Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (1 Viewer)

It was surreal to listen to Knight call the game. It probably doesn't seem like much, but if you have followed him it actually was a pretty big step towards reconnecting with the university.
Have been a huge Knight fan since I was a kid. I think he usually provides great analysis, but I thought he was just OK calling this game. Still, a couple nice moments. The Hoosiers sucked for too big a chunk of that game, but Hulls and Oladipo were strong. Remy Abell continues to be a really good player off the bench.
Tell you what, though, I'll take "just OK" from BK over Dookie V's manic shtick ANY ####ing time. That was painful.
:goodposting: I like Bobby Knight calling games. Can't stand Vitale.
Same here, I cringe every time I see Vitale is going to cover a game. I did appreciate him calling out Calipari on national TV last night for dodging Indiana on the schedule.

Nobody watching UM v Pitt? Good game so far.
:goodposting: Dumd question: is the Glen Robinson III on UM the Big Dog's kid?
He is. Once he fully realizes he is the best athlete on the court at almost all times, UM is going to be really good.
And they also have Hardaway's son. Who else is on the roster- Calbert Chaney, Jr? Rumeal Robinson VI?In any case, they're pretty damned good now to my eyes. That #11 (big white dude with crew cut) needs to play with more control though - he commits to a move way too early and gets himself caught. How good is the kid who transferred from Michigan to Maryland?

11 is a freshman from Canada. He looks better than expected IMO. As for Smotrycz, he is ok. He is Dirk Novitwski extra extra light.

I think I was mixing up #11 with #4. They all look alike. So, you think Smotrycz will probably be more of a role player? That's ok, as Maryland has scorers already and more coming. May as well post it here, too, since this will be my hoops thread in a year or two (Thropa willing). Terps signed two guys for next year:6'4" Roddy Peters - electrifying slasher-type6'9" DeMonte Dodd - he's playing prep school (oops - "post-graduate") ball right around the corner from my house (literally 1/4 mile). Raw offensively, but blocks 10 shots for breakfast. I'm actually going to watch him play Tuesday.

Smotrycz seems to me to want to be a starter and go to guy. He can score from range, but has a tendency to want to play far from the basket. I thought he had good potential a year ago, but was disappointed.

Hola y gracias.I'm still in shock at MD's move and no doubt will be for the rest of my life. I've been a Terps fan all my days and can remember when Charlie Scott & Robert McAdoo (the original) played at UNC. So, I've always been ACC-centric and it's too late in the game for me to feel the same passion about another league. That being said, the B1G looks to be loaded for at least the next few years and - more importantly - has some great coaches (which will ensure the high level of play). I'll never be able to drum up the same hatred for B1G teams that I have encoded in my DNA for Duke/UNC, but am looking forward to MD competing against some of the best.

Agreed! Looking forward to games with Indiana, Michigan St., and the rest. The B1G will be loaded top to bottom. One positive is now I can root for Duke to get spanked every game without it negatively impacting Maryland's RPI!Apparently, embedding images no longer works, so I'll have to link it...

New B1G logo?

Ok, for the first time, I am annoyed by a Maryland fan. This realignment might just work out. That logo made me want to puke.

Hardaway was a beast today. Just hope there was no concussion.
He passed all tests,no concussion. He is on the plane back home with the team. He looked NBA ready today.
He was looking like a lottery pick today. His game has grown by leaps and bounds over last year when he seemed out of control most of the time. Michigan as a team looked extremely talented and well coached. They may be better than Indiana. This is the best Michigan team ever IMHO.

Just saw the following posted on an IU message board. For background, Majok Majok is a JC transfer at Ball State who played very well against IU last night.

While visiting my nephew at Ball State a few months ago, we ordered a Domino's pizza in the dorm. It was accidentally delivered to Majok's room. After a few phone calls, we ended up getting annoyed and told themto forget about the whole thing. Unfortunately, this was indeed an impermissible benefit on behalf of the player. This ordinarily would not be a problem, but in 1991 while in the army, I dated a girl at Midland (Texas) College, Majok's former college. While there I purchased a Midland wrist band. Therefore, myself, my son, and the next 4Millared generations are considered boosters. Yes I said it, Majok is officially suspended. He must also pay for his terrible acts by giving the school 3 bags of M&Ms, Twizzler's and a 12 pack of RC Cola.
Well played, IMO.ETA - Majok looked damn good last night.

Slow down there, jonny. As good as this team may be, it doesn't have anyone as talented as Chris Webber. And the 89 team won it all. This team has a long way to go to get to those levels.

I can't believe Michigan is #3 in the nation. They are looking good now, but it is clear they have the potential to really be something special if those 3 freshman can develop. They are super talented and so fun to watch. NC State is hanging in there and playing a good game.

Michigan looks really good, better than IU right now. Hopefully the Hoosiers light it up against UNC tonight.

Have not seen OSU play yet this year if they are as good as their ranking the Big 10 is going to be a bloodbath.

Yeah, UM is versatile, athletic, full of good 3 point shooters and nobody can guard Trey Burke.

He is a Columbus kid. Mr Ohio basketball. I don't think OSU recruited him that hard. He wasn't a 5 star guy.

It maybe early, but Indiana, Duke, and Michigan look to be locks for #1 seeds. The OSU vs. Duke game will give an indication if OSU belongs in that group.

Minnesota Golden Gophers with a dominating 77-68 road win at Florida St. It wasn't as close as the score indicates.

There's going to be some tough battles in the Big 10 this year and the Gophers will be strong at home and will beat some of the top echelon.

Big 10 up 2-1.

Way too early for 3 #1 seeds let alone 1. I'd say anyone in the top 10 at the moment could be a #1 seed. Don't see 3 B1G teams getting 1 seeds b/c they'll beat each other up. Also have MSU and Illinois who will probably upset a few games. I agree the OSU/Duke game could be huge for the #1 seed when all is said and done. If I had to say now, I'd say 1 #1 will come from the B1G, 1 will come from the SEC, 1 from the BE and the last one will be between Kansas, Duke, and the other B1G team.

Big 10 up 3-2 and will finish 4-2. Don't see 4 wins for the ACC tomorrow night. Their best bet was going 3-3 each night.

The 76-77 teams were very good too. Michigan historically has had a ton of talent and the current team does not have a Glen Rice or Chris Webber on the team. But this team is loaded and what it has over all those previous teams is they are a well coached team and Burke may be the best real point guard in the country. I would be shocked if Indiana, Michigan and Duke do not end up #1, #2 and #3. Usually polls this early are not all that accurate, but those teams are clearly the best and should remain so. If I was going to pick a 4th number 1 seed, I would go with a bit of a surprise and go Butler. OSU loses tonight to Duke, BTW.

Ohio State at Duke tonight :boxing: :banned: :excited:
Lot of talent on the roster, but I'm not sure the Bucks are ready to play with Duke, yet. The 2, 3, and 5 positions have yet to prove they can put the ball in the hoop on a consistent basis. After watching scrimmage after scrimmage, rotation after rotation, I'm interested to see how Matta distributes the minutes tonight. I think this team has a lot of potential on the defensive end, but part of that potential is tied into Amir Williams being able to stay out of foul trouble. Lot of length on the perimeter and we all know Craft is a pest.

Jon, take a deep breath buddy. I like your enthusiasm, but we're not even out of November yet.
:goodposting: Around this time last year, Michigan State looked like a bubble team. They ended up a No. 1 seed.Around this time two years ago, Michigan State looked like a potential title contender. They ended up a bubble team.Long, long, long, long, long way to go.

Some years it is not clear who the best teams are until the end of the season. Other years there are dominant teams that are clearly head and shoulders above others. Indiana is not dropping out of the top 3, period. Best player in the country. Outstanding Freshman point guard. Several of the best three-point shooters in the country. Well coached. Deep bench which is going to get even deeper soon. Oh, and I have not even gotten to Oladipo yet, who is one of the most-improved freakishly athletic players in the country. Michigan and Duke are a small step behind, but still better than anyone else. It may be early, but I am confident come March, not much will have changed on the top of the food chain this year.
