Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (1 Viewer)

Iowa looked great today against Michigan. I wasn't expecting that at all. I thought for sure it would be a close game. Iowa shut down Stauskas.

Marble was lights out.

I have been really impressed with the play of Olaseni the past few weeks. He has come a long way since his freshman year. I'm not so sure he shouldn't be starting.

Yep, 2 road games this week that UM looked awful. Iowa just controlled the game from beginning to end. That was a big win for them.

Sparty at Bucky today. :pickle:

If Bucky can't figure things out on the defensive side (who would've thunk it) this shouldn't be close. It seems they're starting to break out of this cold shooting streak so they have a punchers chance.

Winnable game got away from us today. Easily winnable with a healthy squad. Ah well, hopefully Keith comes back 100% soon. Sounds like he's out for up to 2 more weeks.

Interesting time frame since the game at Michigan is 2 weeks away. That's a huge game on many levels. It would be really hard to win that without Appling.

Upcoming schedule is friendly at least so they can survive without him for a little bit.

Yep, the scuttlebutt is he's back for the UM game. Agree, he isn't need for the next couple, so get him rested.

Really missed Dawson in a game like that with Wisconsin. Valentine really annoys me as he tries to take over in spurts and makes some bonehead plays. Harris has been cold lately but seeing Payne start and get big minutes was nice. Endurance will come. I like Ellis a lot he needs more minutes.

neb nw home and illini on road right? Yep makes sense to rest him for 2 full weeks, would have been great to win today without him

Yeah, Ellis is making a pretty strong case that he should be above Valentine on the depth chart. I envisioned Denzel being more of a high basketball IQ guy and lately he's been the exact opposite.

Yeah, Ted needs to hang up his whistle.

well played

No, you just need one.
Stauskas? I can understand thinking he is overrated, but he is still being projected as a top 15 pick.
Wiggins, Parker, smart, randle, McDermott, Payne, Harris, marble, Mcadoo, yogi, James young, vonleh, shabazz Napier, spencer dinwiddie, decker, cj fair, Aaron gordon.

That is 17 off the top of my head. Stauskas is Europe bound as is craft, Ross, Williams, and gr3.

Msu is the only team in the big that has a legitimate chance of doing anything in the tourney.
Not sure. Think there are other teams that can go deep depending on matchups. Not sure they can win it though. But agree MSU is the best bet this year.

Why is that?
Because the rest of the teams are average at best.
So Michigan is the around the 32nd best team in the tourney this year? I'm not sure I but that. They have had some bad games, but I can't name 30 some teams that are better.
much like last year, it will all depend on the matchups. We got lucky vs Kansas last year, who was a terrible matchup. Not expecting lightning to strike twice. I.e. Syracuse would be a nightmare, but there was a reason we were with Arizona until the final horn.

Yogi, as in Yogi Ferrall? Can't see that guy playing in the NBA.

Definitely not after his sophomore year. Maybe after 4 years, but he is not projected anywhere close to Stauskas.

stauakas will play in the NBA.
Guy can shoot and is fairly athletic. I'd think he'd have a spot on a roster if he doesn't get completely manhandled on D.
If there's a spot in the NBA for Reddick, there's one for Stauskas
Hold on now. I remember Reddick being down right dominate in college. Think he was All-American, player of the year type guy.
You remember him as a deadly shooter is a senior. Stauskas is that shooter as a soph

I like Stauskas but I'd think he be really happy to get to where Reddick was in college and the pros. That's his ceiling.

Stauakas was like leading the nation in 3 point shooting last season going into the big 10 season. Not a guy in the nation I would rather have taking an open three.

Statistically, he is pretty much the best shooter in the country whether it is a set jumper, off the dribble, step-back and he has one of (if not the) best assist to TO ration in the country.

Here is a comparison of JJ as a soph and Stauskas as a soph (per 40mins):

JJ 20 points 4 rebounds and 2 assists, 42% from the field and 39% from 3 / Stauskas 19 4 and 4, 48% from the field and 44% from 3.

JJ isn't the same, he had displayed the ability to create his own shot. Stauskas hasn't, he's frustrated easily. Gotta look past the numbers here.

Again....you guys are remembering JJ as a senior. Stauskas is a sophomore. If you compare them at the same points in their careers, they are virtually identical, though Stauskas is willing to drive for a foul. Until about half way through JJ's Junior year he just stood outside and shot if the screen worked. He couldn't create his own shot at this point in his career either.

I may not be remembering correctly but I don't think that's the case. I like Nick's willingness to drive though. JJ wouldn't do that.

Not a very impressive victory but a victory nonetheless for the Badger. They allowed 28 fewer points in the paint than the game in Minny but I still think they can be attacked inside.

It's going to be tough just to split @Iowa and @Michigan.
