I didn't watch today's game but listened in my office. It sounded like their offense is Newbill.......and Newbill. He was hitting shots early and PSU kept it close at Wisky but it just wasn't enough. They may have some mismatch problems with a mostly useless 7'1" center but no one else over 6'7" (according to radio guys).

That was as bad as Maryland has played all year. Lucky to get out of there with a win, but I'll take it. The disturbing trend of Dez playing poorly in the first half continues from last year, but he sure finished. Layman seemed almost invisible for most of the game, which is worrying. Everything has been great so far. Only complaint is that for Maryland's very first B1G basketball game, we get Vitale for the broadcast? Inside joke at our expense? I mean, three separate times throughout the game, he found occasion to talk about Duke. It's not even the same conference any more!

Edit: Two complaints. I forgot about Damonte Dodd "fouling out" with four fouls. The B1G needs work on its official scorers.

Maybe it's not fair but feel like he doesn't have a clue what's going on when the games get close. It's just luck of the draw who wins even when he has the better players.

Terps looked good again today. Shot well, played good defense, rebounded like crazy. Dodd is so much improved from last year, it's ridiculous.

Apparently, Hollins on Minnesota may not be 100%, which has to hurt. Also doesn't help that the scheduler started them off with two on the road. Still, I imagine they finish above .500 in conference and earn a bid.

 
The jury is still out on Minny. Frosty already quit his blog for the the first time this year. That doesn't usually happen until late January. Not a good sign.

Couldn't even watch, just fast forwarded on DVR after first few minutes because it was so obvious they had no chance.

Wisconsin may shut them out.

 
Didn't catch the game, just saw the score now. Oof. Michigan St. plays some defense, though. 50 for Indiana, 68 for Maryland including two overtimes.

Iowa looks good so far.

 
Terran Petteway is just fun to watch; he has a great sense of timing and anticipation anytime he is near the ball.

If all you saw was the score, I assure you, it was much worse than the final score indicated. That game was over in the first 90 seconds.

We didn't look great at all, Indiana missed a lot of shots. We get absolutely no dribble penetration and we can't hit free throws.I did like the little I saw of Javon Bess. I think he will become more of a valuable contributer as the season rolls on.

 
What's up with Hollins? Is he still going to be less than 100%? I have to imagine they need him to play well to beat Ohio St.

 
So is Russell going to file assault charges against a few Gophers? He was violated most of the 2nd half.

Seriously? I'd be surprised if his neck isn't sprained from all of the massive over reactions to the slightest of contact.

The game was fun. The highlight of the night was meeting Andrew Wiggins and Zach LaVine at a restaraunt in Dinkytown before the game. My 13 year old and his friend got a picture with them. :thumbup:

 
Gophers have dug themselves into a hole at 0-3. At best, I see them being NIT-bound again this year, unfortunately. I was hoping for a step forward from last year, but it's looking like that's not the case. Of course, I have to admit that last year (Pitino's first) was a pleasant surprise, all things considered. It was disappointing to see them miss the Big Dance, but the NIT win somewhat made up for that.

I can't pinpoint exactly what it is, but I'm not terribly excited about this team. Don't get me wrong... last night's game was fun to watch (and gut-wrenching at the same time). But, I just have a sinking feeling that they are going to struggle against the majority of the Big 10, or at least the teams with bigger guards and/or more athletic big guys. The frontcourt of Walker/King/Eliason leaves a lot to be desired, in terms of talent. The effort is there, and I appreciate their enthusiasm, but they're going to be out-matched athletically, more often than not.

I like the guards on this team, but they're small. Mathieu (or as Dan Dakich says, Mathau) makes up for some of that with his amazing speed, but you can only compensate so much. Hollins is gimpy, but he also plays small/slow for a guard. Or, maybe it's just that I've gotten so used to seeing him play with one leg/foot injury or another. He just doesn't seem to have much burst, in terms of jumping OR going by guys. He's become a spot-up shooter, basically, and that's about it.

Hoping I'm wrong, but I'm optomistically thinking 8 B10 wins for this team.

Tough one tonight hack. I haven't seen any Purdue this year. They fought hard on the defensive end, getting around screens and in passing lanes. Really disrupted Bucky's O. They could use another threat or two on offense but I didn't see the gloom and doom that you did.

They have looked much better in B10 play. Their defense has to get better and Painter has to find the right combo of lineups to score more points. Would love to see Haas and Hammonds on the together, but I don't think Painter will do it.

 
Ugh. Not a good game for Maryland. First half was OK, even with Layman sitting on the bench for 18 minutes with two fouls. Second half started poorly and never got better. Illinois played great defense all game.

Andre Hollins is really shooting horrible the 1st 3 games of the Big 10.. They need him to score or they will struggle to score this year

 
the badgers did not look good against purdue and the boilermakers are going to be a force if they can figure it out they have a lot of height and a lot of talent that is a good combo now they just need to find the right line up and gell on maryland i think they just got sort of unlukcy because a bunch of guys from ill played way over there heads and had career nights unfortunately that just happens i do not think it says much about maryland as a result and on crean i just do not like the bum if he stayed at marquette maybe i could still like him but now i just hope that bo the badger ryan just wipes the floor with him until the end of time take that to the bank brohans

 
Wake up and IU is beating Buckeyes at home by 9 deep into the first half. Watched last few minutes and they are moving ball well, actually look like they are running sets on offense, and rebounding on defense.

 
Big game for Michigan against the Gophers today. Gophers are in deep #### if they start 0-4, Michigan can actually post a decent 3-1 start to the Big Ten season with a W.

 
No way Michigan wins this game if they can't make their 3s. Luckily the Gophers are turning the ball over enough to keep Michigan around.

If you are talking about end of IU game, that is Crean's strategy when up by a few points. Dribble and pass 5 feet beyond arc until about 7 seconds on the shot clock and throw up a prayer.
