Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (1 Viewer)

In all seriousness, because of the way the NBA rookie contracts are currently structured, it only makes sense for guys like Trimble and Layman to go pro if they are locks to be picked in the first round. First round picks get guaranteed three year contracts, whereas second rounders get nothing guaranteed. I don't know enough about this year's talent pool to say where they might fall.

If Trimble keeps improving, he just might make it to first round status. One thing I think he would need work with at the next level is his passing and ball handling. He gets the ball stripped more than the NBA would probably like to see, although the talent is obviously there, as we can see from the ankle breaking move to close the first half last night.

Some mock drafts should start coming out soon, and while they likely won't include Melo or Sunshine, we might be able to figure out where they would slot in.

Twerps have Indiana next. I haven't seen them yet. What should Terps fans look for out of the Hoosiers?
Hoosiers can shoot the three a bit and have some good players but are totally inconsistent and have no big men. They can play really well but so far have only done it in short spurts. I'd think they'd be underdogs on the road to most decent teams.

Here's one list of prospects for the NBA draft. Layman is 32, Trimble is 47.

Other B1G players in the top 50 include: Sam Dekker at 20, Caris LeVert at 23, Troy Williams at 28, Kaminsky at 30, Terran Petteway at 34, plus Aaron White just outside at 51.

Some other boards:

I doubt Melo or Layman go. Neither player has elite size or athleticism nor a consistent enough stroke. Another year to get bigger and stronger will help them both improve their draft stock a lot.

Everything has gone wrong this year. Ugh. Oh well.

I wonder what he will do now - go pro or come back?

Tough call, this definitely increases the chances he comes back. I think he has a lot to prove still but that usually doesn't stop these guys from declaring.@draftexpress just said he will be healthy in time for predraft workouts and is a lock for the first round. He said it is a weak year for guards and Levert is easily one of the best and most versatile. So, I assume he is gone.

All gas, no brakes.

I think Maryland was in Bloomington 5-6 years ago for the conference challenge game during Crean's rebuilding years. So you probably already have a sense for this, but Bloomington, IN is an incredibly tough road venue.

Never thought I would say this....but time for Painter to go. He's got no clue with this team.
I agree with this.
Take Crean with him. Sick of this guy.
Tom has 6-18 months 6 months left in Bloomington.
I've been wrong before. Shocked by the recent turnaround, and I think Crean has this team setup for a tourney bid. That alone will buy him another season.

You missed someone at 8.

Sure did. Russell is on the top 10 in both lists.

Here's an article on Layman and the draft: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2332089-predicting-the-biggest-steals-of-the-2015-nba-draft-class/page/4

Who knows with these things, though. It changes plenty throughout February, March, and April.

Considering this team was going nowhere anyways, perhaps this will force someone to step up. This has been the most disappointing Michigan team under Beilein.

Obviously Beilein's long term plan didn't account for so many guys leaving the last 2 years.

Damn . . . Michigan had no business winning that game tonight.

Dawkins looks like he's going to be pretty good.
Michigan will probably lose 4 of the next 5. 5-2 start in the B10 looks good, but wins are going to be a lot tougher to come by. Michigan only shot 35%, it is a miracle you can shoot that badly on the road and win.

Tomorrow is a trial by fire for Maryland. I'm not speculating; I'm sure.

I'm local and I know when Bloomington is ready to get weird about a game, and this is one of those occasions.

That being said, I still expect Maryland to win. They can attack from basically every position on the floor, and I just don't think Indiana matches up well against that.

I'm looking forward to it either way, and I hope Indiana catches a little bit of fire from outside to put fuel on the flames that the crowd will be burning.

Maryland's bigs aren't much of a scoring threat these days. The combo of Dodd/Cez/Graham struggle to get double digits as a group most games. Smoltczyfkhdsa is a nominal big, but he mostly hangs outside.

Maryland's perimeter, on the other hand, is as good and deep as most any in the nation. Layman is a matchup nightmare when he comes to play. Trimble everyone knows about. Dez Wells still isn't right after missing all of that time, but he's a tough nut for a defender. Pack & Nickens are the keys, IMO. If one or both of them are on, it makes MD very hard to defend the whole game.

I know next to nothing about Indiana this year, but they seem to be built the same way as MD at a glance.

I have watched almost every Hoosier game this year and have zero confidence in them. They have some good, streaky players. Have not seen one second of Maryland this year so looking forward to it.

Terps can be really sloppy, but they get after it on D most times and they hustle. This is the closest to a classic Gary Williams team since he left. Difference being that, since Juan Dixon ain't walking through that door, a freshman is their go-to guy.

Sounds like it should be fun game to watch.

Since you were saying you don't know much about the Hoosiers here's names to watch: Yogi Ferrell, James Blackmon, and Troy Williams. Troy Williams in particular has been doing some crazy things lately, super athletic. Ferrell is most experienced player and probably most consistent, usually good for a big shot at some point in game when momentum is going wrong direction. Blackmon has really smooth shot and game in general. Best shooter and probably best player on the team but he is just a Freshman.

If they are getting points from Robert Johnson, another Freshman, things are going well for them.

Looking forward to it.

Hope it's fun (no way in hell I'll be able to stay up and watch it).

I don't think I've ever seen a program go through what Maryland did this past off-season and still end up pretty good. 87 dudes transfered (haven't heard a peep about any of 'em since). I'm still not sold on Turgeon as a game-coach, but he's getting better. Not Gary-Good (who was as good an in-game coach as I've seen outside of Knight), mind you, but better.

In case you were curious (I was)...

Cleare, Peters, Allen, and Faust all appear to be sitting out a year after transferring. Mitchell is the only one playing this year. He's actually doing well, by the stats. Shooting 70% at the line so far this year, which is a surprise.

No wonder I haven't heard much about them. They're not playing because they transferred, Uruk, you dumb ### :bag:

Indiana has two players with 10 points, two players with 9 points......and not a point from anyone else. The bench has been non-existant.
