Nice win for the Terps the other night. The first half was absolutely incredible basketball, while there was a significant defensive letdown in the second half. I would have liked to see more than just one possession of the 1-3-1 zone. Sure, UCONN ended up with a three against it on that possession, but allowing a three point shot by a subpar long-range shooter isn't necessarily a bad outcome, regardless of whether he makes it or not.
Stone showed off some serious offensive skills, but the entire front line got in foul trouble early. Admittedly, there were some pretty ticky-tack foul calls, on both ends.
Layman was not good. He seems to have lost confidence in his offense in general, and he got abused on defense in the second half. We may see more of Bender as the season goes on. Alternately, if Brantley continues playing reasonably well and without turnovers, they may go small more often with Layman as a stretch four when the bigs get in foul trouble.
