Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (2 Viewers)

IU/Duke could be ugly. O/U on Indiana turnovers - 23? Too low?
I'll take the over. Hoosiers were only a 9 point underdog last I saw.

This is the kind of game they lose by 15+ easy. In the second half in particular when Duke takes a look at what they did and makes adjustments at halftime while Crean sits and works on his coloring books.
I doubt Indiana will win, but I think they will play better than you are expecting.

Hoping for the best, expect the worst is my mantra with them with Crean at the helm.

He honestly looks surprised at the end of games when they beat a better team.

Completely understand Crean not inspiring confidence. I still think once that buyout drops on July 1st he is gone.

He has a roster though, that should be at least competitive; and his WTF style sometimes plays towards the level of the competition for better or for worse. If the refs let them play loose and fast; it should be an exciting game. If the refs are calling it close, enjoy watching Duke shoot free throws all night.

Hoosiers have scored 2 points in first 7 minutes of second half. Classic Crean halftime adjustments
All kinds of problems and IU has no chance to compete in this game, but nobody is going to win at Duke with technicals like that being called.

Good comeback win tonight at the Bres. This team has something special going on. Loving it.

4 games in a week including 3 in the west coach. Still found a way.

Go GREEN

Comment from an IU fan on another board

We got beat so badly that even my colleagues that went to Duke didn't want to bring up the game. Do you know how poorly you have to play to have Duke alumni not want to act pompous around you?
Oof

That's a pretty funny quote. The Hoosiers are not very good and they should be. I've always been reluctant to bag on a coach, but Crean is awful!

I thought he was a good hire after the Sampson mess, but I'm done.

Somebody PM me if they start playing respectable defense. Until then, I'm going to get back a few wasted hours a week and keep my blood pressure down.

I, too, thought he was a solid hire after Sampson. I wouldn't expect a PM anytime soon.

BIG win for Wisconsin

They still arent that good.
Lose to Western Illinois, beat Syracuse :loco:
And turned it over 20 times.

Didn't watch...so dont know if it was good defense vs poor shooting for Cuse that was the difference.
I watched a good chunk. They played very good defense. Showalter was very good on D again. Turning into another Gasser that way. Happ contributed big last night, but could've been even bigger. 5 travels and missed several bunnies. He's going to be very, very good.

This is a very young team. More growth is coming, and it'll be fun to watch.

I still think a couple of those travel calls weren't actually traveling. Great win for the young Badgers.

Nice predictions. I thought you were dead wrong on the Cuse/Badgers game.

Terps played a complete game against St. Francis, but then again, it was against St. Francis. Cupcake Jake showed up again. Will be interesting to see if he disappears again versus UCONN next week.

Does UCONN have any big guys worth a damn? If so, Jake's line will we something like 5-1-1 with 4 turnovers, and then will foul out so he doesn't get a hang nail.

I wish he'd start dating Robert Carter, who is a damned beast

Speaking of beasts, this guy is good:

I'll be interested to see what Stone can do against him. Stone doesn't play much defense, but he has elite big-man offensive skills.

Yikes.Stone, Cek, and Dodd will all foul out

They're not good

Like I said a few weeks ago they are going have some problems this year. Poop against directional Illinois and UWM (who could win the Horizon.....but still), yet looked pretty good against Syracuse and Temple. I wouldn't be surprised to see them lose to your Warriors either. Or they could win by 15. There's no telling what you're going to get night to night with them.

Quality minutes from a lot of the guys at the end of the bench (went 14 players deep).

Saturday going to be epic, with the 2000 Nat'l Championship team being honored and going against FLA

This Terp team will only get better and better as they learn to play with each other and DS figures things out.

In my prior optimism ITT, I was really counting on Layman to come into his own this year. He's pretty much sucked so far so unless he steps it up (doubtful) or someone else takes his place, I think this team's upside is limited. Sweet Sixteen/Elite Eight may be the best they do. The Terps simply can't rely every single game on Melo.

I'm not sure that they're not good. There's talent here. Happ has a lot of potential in the post. The problem is, Bo's never had this many Freshman playing. You're going to see this all year. Head scratching losses. Surprising wins. Really tough to say where they end up.

Vito Brown is a dumpster fire. Just venting.

Nice win for the Terps the other night. The first half was absolutely incredible basketball, while there was a significant defensive letdown in the second half. I would have liked to see more than just one possession of the 1-3-1 zone. Sure, UCONN ended up with a three against it on that possession, but allowing a three point shot by a subpar long-range shooter isn't necessarily a bad outcome, regardless of whether he makes it or not.

Stone showed off some serious offensive skills, but the entire front line got in foul trouble early. Admittedly, there were some pretty ticky-tack foul calls, on both ends.

Layman was not good. He seems to have lost confidence in his offense in general, and he got abused on defense in the second half. We may see more of Bender as the season goes on. Alternately, if Brantley continues playing reasonably well and without turnovers, they may go small more often with Layman as a stretch four when the bigs get in foul trouble.

Layman goes into a shell whenever he's up against even a moderately talented and/or agressive player. He'll feast on little white guys from Anne Arundel Community College, but I have to believe that the word is out on him now: "put a body on him early and he wilts". It's happened too many times now.

I didn't see the game, but a friend said the first half was as well as he's seen the Terps play since Turgeon got there.

He needs to be on the back side of the rotation behind Charlie and Kahill. I have never seen anything from him.

I also don't like the badgers end of game strategy. They never drive to the basket but always a step back jumper. Usually from just inside the arch.

He may have been the Badger's best player Saturday against Marquette. Faint praise unfortunately. This is - BY FAR - the worst set of guards Bucky has had since Bo has been here.

The local sports show I'm listening to just had some national college hoops expert on and when asked who he thought was the best team in the country he said Purdue. Can't wait until the Terps smack them around on February 6th at College Park.
Looking forward to State smacking them down on Feb 9th.
Come and get some guys.

In all seriousness, it will a lot more believable if they can take out Butler this weekend. We'll see if it holds up.

Bo Ryan announcing his retirement on BTN right now.
Great coach.
Interesting take -

Dylan Burkhardt @umhoops

Gut reaction: This was the only way that Bo Ryan could buy Greg Gard at least a shot as interim head coach. Loyal guy.
This is spot on. Sad day in Badgerland but you could tell something was off with Bo this season. He seems to have aged quite a bit this season and I don't think he just has the energy to go through a rebuild mode. Thanks for the memories Bo.

He took the program to heights I never imagined in my wildest dreams.
