I don't think that's way too high at all.  Assuming Nigel comes back they'll have their entire team back (Sorry Jordan Smith) plus they'll add Van Vliet (who adds some much needed size and can shoot) and Pritzl (who will likely be their best 3 point shooter, maybe 2nd best after Koenig).  With even some modest improvement from some of their young players this is going to be an excellent team next year.

I didn't say they wouldn't be good. Quite the contrary....and I mentioned just about everything you did. We're splitting hairs here but I was thinking more in the 15-20 range. I should have said "probably a bit too high" instead of "way too high". My bad.

It makes sense for Hayes to test the waters. It can't hurt him. And maybe hearing from the next level that he needs to improve his shot, finish better at the rim etc will light a fire under him.

Also his girlfriend was Michigan's Miss Basketball and is going to play at UofM, so coming to State would keep him closer.

I'm hopeful he was leaning MSU all along and just needed a scholarship to open up.

 
Diamond Stone hired an agent, so he's gone.  No surprise there, though.  Trimble has said he won't hire an agent, so he has until May 25 to decide one way or the other.

Not so lucky and we lose DD as well.  Well we have three spots open now, maybe Izzo can lure a bigman transfer in because were going to need more than Gavin Schilling at the 4-5.

On the positive side, these four freshman coming in look like the real deal.

Lots of buzz around Madison on D'Mitrik Trice right now. Looks like Gard and Lamont Paris flew down to Florida and are big time on him. They need another guard in the mix. It would be nice to steal a guy that's a bit under the radar due to a previous injury. He'd be a great fit at Wisconsin.

Also interesting is that a lot of local media is talking about the fact that Gard is trying level out the scholarship situation. Meaning, he'd rather have smaller classes as opposed the large Freshman class last year. My bet is he lets a scholarship roll over to the next season. If that is the case, I'd like to see the one guy they sign be Trice.

Well they landed Trice a few weeks ago along with his IMG teammate Aleem Ford.

Saw this tweet today that was interesting: @GoodmanESPN Two guys nearly every NBA guy I have spoken to here at the Combine agree need to go back to school: Melo Trimble and Nigel Hayes.

Might look a whole lot different if Trimble really does come back.  There was a great video out yesterday where Layman swatted a Trimble layup into the seats.

If Trimble ends up returning, Terps may play a lot of small ball.  Seems to work for Villanova...

 
According to sources close to Roosevelt Barnes, Caleb Swanigan would rather play in the D-league than another season at Purdue.

As reported by Dan Dakich on his radio show today.

Trimble comes back, and the Terps just landed Justin Jackson.  The frontcourt still looks a bit weak, but all of a sudden, there are a ton of guards and wings.  I imagine the Terps will switch to small-ball at least part of the time.

No real change here, although there are rumors of Jackson starting as a stretch four, in the mold of Layman's first three years.  I imagine that would mean Nickens or Huerter starting at the three.  Regardless, I'm almost as excited for this team as last year's.

Nickens or Huerter at the 3 is probably the best lineup they can field, given the unknowns and assuming Wiley is healed up.

 
Surprised Maryland is getting no respect in the preseason polls.   Michigan State, Wisconsin and Indiana are expected to fight for the top and for some reason Purdue is expected to be in contention.  I see this being Indiana's year although I don't doubt Crean's ability to screw up the big games.   Hopefully Michigan is good enough for a decent seed.

I think MD's lack of hype is due to the fact that they lost 4 starters: Diamond Stone, Little Game Jake, Suliamon, and Robert Carter. Layman & Suliamon were out of eligibility, Stone was always a one-and-done, and Carter was an idiot for leaving but he basically quit on the team half-way through last season so good riddance. 

They have talent across all positions, though the 5 is a big ??? as far as scoring points. That's gonna have to come from Cek unless Dodd has been given a miracle drug for offensive acumen. Both are imposing defensive players, though.

I know you guys were probably tired of me talking about it last season, but losing Wiley to injury really ####ed up their rotation. It made Nickens - who can't dribble around ME - have to handle the ball way too much, which in turn screwed with his shooting game. Trimble ran out of gas due to overwork and overhype. I'm hoping that last year's "OMG, I'm not a top draft pick" moment for him spins positive (all accounts say it has) instead of turning into a negative sulking.

The B1G is really good and I don't expect MD to contend for the conference title, but I do think they're good enough to play in the upper half and get a NCAA bid.

Keep an eye on Andy Van Vliet.  If that kid is as good as the hype (here in Madison) Wisky is going to be tough to beat.

 
Hoosiers point guard situation may be a little shaky but they have a lot of talent. Looking forward to seeing how OG looks and all the new kids. Stuff I'm reading has them at the top of the conference in preseason rankings. Crean is what he is - weird. but a good recruiter. He has Big Ten Titles but still seems to screw stuff up in big occasions. Hard to really love the guy but puts a good team out on the court.

Love that they are playing Kansas to open, totally expect them to get smoked but they'll get a nice taste of playing a great team and seeing what that's all about. Rather that than play 12 junior college games in a row.

Adding Pritzl and Van Vilet to an already deep team bodes well for Wisconsin. The key will be how they assimilate into the offense. Let's not forget Pritzl was a four star recruit, and saw time on the court before re-injuring his foot as a Freshman. He'll provide a much needed outside threat to compliment Bronson Koenig. Should be a fun season.

I thought Purdue was losing some of their bigs.  Looks like the crew is back.  Yeah, I can see how that will be a huge challenge.   It could be interesting how Allbright meshes with them.

Spike does not really fit into Beilein's style.  He is a hard-nosed hustler who does not make a lot of mistakes.  He has been valuable to Michigan and he had a brilliant game in the national finals, but I really think he fits better with Painter's coaching.  It was a good move for Spike and I wish him the best.

They lost Hammons but have Swanigan and Haas back.   Edwards has the chance to be first team all BT.

Going to be an interesting year to watch without Yogi out there at PG, but I'm hearing good things already about Devonte Green.  And yeah, OG's gonna be fun if he takes The Leap, as Simmons used to say.

 
Maryland played an exhibition and rolled with a starting lineup of Cowan, Trimble, Nickens, Gill, Dodd.  Interesting that Wiley wasn't there.

 
Maryland just got a commitment from a 4 star guard from a local basketball power.  This is significant in 3 ways, first the kid's a really good player, 2nd he has a junior teammate who's a five star big who's a heavy Maryland lean.  And lastly, if Maryland can get and maintain a constant stream of local talent headed to College Park, they'll be set from a recruiting perspective.

That's been a challenge for the Terps for over 30 years - ever since Ernie Graham. In fact, it was the main reason they hired Bob Wade after Lefty. Gary tried, but he wouldn't play the AAU game so his success was spotty with local talent (partly due to his rather difficult nature). Turgeon and his staff are much more "modern" and I think are doing a really good job. I'm still not sure how good a coach Turgeon is, but he can find talent.

I think Kansas has the edge tonight with their guard play.  I know most consider Thomas Bryant the biggest matchup challenge, but if the rumors about OG Anunoby extending his shooting range are true; watch out. 

Blackmon's return is a true wildcard, he was a liability defensively last year. 

 
Started reading this thread and couldn't for the life of me understand why people were talking about Maryland. That one's gonna take awhile
