Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (3 Viewers)

I didnt think it went it till i saw the replay
For those that didn't see it, It was a beautiful shot. He got squared up and had a clear look. It wasn't like one of those overhand, baseball shots that sometimes go in - he shot a two-hander from his abdomen.

They win the B1G tourney, they are a solid 7 seed.  Dont think they make a 6.

Michigan and Minnesota have been the two hottest teams in the B1G for a month now. Hope State pulls out a win here in the next game...

I really don't think this hurts Purdue too much. They'll probably be a 4, which can suck because they're gonna have to go through a 1. But I don't see much difference between the 1s and 2s anyway.

That was a great game.  When Wilson plays like that, they're really good.  Michigan shoots 24% from 3 and win......would never predict that.

Me too. Would love to see another M/MSU game. Always fun.

They look about as legit as Gene Keady's hair
That was a legit combover imo. Unpretentious, real. When he threw his jacket to the ground in anger, typically mid-second half, sometimes it would flop back to the source-side and he'd have to angrily place it back over the dome.

In fairness, I think MI is playing pretty well right now. They've won 8 of 10, with their two losses being at NW and at MN. They're on a bit of a roll.
Fair point.  I have absolutely no idea what to make of the Big Ten teams in my bracket.  Their non-conf record in Nov-Dec seems pretty meaningless now and it's hard to gauge overall quality when teams are beating each other up twice a week.

The conference is hurt by not having one or two really good teams.   They're kind of the opposite off the Pac 12 which has three kings and the rest pawns this year.

Yeah, they're gonna be tough to ride more than 2 games. I still think Purdue has a FF makeup, but I'm usually wrong. Teams like MSU, Michigan, Maryland, Minnesota, and Wisconsin are all wild cards.

The bubble ain't the only weak spot this year - so is the top and the middle.

The big problem with Purdue is the same as it's always been under Painter...their clutch and grab #### on defense gets called at some point in the tourney and they go in a spiral.

All the bracketologists declared MSU in after yesterday's win, but I look at their resume and I don't see it. 19-13, no signature win, a terrible loss to Northeastern, and a bad road-neutral record. Their whole case kinda rests on having a winning record in the Big Ten, but this is not a great year for the conference.

I'd feel a lot better if they pulled out this Minnesota game.

I think part of it, though, is that there aren't that many good teams on the bubble. And a bunch of them lost. So someone has to get in.

Yeah that may be. I'll probably read more about bad bubble teams than I wanted to this weekend. Would be nice to be safely in but if they have to rely on the suckiness of others I'll take it.

He said he's no longer sold on Turgeon, not that he's "done with him".  A little different, and about how I feel as well.  I'm not convinced Turgeon can take the program where it needs to be.  I'm not certain he can't, either, but I'm skeptical that he can.  There are a lot of red flags.

The first three years weren't terribly good, missing the tournament all three years.  The next three (including this year), the teams have regressed during the season (annual February swoon).  Few of his players have improved year to year.  Turnovers and rebounding have been consistent problems year after year.  Frequent 6+ minute scoring droughts (often multiple times per game) have been a problem year after year.  Last year's team saw RCJ leave early despite zero chance he would be drafted, and prior to that, a large number of transfers out.

And all of that is before considering his stubborn refusal to even attempt any defense other than straight man, even when man is clearly not working.
*bump*

That was horrid.  Northwestern shot lights out, and rebounded 40% of their own misses.  Maryland had a 5+ minute drought in each half where they got outscored by 16+ each time.  This with home crowd advantage, fresh legs, and against a team that played 24 hours prior.

I suspect Maryland now ends up in the dreaded 8/9 game.  Frankly, I'd rather be a 10-seed.

They did this several years ago. After years and years of both Lefty & Gary railing about the conference tournament being held in NC, the ACCT finally got put in DC and Maryland flamed out against a bad Clemson team in their first game.

I didn't see tonight's game, but it doesn't sound like it was pretty. Good for NW, though. As much as I couldn't stand that little punk Collins when he played, he's done a fine job at a school with zero history.

At least my heart rate will hover somewhere around normal for the rest of the weekend.

Illinois fires John Groce.

Illinois reportedly willing to make Monty Williams one of the highest paid in NCAA per Adrian Wojnarowski but he's going to pass to stick in NBA.

Michigan should be a 7th now and working on being a 6th.   If you just looked at the last two months, they are a top 20 team.

I heard the Williams rumor, but also read that he wasn't interested. He's got a pretty good gig right now.

What about the dude from Ill State?

Has anyone been onsite for any rounds of this conference tournament?  I am curious what the turnout has been like; it doesn't look good on TV.

The location sucks.  If this was in Indy, I would be there.
It kinda seems that way so far, and I agree Indianapolis is a great site for any sporting event.  I was hoping maybe the in person experience was a lot better than it all has looked from start to finish on TV so far.

Yeah, DC this year and NYC next year. I get why they're doing it but a lot of fans just don't want to travel that far, especially if they plan on travelling next week.

Either way, this is shaping up to be a helluva championship game. Michigan seemly can't miss and Bucky counter punching.
