Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (1 Viewer)

I'm truly sick of the idiot Maryland fans spewing the "Maryland will be better off without Trimble" garbage.  Regardless of whether he'll be an NBA player, he's a very good college player, and he makes any team better.  I wish him the best.

On an unrelated note, Micah Thomas will be transferring.  From what I've heard, he was really good in practice this year.  Maryland may regret losing him.

Agreed. Without him, their last 3 years would have been just like the previous 3. He was a great player for them. He could have broken the Terps scoring record if he had come back.

My point about Trimble - which I think you agree with - is that it's probably better for HIM to leave now. It's gotta be hard to be told you're great at 18 and then you get no greater.

As UH said, you can see the world, play basketball and make pretty good money in a lot of places. Obviously he may not be set for life, but there are a lot worse ways to spend your 20s and early 30s than playing basketball all over Europe and Asia.

I think it's interesting to compare him with Steve Blake, who I would never in a million years have thought would have the NBA career he did.

I guess we'll see, but his announcement started with "I am confident and excited to pursue an opportunity to play in the NBA".

Blake's career was definitely a surprise, but at least he was an elite passer/true point guard. Melo isn't elite at anything IMO (in NBA terms).

Like I said, I don't blame him, and I agree there are worse things to do than play overseas, if that's what he wants to do. Just commenting on his NBA prospects.

That's why I was saying it was interesting to me to compare the two.

Trimble - to me - was the better college player. He could put a lesser team on his back and win a game.

Blake had to have guys better than him to be good in college (&, of course, the NBA)

I agree Trimble was the better (overall) college player, but it's a different game in the NBA. His doesn't translate nearly as well IMO.

That's really what a PG is supposed to do- run the offense and make the players around you better. If you do it well enough, you can carve out a career (ala Blake).

I'm struggling to come up with any path to an NBA career for Trimble, he's going to be over matched in just about every aspect of the game.

 
A NBA team will never ask as much of Trimble as the Terps did.  The question is whether any aspect of his game is good enough to carve out a role.  He seems like the kind of guy who'll have to spend a few years in the D-League or overseas working on his shot if he wants to have a NBA career longer than ten days.

 
Jaylen Brantley transferring from Maryland.  I wouldn't be surprised to see Nickens or Wiley transfer out as well.  Turgeon will need to add one more real contributor, if not two or three.

G:  Cowan, Huerter, Wiley, Nickens, Morsell
F:  Jackson, Tumaic, Fernando
C:  Cekovsky, Bender

I'm honestly surprised Nickens isn't gone already.

 
Miles Bridges to announce decision at 6 p.m. today. Buzz is he'll be returning to MSU - he cancelled meetings with NBA agents and is holding the press conference at the Sparty statue.

If that is the case, MSU will be very, very good next season.

Can't wait. They are so loaded next year.  Wonder if this will nix us getting Bowen. If so, maybe we still get McCoy.

Writing was on the wall here. Trice and Pritzl are going to start next season, and I have to believe that both incoming freshman guards, Kobe King and Brad Davidson, are going to need court time in year 1. Trice played ahead of Hill all season. 

But you are correct, lots of minutes to fill. Starting lineup projection would be Trice, Pritzl, Iverson, Aleem Ford, Happ. Key reserves: King, Davidson, Illikainen, Thomas, Van Vliet, Reuvers.

I'm hearing really good things about Aleem Ford's progress. I have no idea what to make of Van Vliet right now. I expected to see more of him this year, but it never materialized. I think there is a chance Reuvers redshirts, with depth ahead of him like Illikainen, Thomas, and Van Vliet. Hard to say though, because we didn't see much progress from those guys this season.

This is a really good incoming Freshman class, so that is exciting. 

 
McCoy to UNLV - Wow.  Head scratcher for sure.  5 star center can go play for Tom Izzo, Dana Altman, or Sean Miller and decides to go to a UNLV team that was 11-21 and last place in the Mountain West last year.  Sounds very shady.

 
LOL. yea..Wonder which casino his family members will be working at for 100k+ a year.

I'm surprised by the decision. Thought if we couldn't land him, he was a shoo-in for Oregon.

Justin Jackson has declared for the draft, but is not hiring an agent, so he'll be eligible to return.  I've got to assume he intends to return, but just wants to get some free analysis from NBA scouts for next year.

Yeah, and good move for him. He's nowhere near ready for the NBA - hell, he's nowhere near ready for the B1G - but use the system to see where you are.

On another note, congrats & good luck to Juan Dixon for landing the Coppin State HC job. I have no idea if he'll be a good coach or not but, after what that dude has overcome, I'm not putting anything past him.

 
Justin Jackson withdrew from the draft and will return to Maryland.  Terps lineup currently:

PG:  Cowan, Morsell
SG:  Huerter, Wiley
SF:  Jackson, Nickens
PF:  Obi, Fernando, Tumaic
C:   Cekovsky, Bender

The Terps will need more depth in the backcourt, given the struggles of Nickens and Wiley last year.  The frontcourt is a crapshoot, with three new names and health concerns.

 
Big program but it's very late in the off-season to make a coaching change.  I hope some mid-major doesn't end up holding the bag when their coach moves to Columbus.

I said last year the seat got warm and that maybe his last game was this past March.  The initial rumor today was that he was going to coach one more year.  So that's not the case?  Odd timing then.  It was a good run, I like the guy from what I know, but his time was up.  Can't believe he's only 49.

 
Greg McBuckets would be a good hire in Columbus.  He's had a lot of regular season success at Creighton and No. Iowa but has never made a deep tournament run.  Creighton is a big program that's always among the Div I leaders in home attendance but Ohio State would clearly be a step up for McDermott.

 
Gophers quietly accumulating talent also. Daniel Oturu. Jarvis Thomas for 2018 so far. 

But it's going to be an exciting year with #jellyfam.
