Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (1 Viewer)

Big Ten fans can blame Maryland for the poor results as they went 10-5 against B10 schools while in the ACC, then just 2-7 against ACC schools after switching to the Big10.
They're a mole for the ACC

I still don't consider Maryland a real Big Ten school. Nebraska and Rutgers are non-conference games for me. I honestly still struggle to accept Penn State.
Now that's old school. Not necessarily wrong, either.

Pretty cool at the end of the MSU game - on the floor together for State - Steven Izzo (Tom Izzos son), Davis Smith(Steve Smiths son) and Nick Sanders (Barry Sanders son).

Now for some well earned rest. Brutal schedule so far.

Valiant effort by MD v. TN comes up a little short at the end.
They couldn't throw the ball in the ocean. They had good looks; they just couldn't make a shot. The Terps got behind by a million and cut it to two a couple of times. Just couldn't get over the hump. I thought the defense did a very good job against a really good team. MD's press clearly bothered UT. Willard said he wanted to press them all game, but couldn't make enough shots to use it early.

Next up, it's "only" UCLA

This is gonna be a fun league season. Purdue's a top tier team nationally, but there are 5 or 6 others who could win the league. Even the bottom of the league looks spry.

I'm liking what I've seen of Purdue's freshman guards Fletcher Loyer and Braden Smith. Loyer could be really good. Decent size and a nice shot. Smith has been a bit more uneven but the guard play has been way better than I was expecting so far this year. Purdue has less talent this year, but this has been a fun group to watch and may end up being a better "team".

Just looked at Penn State's schedule, 01/08 copy-paste below.

Penn St. scares me. They are going to beat Purdue because of the guard play.
PSU is very underrated this season. Exceptionally-coached, gritty and talented squad. Glad MSU already got the hard-earned win on the road against them and that's the only time they play them this season.

Penn St. scares me.
They should. They are probably going to beat a few tourney teams and may make a run at a bid themselves.

B1G is going to be a blood bath this season. Didn't Nebraska (!!!) already beat somebody good?

Maryland got murderized by UCLA last week. I think they were down by 40 at one point. I don't know if it's lingering bad vibes from the Turgeon years, but it seems like if one player goes cold they all do.

Nice to see Purdue find some answers and get into a groove without Edey. Albeit it was against New Orleans, they showed some different sides of their young talent without the big guy.

B. Smith is going to be so much fun to watch over the next few years.

Imagine being a 52 year old man (and presumed "leader of young men") and unable to control your emotions to the point of having to be restrained by teenagers.

Gross. How this idiot still has a job is beyond me. Go play at the Y or an old man's rec league if you still want to play so bad.

Seriously? This is the incident you are talking about. Something like that happens in every basketball game. Hell, Izzo did something similar last night (when he got a technical). And Fran does it 2-3 times per game.

Should coaches control their temper better? Sure. But to single out Juwan for that? Come on. That's absurd. Big nothing.

Agreed, though. This particular video didn't seem like a big deal.

Juwan gonna Juwan

What did he do?
He yelled at a ref after a series of terrible calls
Eastern Illinois pulled off the biggest college basketball upset by point spread in the modern era Wednesday, knocking off Iowa 92-83 on the road as a 31.5-point underdog, according to Caesars Sportsbook.

...the first underdog of 30 or more points to win outright in the past 30 seasons, according to ESPN Stats & Information research. Before Eastern Illinois' upset of the Hawkeyes, underdogs of 30 or more points were 0-558 over the past 30 seasons.

So you're saying there's a chance?

Has Iowa slipped with their eye-poking defense?

Michigan loses to -21.5 dog Central Michigan

Teams CMU has beat this year:

Eastern Illinois (currently 4-9 out of the Ohio Valley Conference)

Cal State Northridge (currently 3-8 in the Big West)

Purdue Calumet (Division 2)

Alma (Division 3!!!!!!!!!)

Michigan

Indiana has a deep roster this year but man this Xavier game they did the same thing they did last season. Give away momentum. Take the lead, then give it right back. So hard to watch as a fan.
The team they played is pretty good, too, and it was in their gym. Xavier will be ranked this season. That's a helluva win for Indiana and will only look better as the season moves along.
I don't usually quote my own posts (because I usually forget the dumb **** I say out of self-preservation), but Xavier is now ranked and just beat #2 UConn.

Hoosiers may have peaked in that game!

Gotten absolutely pounded by Kansas and Rutgers and lost to Arizona in a not so close game.

I've given up trying to understand this MI team. I mean, they are bad. They got beat at home by Central MI their last game. And now they are blowing the doors off Maryland.

It helps that they are shooting like 80% to open the game but I love this starting lineup for IU: Bates and Hood Schfino at Guard Kopp, TJD, Race at Forward.

Want to see Gunn get some big minutes as well.
