Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (2 Viewers)

I think Illinois -Purdue is also on Peacock...wtf...they ran a 1.99 a month special for a year that I missed and are like 10 bux...three Illinois games are on that...I already paid 10 bux for grade school level coverage on Bigten + for 3 early games to see how PG played out and the new transfers...the time suck and ...annoyance might skip Peacock games...but...Illinois -Purdue...Edey- TSJ...two most possible AA Big players...

Underwood discusses why Podz never left the bench at Illinois for 2021-22

Just absolutely crazy to me. Podz didn't leave the Illinois bench over a year ago but already thriving as a starter in the NBA. And thriving as he already looks and plays like a 10 year vet. I mean really, Trent Frazier and Da’Monte Williams!?!? I'm pretty sure this is the same season Andre Curbelo was hurt/awful as well. (BRUTAL shooting the ball and a turnover machine at point)

Any way you want to spin it, it's not a good look whatsoever for Underwood. Could wind up being his lasting legacy at Illinois. I see it happening all over again playing Coleman/Rodgers over Dra Gibbs Lawhorn. Illinois absolutely needs a PG whether it's DGL or Moretti and not playing some pseudo ones with Coleman/Rodgers as distributors. Really unfortunate Brad seems to be going down this hole again rolling with mediocre flawed upperclassmen over more talented youngs across the board

Podz put in the work to develop. He was unfortunately buried behind some who didn't appreciate their gifts and opportunity. I liked everything about Podz except his exit statements.

And now today a sad day for the Illini and another player who put it on the line on the court. It will be overwhelmingly sad however this turns out...best case scenario proven false quickly , worst case proven true.

The new DA in that district has nearly totally turned over the whole staff, not sure why or if relevant. I wish for truth and justice but since this happened 4 months ago wonder why now just coming to light so speedy justice already out the window.

Very glad Illinois has a U of I alum Lawyer as Athletic director.

From what I’ve read, sounds like up until today he was under investigation, not charged. Today that changed to a formal charge.

Yep, timing seems odd to me, and the backstory of the DA. Not sure of any relevancy of either, just another in a long line of sad days.
No good coming from this as best case is still pretty bad for both parties and worse case horrible and unsettling.

Peacock has 3 Illini games I believe, one in each of three seperate months. Nice marketing strategy if it works, guessing it will for the majority. I could have bought whole year for like 15 bux and didn't. Might protest and not buy, but with the latest problem with our team, will probably buy to support those still fighting while waiting for justice for all.
I have loyalty to the program through blood ties. After taking so many Ro Chambeux' s from the minority, will fight for the majority of exemplary athletes and staff. I...L...L...

I...N....I!

Awful about Shannon. I won't put question to prosecutor motives on timing etc they might just be deliberate and wanted everything nailed down before charging.

Regardless of outcome I would think Shannon's Illini career is done as I doubt any resolution - particularly one in his favor - would occur before the season is over and so he'd either go pro or go to prison.

From a basketball perspective we'll see how the team reacts. This has been the most cohesive Illini team during his tenure so either they pull together now or it all falls apart.

Whitman will have a statement before the FDU game tonight.

Sounds like Dug McDaniel could be academically ineligible this next semester, starting Jan 8. We shall see.

Did he just not go to class or something? How the hell does that happen with all the academic help on campus for these kids?

Wolverines trounced at home from start to finish by McNeese State. If the news about Dug is true, they may just be the one of the worst if not the worst high-major team the rest of the season.

A good first game without Shannon, I am sure all the seniors on the team will help to hold it together. Almost could compare it to the Bulls without Zach Lavine, the entire rest of the team picked it up and played as a team instead of getting stuck in the "give it to Shannon and watch" mode. When he was loose on a fast break was one thing, but seemed like in their half court sets it would often turn to him dribbling and trying too hard. That said we still need a PG who can handle the ball and force a basket when needed. Gibbs-Lawhorn had his good moments, but also had his freshman moments throwing the ball around. Rodgers against the press is not a good thing.

ILL

1 game but Illinois looked impressive as hell last night w/o Shannon against NW. Blew them out of the building by 30. Domask and Guerrier have been huge in stepping up at times this season. Harmon's averaging 19 PPG in the last 2 games Shannon has missed.

I don't think the Illini have any business being ranked top 10 w/o Shannon but looked good nonetheless tonight. Now they get to head to Purdue.... 🤣

ILL | Purdue is going to be a great game.

Purdue looked decent at MD last night with defense leading the way. Got away with poor offensive execution at times.

MSU blowing the doors off PSU here at the Brez tonight at halftime 51-26.

Hoping for more of the same in the 2nd half.

Carr had an insane dunk late in the half. Definitely will be ESPN top highlight tonight.

Seems these guys have found their stride - 92-61

Never in doubt tonight. Fun game again with my daughter at the Brez

Road games upcoming...

Tough loss tonight @ Purdue.

GREAT game plan by Coach Painter putting Edey on Ty Rodgers. He got to just lounge in the paint. Great comeback attempt in the 2nd half by the Illini. Underwood said it postgame and it was obvious that he stuck with Ty too long. Was the difference in the game. Rodgers was a minus 23 in 13 minutes.

JMO You absolutely can't win at a high level with Ty Rodgers at the point. Purdue exploited it. Whether it's putting Harmon on the floor more, giving DGL or Moretti (when able to), they've got to move away from Ty's limitations at the point/shooter.

Domask looking like a 1st team B10 guy. Looking studly recently.

No one is expecting anything from the Illini w/o Shannon. Nothing to lose. They've looked quite good w/o him in 3 games.

Badgers handled a pretty good Nebraska team with ease. Game didn’t feel as close as this 16 point difference. This Badger team is really really good

Not happening in Evanston tonight for MSU. Malik Hall zeros across the board. 0 points, 0 rebounds, 0 assists. Not gonna win many when he has that stat line.
Regroup for Thursday at Champaign.

Loading up on Nebraska +7 at home tonight. They’ve been playing well as of late.

Don’t want to jinx anything here but … pretty fun game going on in Lincoln with five minutes left.

I didn't watch so I don't have any comments, but obviously Purdue didn't play defense.

Road games in the Big Ten are tough. Its probably true of every conference, but I mostly just watch the Big Ten. Nebraska was a completely different team playing in Madison last weekend and in Minnesota a few weeks ago compared to the team I saw last night.

Suspended for away games is about the oddest thing I’ve heard.

Michigan basketball's leading scorer Dug McDaniel suspended indefinitely for road games
Tony Garcia
Detroit Free Press

A Michigan basketball season that's already on the brink may have just been delivered the final blow.

Dug McDaniel, the team's leading scorer and starting point guard, has been suspended for the team's road games "until further notice," according to a statement from Michigan. Though no specific reason was given why, head coach Juwan Howard's statement indicates it is so McDaniel can remain home to focus on his academics.

"We have very high standards within our program, culture and university," Howard said in his statement. "Serving as mentors, we need to set the standards and pathways for our young men to succeed. Beginning with our game at Maryland, Dug McDaniel will not travel to road games until further notice.

"Dug will dress for home games, however, when we are away from Ann Arbor, he will work towards meeting several academic goals he has set and needs to meet."

ILL

Illini survive at home vs Michigan State. Domask was invisible in 1st half. Wound up with decent all around game. Rodgers has no business at PG but best athlete on team without Shannon. Provided a lot energy on both ends (particularly 1st half). Coleman makes some head scratching decisions but he's been terrific since Missouri. His footwork defensively for a guy his size is very very good. I think that's why he's got a shot at a spot on an NBA roster

Michigan State is a lot better/more talented than their record indicates. Hoggard did a great job on Domask

Bucks with an early afternoon tip at Crisler today at 12:30. Gimme the Bucks and the 1.5 and give UM their 6th straight loss.
