Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (1 Viewer)

OOF - this league is just weak right now. Wisconsin rockets all the way to #6 and then loses 3 in a

They never should have went higher that 15ish, that was just dumb.

I feel like they kind of had to get that 6 ranking just because of how the polls work, with other teams losing. Its hilarious to think if WI had held on to a 20 point lead in Omaha and beaten Purdue at home, they could have been 1 or 2 in the nation. They're probably a legit top 25 team but in the 20-25 range and likely a 4 or 5 seed in March.

Awesome win and incredibly fun time at the Brez this afternoon watching the Spartans beat a top 10 Illinois squad. Quite the turnaround from the fiasco at Minnesota the other night.

Go Green

Bad meltdown for Illini. Michigan State has much more upside.

Illinois really needs a good win. Their resume is really pretty blah for being ranked a top 10 team. Their biggest win this year is at home to #20 FAU. Believe that's their lone win vs a ranked team.

Outside of Purdue, the big ten isn't impressive in the least. Id take a shot on Michigan State over the others to advance the farthest in the tournament of the remaining teams.

Holy **** is Michigan bad

Even though his change in demeanor seems to indicate he thinks he's gone, still think it's possible Michigan bring Juwan back.

If he's gone and still wants to coach, I could see a program currently in shambles DePaul being interested in Juwan.

As bad as UM is, they are only 2.5 pt dogs tomorrow versus MSU at home, which I think is a good number TBH. MSU is playing very well right now, but they are always vulnerable for a letdown and A2 is definitely a place it can happen. UM is due for a big win.

As far as Howie, I think the general sentiment as far as State fans and alums go, he's the mental :tfp: that just keeps giving, so we hope he stays for a long time. :lmao:

ILL

Big road win for Illini. Maryland gave them one of their home losses earlier this season.

Illini's defense (or lack thereof) is really troubling given is was considered their strong point coming into year. They can't keep trotting Luke Goode out there. He can't guard anyone.

Maryland had to win that one to have any shot at the NCAAs. They couldn't do anything with Shannon. It was an emotional night in College Park and a gutty win for Illinois.

They stayed at 75 in NET, so at least they didn't drop. Do they have anyone left to play in Q1 to help them?

Wisc/Rutgers/NW/Ind/PSU left, plus the B1G Tournament.

Other than beating Illinois (without Shannon), they have no really good wins. Beating UCLA looked good at the time, but not so much since. Maryland doesn't have any bad losses - most of the teams they've lost to are at least decent - but their whole resume is just "meh". There's nothing to separate them from 30 or 40 other teams in the same boat.

I don't know how NET works, but my guess is that MD has to win out, then at least a game in the B1GT to have a shot.

Buckeyes must have made the right coaching move. They take down Purdue 73-69 in CBus. Whoop!

Northwestern big road win in Bloomington. Indiana with the clubhouse lead for ugliest uniform of the year.

What were those uninform? NU has beat them four straight now.
I’ll have to find a screen capture

ETA: here’s a couple articles about them:

I think Woodsons gone before Juwan. This could be the nail.

Horrible loss for Purdue. I could smell this one coming. Didn't watch the game and not going to watch it on replay, but I can't quite figure out how they lost looking at the box score. They had a few more TOs than OSU and shot 20-20 from the line.

Purdue had double the TOs, but not sure how many points tOSU had off those, also Bucks had 21pts from 3 (7-21) vs. 9 points (3-9) for Purdue, but that advantage was pretty neutralized by Purdue's 10 more FT points. It seems the Bucks scored on quite a few transitional breakaways and layups.

I sensed it also. What happens if they don’t make it out of the first weekend in the field of 68?

What happens is I start caring less and less about Purdue basketball. Winning 25+ games a year is fun until it's not.

They have underwhelmed many times, starting in the late 70’s.

Believe me...I've been a Purdue guy since I can remember. I was 12 when they went to final four in 1980. Keady had limited success and always put 100% emphasis on winning reg BT season.

Painter had a pretty good streak of sweet sixteens before this latest 3 year episode of losing to double digit seeds. Last great run was the Carson Edwards almost single-handedly took them to final four to only fall short to VA on their run to the title.

I watched it. Purdue played well. OSU hit every big shot and got every loose ball. Purdue played a jacked-up, emotional team in-conference and lost. It happens.

Terrible meltdown by the Illini at Penn State. Up 10 with little over 2 to play and lose in regulation.

Defense is just terrible. Gave up 90 points. Hawkins just isn't a big moment player and one of my biggest concerns with this year's team is him and Rodgers at the line

Now that’s a nice response to a bad loss.

This team really needs Heide and Colvin to get more minutes with all of their athleticism.

Loyer is a liability at this point.

Purdue played really well, but Rutgers just folded. They are usually a pretty good defensive team. Omoruyi was a non-factor. Weird game from them.

Heide was great. If he can put it all together he can be scary good. They'll need him next year with Gillis being a senior and Furst regressing.

Love Colvin's hops and he can definitely score, but it just feels like he has work to do whenever he's out there. Doubt he needed to play D at any level before this year and it shows. Can see glimpses of greatness though. Loyer is in a funk, but I think they are better with him out there right now. He does need to start hitting 3's. Painter isn't even giving Colvin many minutes in blow outs, hoping that changes with some of the easier games coming up.

Amazing to see the leap Braden Smith is making this year.
