Bills / Steelers Preseason Week 2 (1 Viewer)

I hate watching our defense every preseason.

They call no more then about two or three zone-blitz plays the entire first half.

We get gashed in a basic 4-3, drop zone set, play after play.

The Bills look unstoppable! Fantastic first two drives for TD's from Edwards to Royal. Freddie Jackson is very elusive, and Marshawn is running WAAAY downhill for big gains! This team is looking quite promising, let's keep our fingers crossed BUFFALO! BTW, you can watch the game live on Channelsurfing.net

A lot of people around here are going to be surprised at how good a season Holmes has this year. They shouldn't be.

Edwards is my pick for best performance by a young QB this season. He's got the makings of an outstanding supporting cast (both skill players & OL). By next year, as the OL gels even more & Hardy has a little experience under his belt, I expect a top-5 season from Edwards.

Really? I'm a HUGE Bills fan and don't ever see him cracking the top 10. Ever.

As a Bills fan, I sure hope you're right! He's looking good as of now. I'm glad he's out though...........11 for 13, 104 yds, 2 TD's......can't complain!

Peters needs to get into camp. I remember talk last year about how lazy he was in camp. I swear he is only holding out so he can avoid the work.

I've never been a big fan of, what do they call them, ebonics??? But Mckelvin can talk however he wants as long as he keeps running back Kick offs for TD's! Yea baby! Lookin' great. He almost took one last week but made one bad cut or he would have gone, as it was it was a 45 yard return, on a punt. This week, he figured out the cut and went all the way on that kickoff, flippin' fast!

Mckelvin = Hester, only possibly better?

Slight overreaction to the preseason? **** Jauron QB top 5? Maybe Edwards had a good game because they wanted him to throw it 11 times in the 1st quarter...how many games is he going to pass 44 times? I doubt he clears 30 a whole lot...how many pass attempts do you see for Trent Edwards? Let's gaze back at his college career...top5 you say?2004: He was a 21 year old Sophomore, played or started in 9 games...274 attempts which is right at 30 per game, 1,732 yds passin or less than 200 a game, and 9 TD thru the air. Edwards doesn't exactly run well either as he totaled up 199 yds and 2 TD over his 4 year college career on the ground...that is NOTHING for a college QB. 2005: 11 games...268 attempts, 1,934 yds passing, 17 TD passing. 2006: 7 games...156 attempts...well under 30 per game, more like 20 attempts a game, 1.027 passing yards, and 6 passing TD. In his 4 years he passed for a total of 5,443 yds spread over 35 games which about 150-175 passing a game, and 36 passing TD or an avg of 1 a game. Now I like a good optimistic story but I think Edwards will never be more than about 200 yds and 1 TD per game at best...if I'm wrong so be it but the college career doesn't lead me to believe he is going to be a stud in the NFL anytime soon. Bills were 30th in attempts, 30th in passing yards, and 29th in TD passes. Top5? Not this year, not next year, maybe not ever with the combo of Jauron/Edwards...it's easily bottom 5 for passing offenses.

I like him as well jurb. I think he's ranked appropriately though...
:)
Jurbie, for the reord, would you please state where you see Holmes ending this season? I mean #3, #5, where? I won't even say anything over the top back at you, but I would really like to know where you have him ranked, because I find the top20 to be about right for him, but there are at least 12-15 WR I would want over him.

I've got him around 14.

My family has Stanford season tickets, so I know a thing or two about Edwards. You're off the mark. His supporting cast in college was about as bad as you could possibly imagine. Stanford is a program on the rise, but they were absolutely pitiful on offense during the Edwards years. Some observers said their OL wouldn't even have been a competitive group at the 1-AA level. He was getting killed every play and getting no help from the scrubs at RB and WR. By the end of his last season he was throwing to walk-ons since all the scholarship WRs were injured. Don't get hung up on what he did in college.Edwards was a top 2 QB recruit nationally in high school. He completed over 70% of his passes in high school. UCLA wanted him so bad that they were still hot on his trail even after Drew Olsen committed. Now Edwards comes into the NFL, dominates in his first preseason, and wins the starting job as a third round rookie. I'm not surprised to see him making some noise. The guy has all the intangibles you look for at the position. He's smart, confident, and mature. He's accurate. He makes good decisions. Obviously it's easier to praise him when he's coming off a strong performance, but I've been saying for some time now that he could be the next Hasselbeck or maybe even the next Brady. People judged him way too harshly last year. If it had been Brady Quinn or JaMarcus Russell who put up the same stats then there would be a lot more optimism. Obviously he doesn't have the draft pedigree of either of those two, but he fits the mold of a Romo/Hasselbeck/Brady type. A good leader and decision maker with an accurate arm. I agree that his redraft upside is limited, but don't sleep on his dynasty prospects.

Could anyone elaborate on FWP/ Mendenhall's roles tonight? Looks like FWP didn't see much action or do very much. I assume FWP started the game & the plan is to let Mendenhall get a lot work.

Any responses appreciated...

this is true...anybody who watched Pac10 ball could see Edwards was a player...and we're not talking Florida/Florida St./Ohio St. type QBs...he's an NFL caliber player. Poise, accuracy, smarts...he'll at least be an average starting QB.

I'm not talking about the site. I don't even subscribe so don't know their rankings. I'm talking about the hoards of people who post and think Holmes isn't even in the same league as guys like Calvin Johnson.

Bills D looked pretty good, even though the Steelers had a decent drive going against them. Schobel with a pressure, then Kelsay comes clean and draws a hold, Stroud stuffs a run play, Poz is everywhere, and then Whitner comes up with the INT on a deflection from Simpson. Love it.

Lynch is going to break out this year in a big way if Edwards can move the offense like this consistently.

Dare I say Mendenhall has looked a little bit sluggish thus far in the NFL. I think he's definitely more of a power back than a game breaker at the pro level.

I noticed that, it seemed he was moving in slow motion. In his defense, the Oline wasnt doing him any favors.

Bills had their 2nd string in the game when Holmes scored. They brought up the SS presnap and then Holmes just blew past Youboty. FS George Wilson was just a step late. Great pass from Ben to drop it in there.

it looks like the fans in Toronto got a much better game than most preseason games. good thing, considering how expensive the tickets were.

 While I don't see Edwards as a stud fantasy QB any time soon, I wouldn't use his college stats to judge him. He was absolutely abused on a number of undermanned Stanford teams. He took a beating every week he played - his stats don't reflect the guts he displayed while in college. He's talented, but I don't see the Bills offense opening up enough to make Edwards a big time QB.

just marking this in hopes for a clash of MOP and LHUCKS where neither one has any clue what they are talking about.

That's not a surprise. Youboty is terrible. Hopefully McKelvin will be ready to at least take over the nickel position fairly early in the season.Hmm, The Democrat is reporting that it was McKelvin that got toasted by Holmes, not Youboty.
