RB Westbrook's Knee Still Somewhat Swollen

Bob Kent PhiladelphiaEagles.com

Philadelphia Eagles HC Andy Reid reported very few new injuries on Monday after his team took control of teh NFC East. But the status of RB Brian Westbrook's sore knee remained a hot topic. Reid said Westbrook came out of Sunday's game with "very little swelling." "There's a chance it [the swelling] stops and there's a chance it continues on," Reid said. I really think it'll be day to day and week by week. We'll see how it goes."

Glad to hear that there was only a little swelling. Reason to be optimistic....."Very little swelling" sounds a lot better than "Somewhat swollen" as the headline states.

There is no way a player with a bone bruise playing a football game will have no swelling at all. This I think is good news.

This type of report on Westbrook is going to be coming every week. He's probably not going to practice much this year either. If you can't stomach this rollercoaster with Westbrook this year, I suggest dealing him.

Myself, I think he's in a "buy from a scared owner" situation. He's shown over his career that he doesn't need to practice to be very productive (due to being nicked up all the time). And the lack of practice might serve to keep him healthy and fresh all year long. Also, McNabb's ability to get the ball to all his weapons lessens the burden and touches required by Westy (see Lewis against the Packers and Baskett yesterday). He's also CLEARLY our go-to weapon in the red zone, whether by run, screen, shuffle pass or other method. Toss in the handful of long TDs he'll get, and he's going to end up as a top 8 RB this year.

That seems to be somewhat in question after yesterday. The one goal line series the Birds had featured Westbrook standing next to Andy Reid with Buckhalter getting the carries. I think Westbrook is the best option and is effective on the goal line, but they might be trying to save him from the wear and tear.

I just want all the Eagles games this year to be at 1 PM :( The 4 PM start killed me this week.-QG
I don't have the scedule in front of me, but I was looking at it last week for this very reason and seem to recall that they have a good stretch of 1:00 games from here on out.

I'm very glad I held on to Westbrook through all the talk of surgery, microfractures, etc (which have proven to be false) up to this point.

With the way the Eagle offense is going right now, if Westbrook can play 13-14 games he should a top 5 RB, minimally.

but at the rate the eagles are going, he won't be playing in the last 4 games because they'll have the division wrapped up ;)
