Bloom County to return (1 Viewer)

Beloved ‘Bloom County’ comic to return in 2015, says creator Berkeley BreathedBill the Cat, Opus the Penguin, shyster lawyer Steve Dallas, Binkley’s Closet of Anxieties and other characters from the beloved Bloom County comic could be returning with the publication of a new series of strips, says the comic’s creator.

According to BuzzFeed, author and illustrator Berkeley Breathed announced on Sunday that he intends to start publishing the comic again after a lengthy hiatus.

In a Facebook post, Breathed showed himself drawing on a touch screen computer. The panel he is inscribing reads “Bloom County 2015″ and shows a faint outline of Opus, a talking penguin and a central character of the strip, which was a staple during the 1980s and 90s.

“A return after 25 years. Feels like going home,” reads the photo’s caption.

One commenter asked Breathed if the return of the strip had anything to do with Donald Trump’s entry into the 2016 presidential race.

“This creator can’t precisely deny that the chap you mention had nothing to do with it,” Breathed replied.

Bloom County originally ran as a daily black and white strip with a Sunday color edition from December 8, 1980, until August 6, 1989. It spawned two spin-off weekly series, Outland and Opus.
Never thought we'd see it.

Oh hell yeah I need to call my friend Steve Dallas in Austin and let him know, he'll be very happy to hear this.

Pretty excited to see this. Though I gotta admit I loved the last image of Opus we saw was him blissfully drifting off to sleep in 'Goodnight Moon'.

Now, if there are those who doubt the worldly significance of the Great Snake massacre, there are also those who know that life's greatest joys are its minor triumphs.

It is to this latter group that we dedicate that day in which the all-volunteer group of fearless snake slaughterers succeeded in beating senseless a battery cable from a '73 Pinto.

Hopefully we see the return of the Basselope

Hopefully the Starchair Interpoop flies again.

"The only change I absolutely know is that there will be no Starchair Enterpoop. Some cultural references need decapitation, like a proper zombie," Breathed said.

Perfect start to the return of Bloom County

Any word on the frequency of the strip? daily? Weekly?

In the article MindCrime posted, BB said that deadlines were something that drove him away from drawing for newspapers, so I think the comics will not be regular in their frequency.

The Daily Texan, Austin. - The Simpsons started out as Life In Hell, by Matt Groening. The Simpsons characters were originally rabbits.
"Eyebeam" by Sam Hurt. Hank the Hallucination won the UT student body president election when I was there. Good times.
"Eyebeam" is the best. I was at UT then, too. The morning dose of comics was great.

I lived in Jester, and I remember the lunch bag scandal like it was yesterday.

At this point, I think newspapers would be open to any and all ideas/compromises that save them. Breathed, Watterson, and Larson could come to an 'understanding' with the papers. Once a month, each of them will submit a comic to be included in their Sunday edition. So, 3 Sundays of each month will have either a Bloom County, Far Side, or Calvin & Hobbs.

This would help newspaper circulation, and you could sell it to the artists by talking about promoting literacy.

All this, and they would only need to come up with one comic per month!
