Bloom's idea: Banking on 2nd String RBs UPDATED (1 Viewer)

Okay. So D. Thomas is out and at this point it might be best for the Dolphins to shut him down for awhile and run R. Bush into the ground. He's an interesting stash, the last two weeks he has looked much more decisive as a runner. Will it continue? Probably not but he's definately worth a pick up if dropped.

and Hillard or Slaton if/when Bush goes down?

Some other names to consider adding to this WW search.....

NYJ Joe McKnight - single game he had more than 10 touches (Week 17 in 2010 vs Buf: 32 car 158 yards & 2 rec 17 yards) little meaning in game, saving Green/LT for playoffs.... just demonstrates he can do it when given a chance.....

Chi Marion Barber - 23 carries 91 yards 3 TD in limited duties behind Forte; Forte wants his $$, they might decide to save him if they drop another 2 games.... currently 4-3, playoffs are possible, MBIII looks better in Chi than in Dallas.... but OL is not suited for up the gut running..... could struggle, but given the opportunity, Barber would have value.

I think Lex is interesting there if he's the last guy standing - could be getting 20+ touches a game, and there's ALWAYS value in a guy getting 20+ touches a game.

Great idea.... some players have started to be revealed to us.... Dallas RB DeMarco Murray could be the top of this list while Carolina RB J Stewart started the season behind DeA Williams. J Stew has clearly been the better RB especially in PPR leagues with his 21 Rec on 22 targerts (compared to DeA Will 8 on 13)

They and the likes of Hunter & Tate are already on rosters in most leagues. They might be trade targets, but not WW pickups for their potential late season contributions....

Currently List UNLikely to be on Rosters:

5) Phil Ronnie Brown - experienced & talented backup; McCoy is versitle but Ronnie is more up the gut RB; could add new dimension to offense
Dion Lewis has passed Ronnie on the depth chart.

Anyone have a scouting report on this Curtis Brinkley guy?

SD - Curtis Brinkley expected to play in Week 8Source: CBSSports.comUpdating a previous item, San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner said RB Curtis Brinkley is expected to play in Week 8 in place of RB Mike Tolbert (hamstring).

good all-around back, but not special in any area of his game. was shot early in his NFL career and worked his way back. SD chose to promote him instead of keeping 6th round pick Jordan Todman. definitely worth mentioning as tolbert and mathews have been banged up a lot and the team clearly didn't want to put hester in the position to get more touches after he did a few weeks ago.

Every single one of these guys is a poor fantasy option. Anyone banking on 2nd string RB's to save their fantasy season is probably doomed.
You're absolutely right.Stashing a guy like Nick Goings, Jerome Harrison, Ryan Grant, Rashad Jennings, Ryan Torain, Peyton Hillis (DEN), Jamaal Charles, BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Jonathan Stewart, Chris Ivory, Fred Jackson (when behind Lynch), Jason Snelling, Steve Slaton, Correll Buckhalter (PHI), Maurice Jones-Drew (once upon a time)...

I'll stop there. Those guys never helpe dout for 1-4 weeks down the stretch to carry teams to titles. Especially not Jerome Harrison

Every year, guys come out of nowhere late in the season and have big roles. It's hard to predict injuries, but I'd rather have a Kendall Hunter on my team than Thomas Jones any day of the week. If Gore goes down, Hunter immediately becomes an RB2.
Does Gore even NEED to go down with an injury for this scenario to play out?The 49ers are 6-1 and sitting atop the NFC West with a massive 4-game lead. They play the sputtering Redskins next week and still have 5 division games ahead with the crappy Cardinals, Rams and Seahawks.None of us directly know Harbaugh's gameplan but is there any way they DON'T bench injury-prone Gore or put him on a restrictive snap count as soon as they lock that division up?They'll need him fully rested & healthy for the playoffs. That screams 15-20+ touches for Hunter throughout the entire fantasy playoff season.Hunter isn't likely to be on waiver wires but he's definitely worth trading for in any league where his current owner has a losing record or is not aware of Hunter's long-term upside value.

i dont think its likely they bench Gore, but they will probably limit his carries during that time giving Hunter around 10 snaps there. just a hunch but Hunter does look explosive and has huge upside long term there.

looked terrific in the Momo/Graham quality backup mold - worth stashing despite concussion with Mathews hurting again. priority pickup this week.

:wall: Which means I should have picked him up Sunday. Doh!

Taiwan Jones belongs on any top 10 sleeper dynasty RB list.
Ka-ching. Agree with this. I also like Anthony Allen late in the season. Go check some of his tape from preseason games.
I also wonder if the Raiders would just increase Bush's role a bit with Taiwan being the mini-DMC in this offense if DMC is going to be gone for a considerable period of time. With Bush being a free agent and possibly commanding a bigger contract next season it would be advantageous for the Raiders to see what they have in Taiwan this year!

You bring back good memories. The only way to win the RB lottery is to play.

Picked up Ringer and started him against the Colts with some success, but I can't start him against just any defense. I've just go the feeling that the Titans won't give serious thought to a time share or even benching CJ b/c it's basically admitting that signing him for mega-bucks was a huge mistake. That being said, there is already a history of CJ being VERY effective when used in a time share - his rookie year when he split with Lendale. He had about 700 yards and 15 TDs, with some great games down the stretch - 100/2 against denver, 99/1 against cleveland - but also had some stinkers - 26 yards against Indy. Ringer has a few enticing matchups, including the Panthers (28), Bucs (22), Saints (23) and Colts against (32). Anyone have thoughts on starting him against a tougher Run defense, like the Bengals this week? (currently ranked #2 against the rush)ETA - just saw this on MFL, not sure that I can agree with the "takeaway":

Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak said he has no plans to even out the carries between RBs Chris Johnson and Javon Ringer. 'There's no rhyme or reason to it right now. If there was, I'd let you know,' Munchak said. 'We're just trying to get something fixed that hasn't been as productive as we'd like, and we're not doing anything different .... We don't feel any different about Chris Johnson. All of the above. Nothing's changing. Our philosophy hasn't changed.' However, Munchak also said he will play whoever gives the team the best chance to win.Analysis: Like John Miller pointed out in 'Under The Numbers' Chris Johnson is getting booed at home every time he touches the football. Sooner or later Ringer is going to take over the majority of touches, probably sooner if Johnson doesn't break one early vs. the Bengals this week.

The best part is that I got a personal attack in a PM from this guy for that post. Bush league :lmao:

Seriously? That's pathetic.... Anywho, I recall a glorious run to a championship some time back compliments of one Ladell Betts. Anyone who doesn't see the merit in sifting through viable backup RBs is a guppy I want in my leagues.

It makes me sad to see that pretty much my entire dynasty team is nothing but backup rb's hoping to cash in

Scott

Karim/Jennings

Lewis

Delone Carter/Brown

Rodgers

Spiller

My only viable backs are

Benson, Sproles and maybe Ingram.

:lmao: Dumped a bunch of old guys looking for lotto. :bag:

BECAUSE YOU CARE..... :excited:

I agree with this. Hunter could be very valuable during the playoffs. Prior to the last couple of games, he was already gettng 8-10 touches a game, even with Gore in there. I could see them resting Gore down the stretch with that division locked up. Outside of Tate, he has the most upside of anyone in this thread for this season.

As a Hunter owner I'd love to see this happen, but is there any reason SF wouldn't be playing for that #2 seed, a bye in the first round (or perhaps #1 seed should the pack lose a couple and home field)? The NFC East will likely cannibalize each other, but it would take a few more saints and giants losses coupled with more niners wins to make this more of a reality.
