Former University of Michigan football coach Bo Schembechler was transported to Providence Hospital after a medical emergency Friday morning, a Southfield Police Department official has said.

Schembechler is currently listed in critical condition with an undisclosed ailment, according to Providence Hospital officials, according to a WDIV Local 4 report.

Detective John Harris said Southfield officers escorted an ambulance carrying Schembechler to Providence Hospital at about 9:30 a.m. Medical personnel were called to WXYZ-TV in Southfield after Schembechler apparently suffered a medical problem.

Last month, the 77-year-old Schembechler had a pacemaker and defibrillator installed after he had dizziness and other symptoms while taping his weekly television show.

According to WDFN 1130 Providence hospital has announced a Press Conference at anytime...

I am listening to WXYT in Detroit. This is a sad day in Michigan. The game against tOSU does not seem as important now. GL to coach Carr in rallying the troups.

The thoughts and prayers of the Texas Football family go out to the family and loved ones of Coach Schembechler. He was loved on and off the field and his passion and dedication helped in making college football the greatest sport on the planet.

May he rest in peace.

Go Blue.

If true, it is an amazing side plot to the game tomorrow.
An unbelievably amazing subplot.
Ive been saying Michigan is goin to win this, and this sets it up for even a bigger, really legendary win if they do.I still think the difference will be Michigans defense...Woodley and Burgess are beasts, Hall is the best shutdown CB in the NCAA, and as good as TSmith seems to be able to handle pressure, I think that front 7 will force him to make plays before theyre there, make a mistake or 2, and take away his big play threat in Ginn with Hall on him.As a PSU student, Michigan certainly impressed me more. And last year we rattled Smith in the night game in Columbus last year, with a defense very similar to Michigans with a strong pass rush (Hali, Rice, Paxson, Alford), great LBs (Puz and Connor), and a shutdown corner (Zemaitis). Different team granted, but Troy Smith can be flustered.RIP Bo, and Go UM (at least more than OSU)

Bo also has ties to OSU and was a assitant coach under Woody before moving on to Michigan. I hope there is enough time to pay a proper tribute to Bo at halftime tomorrow.
I'm an OSU fan who works at UM. I was talking to some folks at lunch about whether they would do something at the game tomorrow. They said no way, but I thought with the timing and his ties to OSU that it was at least a good possibility. I'd like for them to do it, and I would HOPE that the crowd would react appropriately.

The air of this game has been sucked right on out of Columbus. I'm shocked and what a terrible loss to college football. I'm very suprised he was at the studio this am just days after a serious heart attack.Bo also has ties to OSU and was a assitant coach under Woody before moving on to Michigan. I hope there is enough time to pay a proper tribute to Bo at halftime tomorrow.RIP BO You helped make this rivalary what it is today...God Bless. I think it will effect the older fans of the game more than it will effect the youngsters playing the game....I'm sure there will be the win it for Bo battle cry of course you still have to excute.
This is the way it should be. Curse his name when he was on the other sideline, but praise him as the honored foe and the great football icon that he was. I didn't realize that he'd been at OSU.

OSU great and current Ohio State Alumni Association President and CEO Archie Griffin has made the following statement.

"I am deeply saddened to learn that Bo Schembechler has passed away today.

"Bo was a special, special man; and he's someone whose friendship and camaraderie I treasured. Although we were often opponents on the football field, I had the pleasure to develop a relationship with Bo through the years.

"When I was in high school, Bo was actually one of the first Big Ten coaches who recruited me. He wanted me to come to the University of Michigan, and there is no doubt that I seriously considered his offer. Truth be told, Bo recruited me before Woody Hayes did. In later years we often joked about this, and I can still hear Bo laughing and saying, "Arch, Woody wouldn't even have recruited you if I didn't first."

"Bo always did have a wonderful sense of humor. It was one of the many characteristics that allowed him to be a success at whatever he did. He was a great football coach, but he was much more than that. He was an advocate for student-athletes, a teacher, and someone on whom everyone could depend.

"And Bo had great connections to Ohio State. He played for Woody Hayes at Miami and later coached with Woody here. Many people have the misconception that Woody and Bo disliked each other. That couldn't be further from the truth. They were best friends and very similar to each other. In fact, when I read Bo's autobiography a few years ago it sounded like it was Woody speaking from those pages.

"I am proud to have known Bo. The fact that we were on opposite sides of a great rivalry really means little in the grand scheme of things. When it came to the important things in life, Bo and I were on the same team and we always will be.

"My condolences go out to the Schembechler family. The hearts of Buckeye Nation are with you all."

Fans are fans, but when it comes to a death like this, I expect even Ohio State fans will applaud and recognize Bo Schembechler tomorrow. He gave Ohio State fans many great memories - good and bad. 99% of people recognize common human decency more than rabid fandom.

Bo retired my freshman year at Michigan and they printed T-shirts saying "Thanks, Bo"

Thanks Bo

Smash mouth football, 3 yards and a cloud of dust.

:goodposting:Woody and Bo will have one hell of a game to watch together tomorrow. Go Bucks!

Whatever people. Bo was an old man. Death is a natural facet of life. It's ok to feel bad, but let's not pretend that this REALLY affects anyone on this board.

P.S. Go Buckeyes!

I caught a radio interview with a Fox reporter from Detroit. Apparently, Bo had an appointment scheduled with his cardiologist yesterday but opted to go visit, address and eat with the team. Life really is or can be that short and sudden.

There are very few coaches that are synonymous with a school. That is not speaking strictly to what they accomplished on the football field. I mean to say there are very few college coaches that made the kind of impact Bo did on young peoples lives over such an extended period of time...day in...day out...as a coach, educator and mentor. Not many people leave that type of legacy on a campus or have such a positive impact or impression on young men or mutliple generations of students at a single university.

BO is MICHIGAN FOOTBALL

The guy did so much for the university other than football as well. Was very involved in U-M Hospitol.

A very sad day in Michigan.

RIP Coach...

My prayers go out to your family and to the many friends you have been a blessing too.

If it wasn't for coach Bo Schembechler and the great late coach Woody Hayes, the Wolverines and Buckeyes would not be the BEST rivalry in ALL of sports.

Was on the Michigan campus today when the news broke...and it was very somber. I was there from 1976-81, and so had the chance to watch Bo many times -- he was, indeed, Michigan football.

RIP, Bo. You and Woody will have the best seats in the house tomorrow.

Go Blue!

I could not wait to listen to the Michigan games back in the seventies and eighties when the games started at 1:00pm and you could not see every game on tv. Listening to Bob ufer and his cotton picking maize and blue, and referring to Bo as "Bo George Patton Schembechler" and blowing his horn when Michigan scored. No Bo did not have a great bowl record but that will never take away from the memories of true Michigan fans. Also if you never heard Ufer call a "Meechigan" game you missed a true ledgon. I will be at a sports bar to watch the game tomorrow, I live in Atlanta Ga. Bo will be on all our minds. Thanks for the memories Bo  :bye: http://bentley.umich.edu/bhl/exhibits/umosu/woodyvbo.htm http://bentley.umich.edu/stadium/stadtext/ufer.htm

Agree.... and I would hope that OSU fans don't stoop (and believe the won't) to the Auburn fan level eventually and start carrying skeleton's with Michigan Caps around and wearing tees that say "Bo is Dead"....
