Bobby Engram: Will he make a difference for the seahawks? (1 Viewer)

He is 35, coming off of an injury and probably nowheres near being in game shape and has been a #3 receiver for a majority of his career...next question please

Interesting take when at 34, he had a career year. Mainly because he became Hasselbeck's go to guy. Seeing as how no Seattle receiver has stepped up and Deion Branch is coming off a far worse injury that may take a lot longer to come back from, I would say Engram has a very good chance, easily the best of Seattle's WRs, to be there No. 1 WR the rest of the year. Seattle's No. 1 WR has been top 15 ish (Jurevicious was #23 when Jackson missed a bunch of time) since Hasselbeck became the full time starter in 2003.So, to ignore the guy who was WR15 in 2007 and seems like he has the inside track to get back to the WR1 on his team, is not a smart move. I just picked him up because I am in a PPR league and he was WR12 in PPR formats. I have no problem waiting for him to come back. In fact, I drafted Burelson, who was looking great in week 1 until he got hurt, because I knew he was the clear WR1 in Seattle.

I also just picked up Engram to replace Burleson.Good QB, easy schedule, not much competition at WR.

Branch will be there too, Engram will still get single coverage most of the time.
:goodposting: To me, the situation seems a lot like last year. Also, based on FBGs SOS, it looks like Seattle has a number of easy games for WRs (and some tough ones as well), but also their defense has a lot of bad matchups. That means there should be a bunch of shootouts. 5 of the their next 10 games are bad matchups for their defense and good to great matchups for WRs. I like that for a waiver wire pickup who has a good chance at catching a lot of balls (good for PPR) in those 5 games. For a possession guy/QB favorite, he could also catch a lot of balls in 4 of the other 5 games that are bad matchups for their defense and bad WR matchups.

Last year, when Holmgren placed the onus on Hasselbeck to move the offense primarily through the air, Hasselbeck was successful in large part because of his reliance on Engram's ability to be an effective possession receiver in this offense. Because Branch is returning from a late-season ACL tear and hasn't had as much time working with Hasselbeck, Engram should be the top passing option in that offense as long as he and Hasselbeck are healthy. Personally, I believe Hasselbeck is good enough to get Engram the ball and that Engram will put up impressive PPR stats from this point forward, so I'm happy to have him as my WR3. However, if you don't believe Hasselbeck is still one of the top 10 QB's in the NFL, don't count on Engram as your WR3.

I just grabbed him in a ppr league (dropped Kevin Walter). He's my WR6 in a league where we start 3 and have a flex position. Seems like a pretty good gamble.

don't know why engram wouldn't be in game shape. he cracked a bone in his shoulder. his legs are fine, and he's been training.

Engram is one of those nice role players to have on your squad -- a safe plug in for those games you feel confident about, and just need to ensure that no one in your lineup craps out altogether.
