Boncos offically release Ian Gold and Javon Walker (1 Viewer)

The Denver Broncos have released wide receiver Javon Walker and linebacker Ian Gold, the team said on its web site.

Both were once among Denver's top players, but both are also coming off knee injuries, and both were due roster bonuses next week.

The Broncos acquired Walker in exchange for a second-round draft pick in 2006, and he had a very good first year in Denver. But injuries slowed him down in his second season, and the Broncos were looking to trade him.

Although the Dallas Cowboys were among the teams interested in acquiring Walker's services, the $5.4 million roster bonus he's due may have been too much for any team to want to take on.

Gold was once a Pro Bowler, and he started all but the last two games for the Broncos last year, but the quality of his play has declined in recent years.

. Javon's knee's are about done
Javon is expected to be fully healthy going into the 2008 season.
:football: didn't know you could make a diagnosis with an examine.
I recently heard on WEEI that he should be ready to go in 08.I guess we'll see if he passes a physical in Dallas, Washington, Tampa Bay, etc.
it funny to me that everyone is saying that he is done. And the guy was paying at the end of the year.

ok, by 'done' i mean his days of actually being productive are 'done'. Javon has never been the great route runner or technician say of Torry Holt where he can play at a high or good level if his knees aren't sound. Javon's great attribute was his great athleticism. and was he really playing at the end of the year? who could tell

IIRC, Da Bears were looking at Gold a few years ago. I dunno if there still any interest? Maybe he could provide depth behind Hillenmeyer at WLB?

Is it just me or does it seem Shanahan is just senile now...I dont really get some of the decisions hes making...he couldnt have gotten at least a 5th round pick for either?

At least one team disagrees:
The Broncos just cut Javon Walker, but a high-ranking Redskins official said the team has no interest in pursuing the 6-foot-3 receiver because it thinks he's done at 29 after catching just 26 passes for 287 yards and no touchdowns last season.

Walker blurb from scout.com:

Walker is due a $5.4 roster bonus this Monday (March 4) and sources believe it would be hard to a team to trade for a player who is coming off of knee surgery on a troublesome right knee. The surgery was done this past October and he missed a total of eight games last season. Denver head coach Mike Shanahan didn't deny that Walker could need microfracture surgery on his right knee somewhere down the line. Walker had ACL surgery on his right knee early in the 2005 season.“I think you’d have to talk to (head athletic trainer) Steve Antonopulos there. The doctors thought that after his surgery (back in October) that it would take five to six weeks to get back full speed. There’s talk of a microfracture (procedure) somewhere down the line. I don’t know when that’ll be, it could be two to three years from now, it could be four years, you just don’t know," the head coach said at his season-ending press conference last month.
Walker's dynasty stock = :goodposting:

Yes, the Redskins have so much success identifying good free agents.
