Bonds just sucks... (1 Viewer)

OPS is probably the one stat closest to describing how good a player is in baseball.
I disagree with this. It's good, but not as good as other (nerdier) stats in terms of correlation with team runs scored.
I thought 1.2OBP + SLG is supposedly the best indicator, no?
I like the stats that incorporate defense and position, personally.Offensively, I like stats that incorporate SB and CS too.For general, at the plate hitting? Sure, that's fine.

OPS is probably the one stat closest to describing how good a player is in baseball. But it is not perfect because it includes OBP which is not a perfect stat. Pitchers pitch around Bonds a ton because he has nobody protecting him in the lineup. If you took out his intentional walks plus his unintentional intentional walks then youd get a better indicator of a players OBP. Dont get me wrong Bonds' would still be pretty high most likely but not to the ridiculous nature it is now.
actually it sums it up perfectly.Teams are afraid he will just hit it out of the park. So it is less risky for them to not give him anything good to hit and take their chances with the next guy in the lineup even with an extra man on base. So klesko then molina plus a runner hurts them less than just barry. That is an amazing statement about his skill
