Bored Upgrade - discussion (1 Viewer)

One thing I've never understood is why they simply don't intergate Google's search functionality within the board. Google provides the code and instructions necessary to intergate their search on any website and to search specifically within that website (based on their index). Maybe it's a bit more complicated for a board, but it's very easy for a standard website.
That'll be $600,000. TIA.

It also doesn't work very well.

There was a post in TSP a while back in which one of the key er founders (say) stated quite plainly there would be no further tweaking of the search function.

What I find ridiculous is that the search function was working for those who knew how to use, primarily the search by title function, which worked fine (IMO). I have no idea and have seen no explanation why after yanking x-thousand threads out of this server/engine/forum the search- by-title function is completely shot, it makes no sense. My guess is that it is simply pointing at the wrong server name or location, I have no idea, but it would seem to me it should be very fixable.

When you search and are looking by title, first type in: "allintitle:" (without quotes).

Example: allintitle: bored upgrade

They could integrate that in too what they have already setup, if they so choose to.

Well look at that. Hey this would be a good pinned title, search tips, just an idea, but I'm impressed and many thanks.

I will not renew my FBG membership unless the search function is fixed. Some slightly less hideous quoting function would be nice too.

Take Don't Take my cash to the bank Joemigo.

It's hard to use Google to search inside just a specific thread. Or find a certain post by a particular poster. Like, if you wanted to find the last time siffoin mentioned a particular stock or Goo Roo talked about the Giants, you can't.
That's still a problem, searching within threads is almost useless.

I would love to hear the technical explanation why it worked before but now doesn't.

Technical explanation: it's broke.

You likely have already tried this, but you can try using the advanced search functions by clicking the cog wheel at the right of the search field. You can then search by keywords, authors, view by post instead of by thread, etc.

Here's an example for siffoin. Here's an example for TheGooRoo. Is that more or less what you were looking for?

Have they pinned a "search tips" thread yet? I tried searching for it but, well, you know.

Good. They can get back to working on putting the football guy logo back on the tabs. I hear they're hoping to have that done by spring 2018. Don't need anymore setbacks.

Can I use the emoji smileys when on the mobile version?
Yes if you type them in manually or cut and paste from somewhere else. I asked, what seems like years ago, if we could have posting tools for iOS. No smilies or other tools are present for iPhone or iPad. Seems basic for popular board software like FBG uses.

I read a thread and click on Back to Footballguys Free For All and it shows that I've not read the thread. But there is not a new post :loco:

It's been doing that all weekend.

Also, I noticed if I go into a thread and post, the post doesn't show up. Go back to the FFA main page and it shows as unread. Refresh and the post counts and times don't update. For a long time. Go back into an active thread and no new posts.

But if I manually update the page number in the url, I'll get the latest posts.

For some reason, cached versions are loading instead of live ones.

It may be how my browser has chosen to deal with the infinite redirect loop that just started causing the pages to not load at all.

Assuming either something changed or some ad I'm not seeing is corrupt.
I was getting the "infinite redirect loop" as well this weekend.

I think the URL changed, once I updated my bookmark for the FFA the problem went away.
