Brad Childress having second thoughts about starting Jackson? (1 Viewer)

Vikings coach Brad Childress slightly backed off his commitment to Tarvaris Jackson in his Monday press conference.

Watching the tape of Sunday's loss likely altered Childress' frame of mind. "I’m always looking at what’s giving us the best opportunity to win," he said. "If it’s Tarvaris, it’s Tarvaris. If it’s Gus Frerotte, Gus Frerotte. J.D. Booty, J.D. Booty." Jackson is likely to start Week 3, but gets a difficult matchup against Carolina and another bad game could cost him his job.

might be time to looking into grabbing Berrian on the cheap (or WW).

With Gus running the show and Rice possibly missing some time, BB could post decent numbers.

I think too much is being made of Childress' response. I mean, what was he going to say "Yes, I'm blindly staking my coaching job to Tarvaris." OF COURSE he's keeping an open mind. :lmao: I also think this is futile discussion since this offense as a whole [including playcalling] and some of the key cogs [shainacoe] are unmistakable contributors to the final results. A catch here and better playcall there and this team is 2-0 with everyone calling TJax a legitimate QB when in fact he still would be simply a mediocre QB, at least running this offense.

Check out Gus and his stats over the years, then come back and offer up some BB optimism. Sorry for being a wetrag, but Gus is not nearly as good as everyone seems to think.

Tarvaris... Frerotte... BootyI think Childress is a crappy coach but none of these names are going to solve anyone's QB problems.

 How good does everyone think he is?Hard to imagine he won't be an improvment over Jackson. Hence the optimism. He wasn't terrible last season. Started 4 games and threw for 7 TDs (two less than Jackson) behind one of the worst lines in the league.

This isn't a bad idea. I haven't seen the official target stats, but every time I flip to the Minnesota game I see Berrian getting thrown to (though usually wide left, wide right, short, or over his head).

:goodposting: If he did this he would have brought in some QBs in the off season to compete with Jackson. Instead he avoid any sort of contraversey and brought in players that TJ could easily beat out.

Is the issue with Jackson at all? I tend to think the problem is coaching. The play calling is atrocious. And is Berrian ever open?

Who was out there to really bring in? I know they expressed interest in Sage Rosenfields(sp).

Every coach always looks at film before commenting on anything regarding a game. The game film shows you a lot more than what you see on TV or live during a game.

No big name players but there are a lot of nobodies that have done very well in this league. Kurt Warner, Tom Brady, Tony Romo, Jake Delhomme etc. I wouldn't be surprised if there is another one like them out there but the Vikings aren't looking. Instead they fill up the roster with J.D. Booty who from most accounts does not have NFL quality arm. Why bother with a guy if his maximum potential is to be another Chad Pennington?

I have watched the Vikings two games and TJ is not a good QB but Childress is not NFL head coach material. He isn't high-school coach material.

The play calling is atrocious. Dierdorf knew that the TJ roll out was coming on 3rd down yesterday and he mentioned that if he knew it was coming then the Colts did too. Childress really sucks at being an HC.

Carolina comes to town and the Vikes will lose this one. 0-3

They will then go on the road to Tenn and New Orleans. Win one of them and they are 1-4. Lose both, 0-5, and Childress has got to be canned.

To the Eagle fans out there, how was it when he was in Philly? Was it this bad when he was their OC?

How did he get the HC job over Ted Cottrell in Minny?

If Cleveland keeps losing, Derek Anderson might be an option as Cleveland wants Brady in there, especially if they are out of playoff contention.

Mort just mentioned the possability of Garcia to Minni. Not really a rumor, just more a Garcia wants out and Ziggy wants to win now observation.

Maybe I should watch the tape... maybe Chilldress play calling will be better than second time around.
