Winovich, Gary, and Bush. Those three came into the game hobbled, were wounded during, and knocked out - respectively. Those were the corner stones. Without them - just guys. And even with them Indiana laid the blue print last week. You guys just expanded on it. It wasnt going well obviously, but it didnt get out of hand until that Gary-Bush double whammy.

I am up in the air on what I want to happen with the Bucks and their bowl. You always love your team to make the playoffs, and it is not like the Big12 has done anything in their attempts. However, if they go to the Rose Bowl, I have the green light from the wife to get tickets for us to see the parade and game, so that would be cool. And they do well beating up on PAC12 teams.

I'm feeling the same. If they make the CFP, great. If not, I'm okay with that too. The team we saw play against TTUN isn't the same team we've been watching all season. If they played that way all year, they would be in the mix for the CFP and controlling their own destiny (if not already have their ticket punched). If they get in, I don't see them getting past Alabama or Clemson. Maybe ND, but who knows. I wouldn't mind seeing OSU vs OK, that would be a good game. But overall, I'm not sold they have played well enough to get a spot in the CFP.

I would prefer to sit this CFP out, which is what I am anticipating. Although we looked good on Saturday, we have not looked good for most of the year. I would be happy with the Rose Bowl.
If by chance we make the playoffs, then I hope they shock me and the world but I’m not betting on them!

This is EXACTLY how I feel, to the letter. If we don't make it in, I'm okay with that, just win the Rosebowl. If we make it in, fine, just show up and play your asses off this year don't dial it in and lay a big goose egg like they did a couple of years ago. I cannot stand that smug SOB Sweeney, I find that guy detestable.

If they play like they did Saturday, they can beat any other team. Bar none. It has just been the consistency.
That said, I love to watch a good underdog Bucks team go from game they are supposed to get crushed to the next like 2014. They were supposed to get mauled by both Alabama and Oregon, and that did not happen. I could see that outcome about as likely as not going well. Either way, I look forward to see what Saturday holds. I have a text notification once Ticketmaster starts selling the Rose Bowl tickets Tuesday AM.

The narrative stuff comparing team A and team X and team Z gets sillier and sillier every year...and at some point people start caring less with this setup or they already have.
They need to get to 8 teams, with 5 conference champs getting bids, 2 wild cards (includes Notre Lame's way in), 1 non-power conference invite (if the team meets certain criteria which can easily be figured out, and if there are no teams then another wild card is handed out), and likely dump the conference championships (make the extra money in the playoffs since that's all they are for). Opening round would be home games this weekend for 1-4 seeds. It's not difficult, it works great in other divisions, so whoever has the strangle hold on the current setup needs to be removed.

I'd be fine with this scenario. But it wouldn't matter, as whoever is ranked as #9 would be pissed they didn't get in and off you go in the same circles.
Not sure how this would work. For SEC this year, GA and Bama are both ranked top 8, so that's no issue. But look at OSU and NW - NW isn't in the top 20, let alone the top 10. Do they get an automatic berth into the CFP? If not, why choose an OSU over a NW if both records are the same (10-1)? For the P5 conferences that have Conf Championships, getting rid of them may be an issue now - if only because you would have teams with similar records. Do you use Points For/Points Against to determine tie-breakers? What if a #20 ranked NW team wins the tie-breaker over a #5 ranked OSU?
I hear alot of talk about removing the Conference Championships, but not sure how well that would go. If only because some conferences just added them due to the CFP scenario (like the Big12).

Honestly, if you're the fourth best non-conference champion, I really don't care what your case is.

40 bowl games produce a LOT of revenue for the schools. You'd have to have a 32 team playoff to come close to replacing that.
The fear is an 8 team playoff, even if it included 7 bowl games, would make the other 33 bowls seem like the NIT in basketball, and their current revenue would plummet.

My post awarded home games in the 1st round to the top 4 teams. I suppose neutral sites could work too.
The bowl schedule remains completely untouched from the current format. You still only need to rotate 3 bowl games (semi's and champ).

Again, the fear (not that I agree with it) is that interest in the other bowls shrinks as the size of the playoff grows. So the fact that their schedule remains completely untouched is meaningless. It's the ticket sales and ad revenue from TV viewers that would shrink.
Again, I would prefer an 8 team playoff and ZERO other bowls, so I'm not arguing to keep the bowls. But I can see why the schools want to keep them. They're gold mines.

Ok, maybe keep the conference championships...only because these conference expansions have made them necessary. They added to their money making machines and I'm not naive to think the conferences will kick teams out.
Might have to reduce a game off the schedule though. That's debatable.
Yes, NW would absolutely get the auto B1G bid.

I don't know this "fear" is substantiated. I definitely don't agree.
The bowl games are meaningless already today. If Toledo against Wyoming is making that much money now, they'll be just fine with 4 major college football games being played before the bowls even start.
You could even allow the 4 teams that lose the week after the conference championships to accept bowl bids. Maybe they would be predetermined, loser of game A slots into Bowl XX. Or, game A and B losers play in Bowl XX and game C and D losers play in Bowl YY. That keeps some of the best teams competing in the bowl season in similar or the same bowls that they'd normally be in.

Again, I agree with you. But they're the ones that are holding back from expanding the playoff.... and that is what their fear is.
