Brand Spanking new ***OFFICIAL*** Ohio State Buckeyes thread! (1 Viewer)

Jaiden McKenzie signed.  3 star DT that had offers and was pursued by all the major players.  Potential to be fantastic at DT.  Man, you look at the current young talent at DT and DE on this team and that defense will just be destroying OLs and QBs for years to come.

From an ESPN article...

Ohio State: To be clear, this is not an indictment of Ryan Day and the Ohio State staff’s recruiting efforts. It was expected that Ohio State’s class wouldn’t be top five as the program transitions from Urban Meyer to Day. Few people in college football have ever been better recruiters than Meyer.

Still, it’s kind of jarring to see Ohio State at No. 20 in Rivals’ rankings. The Buckeyes did get a big commitment from five-star defensive end Zach Harrison on Wednesday and will be in very good shape offensively in 2019 if Dwayne Haskins chooses to come back to school. So don’t go hitting the panic button just yet, Buckeye fans. Ohio State should be back in the top 10 in the rankings soon enough.

What is their star ratings? From what I read, they had a smaller class and would not have had a “top” class no matter who the coach was. I also read (not from SECespn) that the Buckeyes are top three in average star ratings.

There are always cycles where you are going to have smaller classes because of graduation rates and returning scholarship players.

They only took like 16 kids this cycle. They have something like 3 5-stars (same as Bama), but only 11 4-stars. Bama has like 17-18.

Exactly.  They were always expected to be lower and their average player ranking is 3rd overall.  ESPN trying to stir the pot all they can.

Also it is of note that Urban will be serving as Asst Athletic Director for now.  I could see him taking over as full AD before you know it.

QB Justin Herbert staying in school for 2019, which has to ensure that Dwayne leaves.  I am just fine with him leaving and getting his payday.  That will likely lock up a top 10 pick, could be much higher for him.  Just seems like an outstanding kid.  I am excited to get an autographed photo of his to add to my computer room collection.

I would imagine that is true if he’s going to transfer to OSU. You make it sound like we are the  #1 option, which I wasn’t sure of.
Reports I have heard say it is almost a done deal unless Ryan Day just absolutely messes up the meeting.  Fields has not had time to visit OSU due to bowl practice schedules, but a decision is expected shortly after New Years Day.

Had an amazing time start to finish.   It was definitely colder than expected but so much fun.  Could be some interesting news in the next couple of days.

Love the new OC hire.  Another Ohio boy.

I will say this.   Olave was wide open down field at least 3 times yesterday.   Haskins sees that and that is not nearly as exciting a game.

What type of news? Like a QB transfer kind of news?

IF Fields is transferring, he will have it announced and done by this weekend.  In order to get in classes and such in the new quarter/semester.  I am expecting Dwayne to go pro and Fields to announce.  I expect him to not get an exception, and for Tate to have an amazing 2019.  But we shall see. :excited:

Tate scares me tbh. Hope he proves me wrong but at this point, I’m not much of a believer.

I don't think his stock went up at all yesterday. Still likely to go, but I think the chances that he stays just went up a little.

Jordan Fuller and Malik Harrison staying.  Those are two huge pieces to keep.  Only losing Dremont on the D-Line, as well.  Silver Bullets are going to be great if they get the coaching they need.

Per Eleven Warriors, paperwork is in.  Justin Fields is transferring to the Bucks.  That is a pretty nice #Boom there.

Michael Jordan decides he will go pro.  Probably not the best decision for him, but    He needed another year at C and he could have been huge, but with Harry Miller coming in next year, that kid will be a fixture on the OL for a few years and should dominate.  Here's looking forward to fewer snaps that have to be dug out of the turf.

Alex Grinch expected to be named OU DC

Thanks, Buckeyes
Honestly, when he came over I had high expectations but after the year I witnessed, one of the worst defenses I've seen here in years, I hope this is all part of "cleaning house" because what I saw this year in Columbus was a worse defense than the previous year.  The D gave up 26 to IU, 28 to TCU, 49 to Purdue, 51 to Maryland, 39 to scUM. . . I wasn't very impressed.  I've never seen our D look so out of place and confused, it was pretty shocking at times to be honest.

I can't get that Maryland game out of mind, my God the tackling was horrible.  And I kept reading on tOSU fan sites about how bad the players were and I'm thinking "B.S. these are 4 and 5 star recruits, it can't ALL be on them!"  Well, Grinch has some tiny shoes to fill b/c OU's defense was worse than ours. . . and that's saying something!  At any rate, good luck with him!

From what I have read this season was Schiano's defense and Grinch was forced to a backseat.

Schiano has been at tOSU since '16 and they've had decent D's under him but either way, from what I saw of OU's defense this year, as long as he can stand upright and breath he'll be an improvement over what you had!

Is Alex Grinch going to take that collection of midgets and MAC players you call a defense and make them grow 20lbs and all run 4.4’s? If you would have hired Penn State’s strength and conditioning coach I’d be more impressed.

So much salt.   OU doesn't need a top 10 defense just a mediocre defense.  Hell OU has been at the bottom of defense and still made the playoffs.  I would say with an average defense OU is playing not only for last years Championship, but maybe this one as well.  Just need new blood at OU to shakes things up.  Hell OU is in the basement of defenses so Grinch can only go up.

Salt? Like using the same post twice in two different threads? Gtfoh. What I was saying is factual. Your defense this year looked like they had grabbed transfers from the Citadel and put them on the field. Buddy Ryan couldn’t fix your guys #### and everyone will remember it if it comes down to it at the end of next year.

Lots of rumors flying about Michigan LB Coach Al Washington coming to join the staff, along with hometown hero Marcus Freeman coming home.  Could be huge for the defense, let alone recruiting.  Washington is about their best recruiter, so nabbing him would be, shall we say, sweet?

Ok here is some good news I guess.  Just Fields is transferring to Ohio State.   Urban probably trying to get his job back.

Wow, you seem a little high strung. It's a game played by young adults. Try to chill and dial it down a little bit.

Thanks for your input. I’ll make sure to take your anonymous advice on a message board for how I react to trolling.
Feel free to continue acting like a child throwing a tantrum over a game that has no impact on your life. You seem like a level headed fellow. Assuming you are 8 that is.

Haskins, declaring for NFL draft, expected.

Schiano gone, and we are hiring Michigan DLine oach Mattison and 49er's secondary coach Hafley as co-DC.  Still hoping we get Marcus as LB coach. . .  I am thinking all changes happen this week, as they have a coaching retreat this weekend I think I read.

I've seen some twitter rumors/rumblings that Al Washington may be joining Mattison in the defection.  Pretty good hires that should be able to help get the DEF back on track.  I'd like to see Freeman return, but he has a good thing going with Fickle in Cincy.

Bill Davis, LB Coach, isn't being retained either.

Surprised at the Mattison hire as he will be 70 soon. Rumors were that he was not going to be offered a new contract at Michigan. Thought OSU would go after some young gun recruiting machine DC.

They did....Al Washington came to OSU as the LB Coach/Recruiting Coordinator along with Mattison.
