So it looks like Brandon Jacobs may play this week. Worth a flier for anybody desperate for a bye week fill in RB?

When SF brought him in, what was the plan pre-injury for his usage? Goal line vulture? Was he brought in to be the clear #2? Was it a battle at training camp with Hunter and if so, prior to Jacobs injury who was the better of the 2? or was/is Hunter the outright #2?

Any SF homers/fantasy experts have insight into the potential usage of Jacobs both with a healthy Gore or an injured Gore?

Hunter is the 2. They prob will work him into short yardage situations.

Something tells me he will have value moving forward. I picked him up to stash him.

20 yards and 2TD this week?

Old Jacobs is still probably the best punch it in back in football. He's so big and strong, he probably will be til the day he retires.

A million years ago, the Giants set like an all time worst for red zone productivity and their solution was to put Tiki and Jacobs in the backfield on occasion(not all the time and only inside the ten a few times). Ds couldn't stack the line to stop Jacobs because Tiki would run outside. On the very rare occasion Jacobs played a FB role, GL getting around him. Any focus inside made Plax and everyone else's life easier. It invigorated their GL offense and soon enough they weren't doing the two RB set anymore. Defenses just didn't fear them, their mentality was all wrong, and it changed everything in a good way.

If Harbaugh wanted a spark, San Fran could certainly say GL to Ds and put Hunter and Jacobs in in a very similar fashion. I doubt he does.

I don't think ya get creative with Jacobs, but just smash him into the Dline and wear em' down or get a tough first down or GL.

For forever, Jacobs was an absolute nightmare in camp when he got a pass up the sideline. He was simply too fast or strong for any DB to tackle. He did it like maybe three times in preseason and maybe twice during his entire career in the NFL. Somehow the Gmen could never work that in and every DB was under absolute orders from the DC to never let him catch a screen pass there. Wayyy easier to swat a pass away or even make the QB look elsewhere than to stop Jacobs with a full head of steam. That was then though.

As a main RB, he wore down Ds plain and simple. He wasn't that great with vision and moves and...but by the third or fourth Q wow did Ds look beaten up and worn down. The older he got the more he got hurt and was out with banged up knees and sore ankles and everything you could predict about an older RB that played a smashing style.

I don't think he can do anything special anymore and didn't have much special to him before except his enormous RB size. That's all he's got now. He was slowish before and I never really thought he lost any speed like other RBs do. I bet he's the same speed.

Right now he's got about the same draw as putting William "The refrigerator" Perry in or when a coach throws the FB a bone and lets him get a GL carry.

Good luck to the D, we are running right at you, try and stop us.

In the football world, being predictable and succeeding can breed a huge amount of confidence. Gibbs and Parcells both did this countless times during their career. It's arrogant, it's brash, and it'll wreck a defense's confidence to know exactly where the ball is coming and they still can't stop it. I bet Jacobs' value to San Fran will be more than the casual fan notices and that Harbaugh loves the guy.

For FF, I just think some TD vulture at a rate like we haven't seen in years.

Shhhhhhhh. I think he's a sneaky start this week. The shark move is to grab him now and stash him until you can sell high.

(Just kidding. Jacobs sucks and has zero fantasy value.)

Remember when NYG used Bradshaw over Jacobs at the GL because Jacobs is horrible. I've never seen a guy his size stopped so easily in short yardage situations.

:confused:He couldn't even keep the GL job in New York.

 Jacobs may be the most overrated short yardage RB in the league.
:goodposting: I was trying to remember when he was ever one of the best GL backs in the league. As an aside (sort of), do 9er fans, or anyone with insight, have an idea as to who would be the more valuable RB if Gore went down? Hunter of Jacobs?

Probably not much value. For his size, he's not even a good short yardage guy anymore. Runs' way too timid. I feel like hunter is probably the better td vulture compared to jacobs.

It's easily Hunter. He boasts a good combination of strength, speed and vision and would be a low-end RB1 in the event Gore went down. I made sure to roster Hunter in many of my leagues this year. He's a premiere lottery tickets with better odds of hitting than most.

yeah, that whole bit about the jacobs being a high calibre gl back is a myth, and the wearing down defenses canard is imaginary nonsense.

time to retire both those bits of misinformation.

I'd say he's got some desperation potential this week just because they host buffalo, but that's about it.

frankly, I'd much rather have gore in at the gl than jacobs, if I was sf.

buf won't be in nickel all game like they were giving up 2 football fields of rushing yardage to the pats, but it's hard to believe kelvin sheppard can make such a difference.

I have full confidence in mini-gore taking over if needed, but jacobs will get a share to spell Hunter

'.....now get the hell outta here, Jacobs. Go try and re-join the Giants now that they are out of the picture.'
