Brandon Jacobs sneaky play vs 49ers (1 Viewer)

Anybody thinking that Brandon Jacobs might be a solid play this week vs SF? He is pretty much the only game in town with Bradshaw out. He should see 20 touches this week. I know a lot of people think that SF will shut him down, but as impressive as the 49ers have been they haven't really played any great defenses this season.

The Niners have yet to allow any rushing touchdowns. Only 3 teams allow a lower ypc vs. rb's. They give up 14 rushing yards per game less than the second best team.

I'm not going to tell you whether Jacobs is a good start in your league. That's up to you as league sizes/rosters can vary greatly. But the signs don't point to anything good coming from NY's backfield today.

???

I've been see-sawing about Jacobs this weekend. SF is for real in rush D, I don't see this being any different this weekend esp. at home.

I think SF tries to shut down the run as Jacobs is pretty one-dimensional and force Eli to beat them through the air.

That said, Jacobs will be the main guy, and deciding between him and a guy like Helu or Torain (or any other back like Reggie Bush, Ivory/Thomas, etc. where it's unpredictable in terms of how many touches he'll get) provides a little more downside than Jacobs, as at least Jacobs is assured the lion's share of the work.

As much as I want to take a gamble on Jacobs given the situations, I think I'm playing the numbers on this one and going with someone who may get less carries, but find more success with them.

Niners homer here. Let's take a look at how starting running backs have fared against the Niners so far this year:

Marshawn Lynch - 13 carries for 33 yards

Felix Jones - 9 carries for 25 yards, injured

Cedric Benson - 17 carries for 64 yards

LeSean McCoy - 9 carries for 18 yards

LeGarrette Blount - 10 carries for 34 yards, injured

Jahvid Best - 12 carries for 37 yards, injured

Chris Ogbonnaya - 11 carries for 37 yards, took place of injured Montario Hardesty

Roy Helu - 10 carries for 41 yards

Plus zero rushing touchdowns all year. Obviously it depends on the other options you have, but don't expect anything more than 40 yards and zero tds from Jacobs....

SF has had a good rush D for a few years. I wouldn't start Jacobs this year or last.

Outside of McCoy, that list isn't really a Who's Who of great running backs (not that Jacobs is great by any stretch)

That's the point. Even normally solid (Benson, Jones, Best, Blount) or elite (McCoy) backs have not found success. I would rank Jacobs' ability below all of these backs, so not sure we can forecast a high upside here.

With the possible exception of Lesean McCoy none of these guys exactly scare you and with Manning throwing the ball the way he has it's possible he has a decent day and a td.

I'm hoping for 60-80 yards and hopefully a touchdown. Not really expecting anything good, but my hand has kind of been forced at this point due to injuries.

Sure glad I didn't go by football guys rankings and go with Jacobs over Lynch this week. What were they thinking against the 49ers D? SHEESH!
