This is for all you Marshall owners who are wondering how not having Javon Walker in the lineup will affect Brandon Marshall's stats. Will he get more targets and receptions, or will he draw more double teams and get shut down more often? Or will his overall numbers just more or less stay the same (that is, maybe he'll get more targets, but he won't necessarily make more plays since defenses will be trying to shut him down more)?

I'm a little bit ambivalent about this issue, and ultimately think that his numbers will more or less stay the same, with Stokely, Martinez, and Scheffler being the primary beneficiaries of Walker's injury. While he may be targeted more, I feel that one of Marshall's major strengths is his ability to make a play after the catch. With safeties perhaps shifting more over to his side, I don't see him having the opportunity to get as many YAC as he had in the first few games. So I think that while he may get more receptions, I wonder if he might end up with fewer yards per game.

We've seen it for exactly 2 games.Marshall put up 3/23/1 in week 4 and 7/72/0 in week 5. Are you suggesting you've figured it out based on these numbers? Most of us hadn't been overly concerned with this issue since Walker's injury wasn't deemed to be too serious at first. Now that JW is having surgery, Marshall will be the number 1 for a while so this issue may be of greater concern to Marshall owners than it had been in week 4.

In the long run it will be good for Marshall. He has the physical size and ability to be a Number One and now he has the opportunity to grow into the role and to be featured in the game plan.

I said "remain the same", but with a slight lean towards "getting worse" now that he'll probably be paied up with the top CB from the opponent most of the time. He could meet the challenge and be a # 1 WR, but I don't think it happens this year.

I don't think a couple of weeks ago we were looking at Marshall being the #1 guy for the rest of the season. Right now that seems like it's the case. Oh and I think this was asked a few weeks ago.

I don't think this helps, but it probably wont hurt too much. It'll probably mean slightly more targets in the redzone, but tighter coverage through the rest of the field.

I also agree it should help Marshall. He's a tough kid who seems to have a chip on his shoulder. He certainly has the talent and it's clear he feels like he has something to prove--I think he'll excel in the role. And even if he does struggle in the short term (which I don't think will happen), his dynasty value gets a huge boost.

It's a bit unfair to expect Marshall to be a monster mid-way through his second year in the NFL. This guy was a fourth round rookie last year and is performing very well this year. For comparison, in his second year BIG TO:60 receptions, 936 yards, and 8 TDs. Also, for the first five years of TO's career he had a guy by the name of Jerry Rice on the other side to learn from and to attract some defensive attention. Through 7 games Marshall has 36/513/2; if you normalize that for a 16 game schedule he would end up with:82 receptions, 1172 yards and 4.5 TDs. Compare that to TO in his second year in SF:60/935/8Not bad; I say he deserves the BAby TO moniker.

On the field, he has been better than advertised and could easily already have those 8 TD's by now. His ability to run after the catch is impressive for a man of his size, and he has excellent quickness as well as good straight line speed.

That's at least 2X that I personally saw, probably more, that Brandon had the guy beat downfield, where he had to stop, holdup and wait for the ball. The other one a game or two ago, he turned around, came back like he was fielding a punt. I thought Cutler has a monster arm??? not what I'm seeing.

Cutler may have been a little off on that throw, but I still think Marshall should have caught it. Regardless, Denver needs to get him more involved in the offense. He's a monster and possibly the best player on the team.

Marshall is going to be a star in this league. The strength he showed on his big gain last night was phenominal. Denver's pass attack could be scary with a healthy Walker and an emerging Marshall... the only concern is Cutler. Look out for a potent Denver pass attack in years to come if these 3 stay around and Cutler continues to develop in the right direction.
