Brandon Marshall (1 Viewer)

Got offered Brandon Marshall in a deal and was surprised to see his receptions and yardage were so high. Also 5th in the league in targets.

How much do things change when Walker comes back and why does he only have 2 TD's?

Any Denver homers or Marshall owners help me out w/ what they see out of him down the stretch? Thanks.

No one knows for certain what will happen, but IMO these past few games have been very formative for Cutler. He clearly has a good relationship established w/ Mashall, and I think it might take a while for Walker to get back to full speed. I think Marshall stays as the top target (at least in terms of # of receptions) for a while more - Javon might get the deep stuff when he returns, but I think Marshall will have more overall catches.

The Bronco's offense just hasn't been very efficient. Stop listening to ALL off the Cutler (and for love of god, Scheffler too) around here. I'm not hating on him, but he hasn't been nearly as good as so many here have been claiming. The Broncos have been behind in so many games and they still aren't putting up the kind of numbers in the passing game that you'd expect.

I love Marshal, and have him in a PPR, so I don't need the TD's really. I think he was hurt when Walker went down and even though the targets and receptions may lighten up, so will the rolled over coverage. That will allow his great YAC abilities to shine and long TD's will come back. He will be just as valuable if not more so when Walker comes back.

He's been getting a ton of targets. His catches are up there (6 in the first half last game). His yards aren't outstanding but they aren't horrible, either. You still have to consider him a 1st year player in some respects considering he was out for nearly all last year. In addition, Cutler is still learning the NFL. Given those two situations and what Marshall is doing regardless, you have to be excited about Marshall's prospects for both the remainder of this year and all of next year.

I have him in one of my leagues and the guy is incredibly consistent. He gets 7-9 points every week. The td's haven't been there but if they start to come look out.

You hit the nail right on the head . he will only get better .

He wont get better if Walker comes back.
Case closed it seems. :goodposting: Now in reality, Walker will take some targets, obviously. Marshall has not had many red zone opportunities to score. He fights harder than any WR I have ever seen for yards after the catch. His will come. You just gotta worry about that next time he doesn't see some LB coming at him as he makes the DB look silly on his moves for extra yardage.

I'd bet he has been the most consistent WR this season (lowest standard deviation from week to week). And he has been above average.

I love having him in dynasty to pair with the boom/bust of Chad Johnson.

I just did a quick check on the WR's in one of my leagues.Out of the top 50 scoring WR's, he has the lowest standard deviation on his weekly scores. He has an average of 18.7 ppg with a high of 28.35 and a low of 13.85.Our league even counts in return yards and usually the most consistent receivers are kick returners (Josh Cribbs/Ted Ginn). It's pretty rare for a non-returner to be the most consistent in this format.

Is that PPR? In standard FBGs scoring, he's gone for 11, 8, 13, 8, 7, 7, 7, 9, 8. That's unreal.

That's not all good news. It's good that he's not having any very low games, but a low standard deviation almost always goes along with mid-to-low averages. If you have the data handy, normalize the standard deviation by dividing it by average points per week and I think you will see that he is no longer the top performer.By the way, thanks for the information. I appreciate the effort. It's just that LT (for example) will likely never have the lowest standard deviation among RBs as he blows up for huge games many times each year...

Another thing to consider is the multiple times Marshall has been brought down after long runs inside the five. If you read Joe Bryant's Random Thoughts column each week he breaks down the guys who ALMOST scored. I don't have the exact number, but I remember seeing his name 4 times as getting tackled inside the five= he has also had two TD taken away by penalties, one a cheap offensive pass interference call. He has been close to the goal line, but sometimes it's better just to not know.

I don't know, I can't *EVER* recall seeing a WR as consistent as Marshall so far this year. If you arrange his scores from high to low, he's scored 13, 11, 9, 8, 8, 8, 7, 7, 7. In 66% of his games, he's either put up 7 or 8 points (and he's never scored below 7). Even if you factor in his low average per game, that's going to be pretty darn hard to top.

I've only seen on Denver game, on MNF. In that game it didn't seem like Cutler looked at Marshall until late in the second half and hit him with his three catches for the game over a five play span. Didn't feel like Cutler looked at him as much as the target numbers suggest. Also last week when he was targetted, what 19 times or something, I believe most of them were AFTER Cutler went down. Can Denver fans confirm this?

I don't know the specifics of his target breakdown last week, but I can confirm that Cutler most certainly has tunnel-vision for Marshall, especially with Walker out.
