Broncos | Marshall receives praise

Published Tue Jun 13 11:07:00 a.m. ET 2006

(KFFL) Frank Schwab, of the Colorado Springs Gazette, reports Denver Broncos rookie WR Brandon Marshall is earning the respect of his teammates. "He's obviously going to take some time as a rookie at the receiver position," Denver Broncos QB Jake Plummer said. "But he's got all the tools right off and he's a really smart kid and he has great hands."

Broncos | Shanahan discusses B. Marshall Published Thu Jul 27 10:23:00 p.m. ET 2006

(KFFL) Denver Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan was asked if he had any offseason surprises and he replied: "I think the guy that really stood out was rookie WR Brandon Marshall, wide receiver. He stood out to our defensive backs. Here's a guy who's 6-3, 230, that showed explosiveness, speed, quickness and good hands and you hate to pat a guy on the back before you get started but I think our players could see his skill for a young guy."

That is a great compliment coming from Shanny, especially when he wasn't asked outright about the guy. He asked about surprises and that's the first thing that popped into his head. Sweet.

Brandon Marshall has a shot to be Denver's WR3

Published Wed Aug 2 12:37:00 p.m. ET 2006

(Rotoworld) Brandon Marshall has a shot to be Denver's third receiver this season.

Impact: The development of the Central Florida product in training camp has reportedly been impressive. Called "Baby T.O." because of his size, Marshall is competing with Darius Watts and David Terrell for playing time.

Broncos | Marshall surprising coaching staff with his play

Published Wed Aug 2 3:28:00 p.m. ET 2006

(KFFL) Denver Broncos rookie WR Brandon Marshall has surprised head coach Mike Shanahan with his performance in training camp so far. "He's got great hands, and he's got good size," Shanahan said. "Like all rookies, you have to go through a learning curve, but he has excellent hands. It's very seldom to have a guy come in at that size and that speed with soft hands. He doesn't really even think about it, he just kind of gulfs the ball. Saying that, he has still dropped a number of passes because his concentration level has got to be there all the time. He just has to keep on working because he does have a big upside."

On Sirius radio today, Chris Carter was talking him up. Apparently Carter is good friends with Marshall, and he said that between Smith, Walker and Marshall, the Broncos have the best WR trio in the NFL.

Important point to be made: He isn't just called Baby T.O. because of his size. Apparently he had character flags attached to him, which is one of the reasons why he slipped in the draft. Don't know if he's a good character or bad character guy, I just know that there were character concerns about him before the draft.

I'd be happy to join the Brandon Marshall fan club!!

Of course the chances of a rookie WR shining in their first season are remote but out of the WR's ahead of him in the FBG Rookie Rankings, he stands out for upside.

Jackson will have to compete with the 237 players Brady will throw to. Holmes needs to wake up to himself and start working on being a pro footballer. Moss is unlikely to be any better than WR3 this year and also has to get the ball out of Barber & Shockey's hands. Jennings has moved into a situation where the WR's are thin but who will throw to him in 2007.

Think about the situation he has landed himself in, Rod Smith is getting old and is a wonderful player to learn from, Javon Walker come back from a busted knee and could easily go down again, Ashley Lelie is just a head case for not even competing on this team with the above two mentioned WR's. I certainly want Marshall on my dynasty roster now!!

I don't recall any character issues with him.... I mean he made the switch from DB to WR in his senior year, potentially hurting his draft position. I was definitely under the impression his "baby TO" monicker came stricly from his physical similarities to Owens, size and speed wise, jumping ability, etc.

Would like to see a Link about his "Character" issues. The reason from what I understand is that at UCF his Junior year he switched to Saftey and led the team in tackles. He was suspended one game for violating team rules in 2004. So if your going off 1 game I guess he has Character issues. What kept him down is that he does not super speed and may not break a lot of tackles.

He didn't really "switch" from DB to WR in his senior year. He was always a WR, he just played DB his junior year because his team was hit hard with injuries. And I agree that it shows he's a team player that he was willing to make the switch (that no doubt hurt his draft stock) to help his team win.

Marshall hasn't shown any signs of the character flaws he was labeled with in some of the predraft analysis. He had a reputation for being a me- first player, extending the Terrell Owens comparisons off the field.

But his college coach, George O'Leary, said the Broncos shouldn't worry about Marshall's personality. O'Leary, who coached him as a junior and senior, said he remembers Marshall being "stupid" once, and that he was a joy to coach. Marshall even sacrificed his development as a wideout to play safety in an emergency as a junior in 2004 on Central Florida's 0-11 team because of an injury.

"I think most of that stuff, just him looking for attention, happened before I got there," O'Leary said. "If people weren't drafting him because of off-the-field stuff, that was a mistake. He's a pretty good kid. I'm proud of this kid, who stayed and finished his degree. I still keep in touch him. He's no problem."
Again, I never said he had character issues, I said he had PERCEIVED character issues. As far as I'm concerned, if a WR is willing to play DB, then his heart's in the right place.

Does Watts being cut help his value?

Will Marshall see much action this year? Thoughts on his dynasty value? Could be be WR2 next year if Rod retires?

Watts being cut drastically helps Marshall's value. Watts and Marshall were both being groomed to be the next big Denver WR. With Watts gone, Marshall's main competition is gone.David Kircus has looked really good so far, but he was a bubble player all along. While it's not unheard of for a bubble player who went undrafted or has been repeatedly cut to make something of himself (Rod Smith, anyone?), it's far more likely, from a numbers standpoint, that Kircus next year becomes a Charlie Adams or Todd Devoe- overachiever who made an impact for a season or two and then fell down the depth chart. Which pains me to say, because I really like Kircus, and he and Cutler seem to have a phenominal connection.Marshall has to, at this point, be viewed as the likely successor to Rod Smith when (if?) he finally hangs up his cleats. As far as his contribution this season... I don't think it will be much. Smith and Walker are the clear #1/#2. I think Kircus has all but sewn up the #3 job for this season. Scheffler is another rookie target who will be pushing for looks. Marshall missed a big chunk of the preseason with an injury and may take a while to get back up to speed. I don't see big numbers from him this year- maybe 400 yards receiving tops unless someone ahead of him goes down.

I watched his progress on this board throughout training camp and was impressed with the postive news said about him from team mates and coaches. I was able to snag him in the first year :e: dynasty league and I am looking forward to watching to develop and hopefully be the successor to Smith.

So yes I am drinking the Marshall Kool-Aid :banned: :banned: :banned:

For all the Brandon Marshall hype, he's still the 4th receiver in a run first offense that only accounted for 18 passing TDs last year.

He is not rosterable in redrafts.

if it were a redraft league I would have not targeted him this year. He is atleast a year away for solid production (depends on when Smith retires). But for a dynasty league, he is definitely worth a look and a potential roster spot.

I agree. He's definitely worth a roster spot in Dynasty leagues.

Agree,DYNASTY: must ownREDRAFT: not worthy of a spot.

Anything new on Marshall? Haven't heard much lately. He's played the last few games, but has yet to catch a ball. I had heard in the preseason that he was having some trouble picking up the offense. Given the fact that he played DB as a JR at CFU, it seems possible that he might be a little slower to develop than some. Are we still high on him as a dynasty prospect?

Current Puffy Piece

He says he's ready to break out! :excited:

he fourth-round pick used his 6-foot-5, 230-pound frame and quickness to make one big play after another in training camp. He started the preseason opener in Detroit when starters Rod Smith and Javon Walker sat out as precautions. Marshall, though, suffered a sprained knee in the game and missed the rest of the preseason and the season opener at St. Louis.

Marshall has played the past two games, but has yet to make a catch.

"The Kansas City game was really, really fast," Marshall said. "But I noticed at New England that the game really slowed down. I felt comfortable. That was a good sign. I expect the Baltimore game to be very slow for me and even more comfortable. I'm ready to break out."

with Plummer throwing, having anyone breakout will be a miricale this year.

Hope the move to Cutler is soon, then next year I would expect to see results from Marshall.

I heard he made a nice play last night.
It was pretty impressive.
Yes, it was. He caught a pass facing the QB and turned upfield. 2 defenders sandwiched him, and as they did so he covered the ball with both arms. Somehow he squirmed away from the 2 defenders, then made a third defender miss while running, and scored a TD on a play that looked impossible to score on.

That play made me smile.

Those guys seemed to bounce of him more than he squirmed away. That's what it looked like to me anyway.

Baby TO...ooooooh YEAH

Anybody have a link to the play? They have a nice article on the catch on the Bronco's website....you'd think they'd have a video clip of the play with it......no......that makes too much sense.....

can someone please explain to me the EEEEEEEEEEEEEE bit?

I feel like I've missed a joke or something and I want to play too.

Last year at the draft in Radio City, I shrieked like a Beatles fan in 1964 when Marshall FINALLY got picked in the 4th. I then ran to Adam Schefter and excitedly told him that the Broncos (who he covered for a long part of his career) had just gotten the steal of the draft. He told me to slow down and tell him who it was again.so now I shriek at every mention of Marshall (E)
