Braylon Edwards (1 Viewer)

As for Fantasy - If Holmes leaves and it's Braylon / Cotchery... He could definitely get 1200 yards and 10 TDs IMO...

And that Is top 10 from last years stats....
I think this is wishful thinking. In his 38 games playing with the Jets (and by extension Sanchez), Edwards has averaged 2.97 catches, 50.1 yards, and 0.34 TD a game. That works out to 47 catches, 801 yards, and 5 TD projected over a full season. I don't see him getting a 50% jump in yardage and a 100% increase in TD. And from the sounds of it, the Jets would rather have Holmes, so Edwards might be the one looking for work (but clearly that's just speculation).
I'm not sure if "38" is a typo and/or if that number then factored into your averages (it looks like it did), but Edwards has only played 28 games with the Jets (34 if you count the playoffs). One and a half of those games in 2009 was with Kellen Clemmens at QB because Sanchez was hurt - and Clemmens looked horrible when he replaced Sanchez for the second half of the Buffalo game and then started against TB the next week. Also a few other factors that work against those averages:

- Edwards basically sat out of Week 17 in 2010 (as did most of the starters). He only played one series I beleive. I was at the game. Brunnell started, Clemmens came in. McKnight played RB. Edwards started but was out of the game in a blink of an eye.

- Edwards was "suspended" for one quarter during the Miami game after his DWI.

- Edwards was traded to the Jets mid-season in 2009 from Cleveland so he didn't really have a grasp of the playbook right away or chemistry with Sanchez.

Last season he had 900 yards and 7 TDs in 15 games (as stated above he didn't really play Week 17) as the #2 WR, so while those numbers may be unlikely (I'd say they are a little high), they are not as unreasonable as your "averages" (which I think are even more flawed if you used 38 games) indicate.
:goodposting:

In 2009 Braylon came to NY to play with then rookie Sanchez and try to get acclimated as quick as he could as the Jets offense was running the ball at will....

Last year he played as the #2 WR...

My numbers that I said he "could" get were based on Holmes leaving and BE being the #1 target for a whole season.

It would be the 1st season BE gets to come in from square 1 as THE number 1 target for the season and also Sanchez' 3rd year which should show some improvement on his end as well as a relationship with Edwards...

As for his career with the Jets, and given all that I would say he could certainly break out from whatever he has shown so far, I already know from everything Rex has written and said, that BE is working his tail off to be a better WR and has worked with WR coach Henry Ellard.

Again, he had 900/7 last year.... Why project and look too hard at anything more than what he actually did after the year changing teams and working with a rookie?
Reaper

What percent chance to you give to:

Holmes signing elsewhere

Braylon resigning with NYJ

Both of the above
It's all speculation... I can't put a percentage on that. I would have given 90% that Thomas Jones would have stayed last year.... pffft.

It's just my feeling that Holmes is going to get a TON of money in this market as some team is going to be forced to spend their money and be willing to overpay.... And Holmes is going where the money is...

Braylon on the other hand values NY a lot more. And again Rex, from what I read in his book and hear and see all over, absolutely Loves Braylon and has 0 issues in regards to work ethic, play on the field or as a team mate.

It's all 50% ;)
So I guess the safe money is on Holmes in a Jet uniform and Edwards not.
I didn't think that:

1)the Jets were ready to give the largest bonus ever paid to a WR and pay SICK money

2) As reported, Santonio Holmes took less money than he was offered from another team, presumably The Redskins....

All Talk was that Holmes was going to the highest bidder. Though I gotta say, he still got paid.

All said, I'm pretty happy but, I will always be a Braylon Edwards fan, i think he was great in NY, a great team mate, does all the little things like Rex says and was great to the fans - still hope he stays. But damn, can there be any money left?????

RT @OfficialBraylon: I would love to be a Jet but the feeling doesn't seem to be mutual with the management.

Looks like he will be moving on to another team despite his interest in remaining with the Jets

Assuming Edwards is gone, where does everyone see Cotchery's stats in 2011?
Assuming they don't sign Moss/etc, a return to 80-catch seasons.
Think Keller benefits more. He could get 60 catches just because (like Jabar Gaffney did last year), but he's not going to be more than useless depth in fantasy.
:goodposting:I already felt like Keller was a forgotten man in rankings & mocks. Major sleeper pick now.

 loving keller this year.

article below about alleged multiple stabbing by two members of edwards entourage... this was just a few days after he was in ohio for a probation violation hearing, where he was extended a year for getting a DWI while still serving probation for punching lebron's friend... PFT noted they weren't sure if it could possibly constitute (another) violation of the court order to stay out of trouble while on probabtion (very possible he had nothing to do with it), or trigger a probation violation hearing for the just few day old probation violation hearing...

the market being depressed for edwards services is a real puzzler and head scratcher... i just can't put my finger on what the problem is?

"Two brothers, reportedly part of NFL receiver Braylon Edwards entourage, were arrested in Birmingham in connection with a weekend stabbing incident at South Bar.

Its our understanding these two people were with him, Deputy Police Chief Mark Clemence said Tuesday. But as far as the Birmingham Police are concerned, hes a non factor in the incident. His name is not mentioned in any of the police reports.

The stabbing took place around 2 a.m. Monday as the bar was closing for the night. Witnesses said the bouncers were trying to break up a large fight in the back in the bar when one brother stabbed a bouncer with a fork and the other brother stabbed a different bouncer with a pocket knife. The two bouncers were taken to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital, where they were treated and released.

While trying to flee from the establishment, one of the brothers reportedly ran through a glass railing circling the bars front patio. Both were taken into custody by police and arraigned on Monday in 48th District Court.

Police Chief Don Studt said he wasnt aware that Braylon was connected with the group until Monday afternoon, when he received a call from NFL News asking for a comment.

Studt said he also was told that Edwards had tweeted about the fight. On Monday, Edwards tweeted that someone had stolen his phone and hacked into his Twitter account.

If he did tweet about the incident, that wasnt too smart, Studt said.

Edwards is a former player at the University of Michigan. He played with the New York Jets last year and is now a free agent.

Studt also said he wants to sit down with the South Bar management team to discuss the growing number of fights being reported."

sure there is always a chance because like my grandpappy said you never know what life is going to bring so you should always dance with the girl who brung you

more fun facts about braylon's hijinks... deadspin not my usual go to source for NFL-related info... i don't agree with "scouting" info at end (he is physical, at least in run game, can catch over middle, drops reduced in 2010)... but a summation of previous issues (not all legal, or even football in some cases, but speaking to lacking in important intangibles, such as maturity, professionalism, accountability, etc.)...

* not bashing him, i think he has talent, but appalled by the self-inflicted stupidity this week (putting himself in bad position, tweeting, etc., instead of doing everything in his power and control to prepare for team visits)...

legal standing plot thickens (it is actually congealing)... IF true, edwards may be appearing in the sequel with jim carrey and jeff daniels... dumber and dumbest... the tweet admittedly wasn't MENSA material...

More trouble for Braylon Edwards

Birmingham bar claims NFL star directly involved in fight

9:11 AM, Aug. 3, 2011

Jalen Rose was a gentleman.

Braylon Edwards was not.

New information about the Aug. 1 bar fight at South Bar in downtown Birmingham indicates Edwards was more involved in the incident than originally reported. The star NFL receiver was at the bar with his two cousins in the early morning hours when an argument turned into a brawl that resulted in one bouncer being stabbed in the neck with a fork and a second bouncer being stabbed in the hand with a pocket knife.

Neither bouncer was seriously injured. The two cousins are being charged with felonious assault in connection with the stabbings. As of Wednesday morning, no charges were filed against Edwards, a former University of Michigan player who played with the New York Jets last season. Birmingham police said they had no knowledge of Edwards being involved in the fight, mainly because they were too busy at the time trying to break up the melee.

“The officers were taking the suspects into custody and by the time they returned to the bar to get statements, everyone was gone,” Police Cmdr. Terry Kiernan said Wednesday. “As time went on, we started hearing other people were involved in this.”

Kiernan also said police might arrest a third person who was connected to the original fight that resulted in the stabbings.

A statement released by the bar Tuesday makes it clear that Edwards was directly involved in the fight.

According to the prepared statement, “Braylon Edwards was present and involved, but it’s an ongoing police investigation so at this time we don’t have any further information."

Tre Lenard Wright, 19, of Detroit, is being charged with one count of felonious assault and a second count of resisting arrest. His older brother, Edmund Jerrell

Wright, 22, of Lathrup Village, is being charged with one count of felonious assault. Both men were arraigned Monday in 48th District Court, entering not guilty pleas.

Privately, employees at South Bar said Edwards was spurring on his cousins rather than trying to get them to stop fighting. They also said former NBA star Jalen Rose was at the bar and tried to break up the ruckus. Police say several Detroit Tigers players were also at the bar with a different group of people and not involved in the fight.

“Jalen was a true gentleman,” one employee said. “He saw what was going on and he walked right up and tried to stop it.”

Both athletes are dealing with their own share of troubles. Edwards, 28, is already on probation for a drunken driving conviction out of New York City. Rose, meanwhile, reported Tuesday to Oakland County Jail to serve 20 days for a drunken driving arrest out of West Bloomfield.

Given these new troubles with the law, I doubt MN will want him. I think the Moss fiasco may have soured them on troubled WRs for a while. I also doubt that Shanny would want him in WA. It won't help his chances of going to AZ either, but I could definitely see him playing for Oakland.

to answer the original question, yes, there is a chance.

A statistically insignificant chance that he will, but hey, there is a chance
