Breaking Bad on AMC (10 Viewers)

At the end, did Hank say that was Gus's fingerprints or one of Gus's friends? I kept watching that scene and it seemed like it was mumbled. Thought first it was Gus's fingerprints (which doesn't seem crazy since he owns the place) then it sounded like Hank said Gus's friend. Which friend?
Gus' fingerprints were in Gale's apartment
Ah got it. Thanks.
He said "Gus Fring". I can see how "Fring" sounds like "friend". I've gotten in the habit of watching TV with captions, not sure if that makes me senile but helps in situations like these.

After thinking about it further, the yes/no question has to be about giving Walt up. Two things that I think are very interesting regarding this: 1. We don't know what Gus's answer is. The Cartel guy leaves and we don't know what else was said. Second, earlier in the episode Mike tells Walt that "Pinkman says he needs you" or something to that degree, which surprised Walt. It seems lost on him that the roles have changed - now he's the one slaving in the lab to get things done while Jessie is out handling a number of other roles for Gus/Mike. It would be fairly pivotal if Gus got to the point of telling Jessie that they are going to let the Cartel kill Walt as it makes things smoother for everyone, but he (Jessie) is safe and will be the head-cook afterwards. That would certainly turn things upside down.

I thought the question was definitely about giving up Walt....as for Jesse, Vince Gilligan has mentioned that this season is about "the student becoming the master". Seems like we're heading in that direction.

I thought the show was going to end with either Walt's salvation and Jessie's destruction or (more likely) the opposite: Walt going down in a hail of bullets while Jessie gets out/away. Now I'm not so sure...

That's what I thought I had heard when I went back to watch that scene again then thought Gus's friend? That doesn't make sense, how does he know it was Gus's friend or not w/o giving a name?

Why doesn't the cartel just kill Walt then? It's got to be something else IMO.

Put a few people outside laundry company, wouldn't be tough. Doesn't seem like a difficult task for a large cartel.

I think it's bigger than Walt. I think they want to get back to being Gus' supplier and have Gus merely distribute.

Except that the "negotiator" seemed only interested in "yes or no." If they want to get back in business with Gus then it would seem there would be some items to discuss. He wasn't interested in a discussion, just yes or no. Keep in mind that aside from Tuco, Gus has the blood of other cartel folks on his hands (and they've killed some of his people). He also said that after he paid 50MM then there business would be finished for good, so they apparently still have some unfinished business to attend to. Has to be Walt.

For that matter why not just burn the freaking laundry mat company down - this would cripple Gus.

I don't think they want to hurt Gus. They want to do business with him. The hijackings were just to get his attention.

In many ways I'm actually rooting for Hank to "solve" the case.
I don't see any way that he doesn't. Gilligan is telling a great story here, but in the grand scheme of things Tuco and Gus and Mike and Saul are bit players. The show started with a silent battle between Hank and Walt over who was the man (remember Hank making fun of Walt at Hank's birthday party to the delight of friends while Wal sat there sheepishly?). Walt has risen up, Hank has been brought down a few pegs. Now Hank is getting his life back and Walt's is getting more complicated. They're going to meet again in the middle and someone is going to "win" and someone is going to "lose."

I think I floated this idea before but I think Walt eventually has something over Hank. Just spit-balling here but...How willing is Hank to bring Walt down (and ruin Skyler, Tiny Tim, and Holly) if/when he finds out that Walt is Hindenburg? Hank and Marie have directly benefited from Walt's drug money...whether they knew it or not. And even if he couldn't make it look like Hank was in on it (especially considering what Hank brought to the DEA this last episode) Walt could always threaten to tell the DEA/APD that Marie knew.

Right. And what side would Hank choose? his wife or the law? he has had his ups and downs with both.

Just another strange musing but could you imagine Hank and Walt teaming up? Ala Mike and Gus?

If in fact Walt will do something that everyone will hate him for, as the creators have suggested, I suspect that somehow, Walt's little batch of ricin is going to find it's way towards Hank & Marie's house.

I partially think he's going to kill Jessie and Gus this season, leaving season 5 for the Hank/Walt showdown.

Why wouldn't they know that Walt is a meth cook? When Tuco kidnapped him at the end of season one it was to take him down to Mexico to cook meth. Even if no one south of the border knew that before Tuco was killed, surely Uncle Tio would have filled them in by now.

Don't see how that will make everyone hate him if his back is to the wall and has to protect himself and his family from getting caught. Killing his wife or son or Jessie (for no good reason) seems to me a lot worse and unforgivable.

I think Walt/Jessie takes out Gus this season and the operation moves to the car wash. Next season starts with Walt being the boss, dealing with the cartel, and then the showdown with Hank.

My questions: (though this is still the best show on TV)

1. If Gus is battling the cartel why is he still in public like he is? (at his work I mean)

2. What does Walt think he is going to accomplish if he kills Gus?

3. I think the Cartel wants not to kill Walt but to kidnap him to work for them. If they wanted to kill him why are they dicking around with Gus?

4. Walt is going to kill hank, just watch.

Not sure how likely this is, but I can envision it. Love reading the wide range of theories in this thread. The tension that results from wondering which conflicts between which characters will take precedence is proof of the show's greatness. All of the conflicts are fascinating. Walt, Jesse, Gus and Hank all have history with one another and things are being set up for all their paths to meet at some crazy intersection. As it's all going on, the guy who lurks under the surface of it all, Mike, dominates my attention when he's on the screen maybe more than any of them.If the finale of this season makes last season's look weak in comparison, I might have to  to BB as the tied with The Wire for greatest of all times.

1. If the cartel wanted Gus dead, he'd be dead. Hanging out at a fast food restaurant OR hiding in his house.2. It's a "kill or be killed" issue in Walt's mind, and in the aftermath he probably sees himself running the show again like before.3. :shrug:4. That would be quite an episode.

What I love about this show is pretty much every guess one has made has not turned out to be true so far.

For you gamers in the crowd, THIS is what Jessie was playing last night. It's out in October.

As someone who hasn't played a video game since Atari ( ) was popular, let me ask a possibly stupid question. Can't they make that Rage game in 3D? If you can wear 3D glasses to watch TV shows, you must be able to also wear them for games, right? Rage looks like it would be incredible in 3D. Even without it, I might look into it.

This episode was awesome. Great finish. Walter doesn't realize the extent that Frings operation is in trouble, without Gus at the helm I would think Walter is even bigger trouble.

I think people get tired of wearing the glasses too soon for them to practical with video gaming.

He was able to identify Walter White to the two cousins, and there's no reason for us to think the cartel doesn't take him seriously.

Walter can't be the boss. That's the whole reason he had Saul hook him up with Gus in the first place. He knows the chemistry, and nothing else.

Because of Aaron Paul who just may have a slight edge over Cranston in the acting dept IMO. In the end Walter is still a cowardly chemistry teacher inside who through various strokes of luck has managed to survive. It it wasn't for Hank, Tuco would have killed him. If it wasn't for Gus the twins would have chopped him up last year, it was it for wasn't Jesse, Mike would have whacked him. Heisenberg is one big facade he puts on, there's no way in the world I see him running this operation. I think Gus makes it through the season and deals with the cartel in a most violent fashion. And for some reason I can't shake the feeling that at some point next year Walters cancer is gonna come back with a vengeance. I bet the cancer kills him in the end. Or at least drives him to do something ridiculous that gets him killed.
