I feel there must be something else, probably the return of the cancer, that's motivating him here. I don't buy it's just pride in his product and a desire for $40K just yet. If he really has a profitable business and many years ahead of him, I don't buy him jumping back in with both feet.

If he retires from cooking he'd spend the rest of his life working for Skyler at the car wash. He'd hate working for her even more than he hated working for Bogdan. Besides, he killed Gus. He took out the Terminator. If he can do that, what can't he do?

Just putting this out there for anyone that watches spoilers / reads about spoilers / has Vince Gilligan as a regular customer buying milk at the Cumberland Farms that you work graveyard shift at - now I'm not saying this information was gleaned from any of the aforementioned, but now that the last season is being shown I wanted to get this out there for all of the spoiler fans:

Do not discuss anything in this thread that has been revealed by a "spoiler".

I'd even go so far as to say start up a BREAKING BAD SPOILER thread to discuss all this stuff if you want - when people use spoiler tags in thread you get people respond with spoiler tags and you always get that knucklehead that doesn't know how to use spoiler tags and just starts discussing the information openly. I know I'm not alone here in that there are at least a few people in this thread that enjoy watching the show week-to-week without any insider information and try to avoid any and all spoiler information even if it means not watching anything on AMC until after BB is shown ending that week.

I'm with JoJo on this. I avoid the previews and spoilers as much as I can. This has been a great thread and it would be a shame to chase off any of the guys who want to participate in it.

I agree. Speculation is great and a big part of what makes this a fun thread. It's speculating based on previews or other spoilers that we're trying to avoid. If you think Hank is going to catch Walt because of something we've seen on the show, by all means post it. But if you think Hank is going to catch Walt because of something in the previews, or something you read in an inteview with the cast or producers, we're asking you to put it in spoiler tags.

Previews and cast interviews are not even remotely close to comparable.

H-town typically refers to Hartford, Connecticut, but that's not where she's from.She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, grew up in Henderson, Nevada, attended college in Huntsville, Alabama, then lived in Huntington Beach, California for a while. Her current residence is unknown.

I was thinking California from the get-go, based on the Paris Hilton looking shades and what she was ordering at the diner...chamomile tea, something inaudible to me that sounded very artisan, soy milk instead of dairy, stevia (and the fact that she carried her own)...It all came across as So Cal rich-trendy-snobbish...Could H town = Hollywood?eta: I dont know what the Geto Boys reference was, or if/how "H-town" even ties into the episode, Im only making this assumption based on someone in this thread mentioning H-Town....that said, when she started ordering at the diner I instantly thought she was from (or living in) Southern California, but I was actually thinking more Beverly Hills or Malibu or somewhere like that...seems cafes out there would have all that crap she was ordering...but her house seemed to have a NM feel and look to it.

All because someone casually dropped "H-Town" Also, all the SoCal stereotype stuff you mentioned would fit in perfectly just up the road from ABQ in Santa Fe.

I still don't understand the Lydia situation, i understand she bought the chemicals and such for Gus' operation, but what is going to make her not want to kill Mike and the rest of his guys still with threats of them talking to the DEA. The DEA would have to know someone else higher up is involved in the Heisenburg/Gus case when they see Chow and Sean? dead at Chows house..i know its TV, but seems like some shotty cop work with all the happenings not being able to be linked together.

I think Mike's guys were more likely to talk where they had no money or future prospects. Happy employees (i.e., ones getting paid) will keep quiet. I think Mike realized that (even if Lydia did not offer up the money, she's probably right that someone would have talked), and is why he changed his mind on working with Walt.

I realize previews can misdirect and that is part of the problem I have in addition to obviously having any content at all revealed from future episodes. There was an entire thread dedicated to spoiler discussion for Lost and it kept the purists in the main Lost thread happy. If people are so eager to speculate based on spoilers revealed from previews by all means start up your own thread. I remember for Lost people were commenting on spoilers from either the West Coast previews or possibly even Canada (I think it was Canada and I think they released a ton of information compared to the U.S.) that were different spoilers from what was shown on the East Coast. That is when it really gets out of hand. Give them an inch and they take a mile. If you let people discuss spoilers from previews you set a precedent to discuss anything that aired on TV - like future clips that will probably get aired on shows like Late Night or Kimmel.

In reality the kid got sick from those plants right? Does Jessie know that it was the plants and not the Ricin? Refresh me a bit

Jesse knew it was Lily of the Valley plant berries that poisoned the kid, not the ricin beans ( @ that line). The doctor explained that Lily of the Valley poisonings are somewhat common with kids because the plant grows in the area and kids come across it sometimes and try the berries not knowing better. Jesse probably thinks that's what happened at this point.

So the whole Roomba shtick done by Walt was to quell the fear of Jessie of someone else possibly smoking the cig and getting poisoned?

Yes, he was tying up the loose end of "what happened to that cig anyway??"

At this point providing for his family is no longer the reason Walt does what he does, it's just the excuse he uses. He knows from his dealings with Gus how easy it is to end up on the wrong side of the kind of guy who'd kill his whole family. But it doesn't bother him because he feels invincible.

So now he needs to keep the chick alive because she MIGHT have access to precursor - but doesn't that essentially mean a death warrant for all of his other guys with so many potential loose ends? No way of knowing for sure but I can see almost an entire episode devoted ot Mike having to off all of his old trusted guys. Walt is rapidly losing and resemblance to a sympathetic character - I though it wa sparticularly disturbing the way he broke down Jesse and then used his emotions against him. Walt is really becoming a ruthless person. I am wondering if his journey parallels Gus' journey...what an awesome show.

He's worried his guys might flip since the feds have frozen all their money. He needs to get them more money and, perhaps most of all, he couldn't bring himself to orphan her daughter. By letting her live and her seeing that he's way more of a badass than she or anybody she could hire are, she can help them get the operation up and running, he can get the guys money so they don't flip, and it SHOULD all result in less bloodshed and criminal charges.

The scene with Saul saying "you don't try to win the lotto twice" brought up the issues I was feeling earlier, that Walt has an opportunity to walk away clean here and he's not taking it. I'm not sure his excuse of "Well, I owe $40,000" is enough. 40K doesn't seem like that much to have to risk everything he's risking by starting a new enterprise, buying new equipment, chemicals, buying people off (how much is this all going to cost) to take on the cartels and putting his family Back In Danger. At least, $40K doesn't seem that much when the car wash is profitable on its own (per Skyler) and he has years of healthy living ahead of him.. Hank can walk, they're probably at the tail end of those bills. Is Walt really going to go back to war over the cost of the Mustang excursion? (And how has Skyler not yet noticed the refund they were due from the dealership never materialized?)

How can you not understand? He's a criminal now. It's that simple. He doesn't want to own a car wash. He wants to be a criminal. The show is "breaking bad". Previous seasons are about the journey to "bad". This season he is just bad through and through.

The scene where Walt is creating the fake riacin cigarette while his phone conversation with Jesse plays over it is getting overlooked. That was a great scene. It was an interesting way of telling the story and another example of why this is such a great show.

I still don't understand the Lydia situation, i understand she bought the chemicals and such for Gus' operation, but what is going to make her not want to kill Mike and the rest of his guys still with threats of them talking to the DEA. The DEA would have to know someone else higher up is involved in the Heisenburg/Gus case when they see Chow and Sean? dead at Chows house..i know its TV, but seems like some shotty cop work with all the happenings not being able to be linked together.

The guys at Chow's house JUST died. Give them an episode or two. Jebus. First, they probably won't find them. Mike told Lydia "no one will find you". He's a cleaner. He could have cleaned Chow's house. Yes, Hank is going to know Mike killed the guy that was about to flip. He hasn't even been in a scene since Chow died.

Guys I forgot some of the stuff from last season. Help me out here, Jessie thought that he left the cigarette with the Ricin in the hands of the kid who smoked it and got sick. In reality the kid got sick from those plants right? Does Jessie know that it was the plants and not the Ricin? Refresh me a bit

Jesse knew it was Lily of the Valley plant berries that poisoned the kid, not the ricin beans ( @ that line). The doctor explained that Lily of the Valley poisonings are somewhat common with kids because the plant grows in the area and kids come across it sometimes and try the berries not knowing better. Jesse probably thinks that's what happened at this point.

So the whole Roomba shtick done by Walt was to quell the fear of Jessie of someone else possibly smoking the cig and getting poisoned?

Yes. I think in part it was to put it to bed for Jesse, instead of him thinking about it more... and thinking about where it could have gone, how he lost it.

Seriously.... If you want to get technical, it's aired. It's was broadcast openly so anyone could watch. Second, it's an isolated clip with no context. It's not a spoiler, it's not telling you "what's going to happen", and in most cases it's an intentional misdirection. Sure Walt has an ego. But that's not the point. The point is that when people ask "why doesn't he just go run a car wash", the simple answer is that he doesn't because he wants to be a criminal. Yes making money is a huge reason people engage in criminal activities.But at this point, he will kill, lie, manipulate, injure others and do anything possible to get his way. Yes he wants money. Yes he has an ego. But the simple fact is that he is now just a bad guy. Bad guys do bad things. He used to debate what he was doing. He used to say he just wanted a certain amount of money and then he was out. Not anymore.

I think this may be a bit of an oversimplification, and I think it is and always has been about his ego. He's very smart and wants to be the boss... something he was never able to be before, and he was largely unsuccessful in a professional context before.Also, if you recall the scene from last year, they DIDN'T say the car wash was profitable - Skyler said it was "almost profitable" when she was trying to talk him into "retirement". I think at this point, it's about power for Walt. He tasted it being under the thumb of Gus, and now having killed him is making him want to sieze that. Rmemeber the line about "just because you killed Jesse James doesn't make you Jesse James?"
