Breaking News - Terrell Owens Rushed to local hospital (1 Viewer)

So how will the NFL handle this?Their previous track record for situations like this and how they're handled ain't so hot and TO is a MAJOR NFL star.Who was that defensive cat that the Vikes drafted and then flittered around the league for awhile, before flaming out in a big way?
Demetruis Underwood

Something doesn't make sense here. You don't attempt suicide and then get released from the hospital 12 hours later. There's no way the doctors and hospital would allow him to be released if he were truly suicidal. They take on way too much liability if that occurs.Does anyone have a clue where he went after being released? If he has gone to a mental hospital, then the story makes sense. But if he's at home (or shows up for practice today), there's no way he attempted suicide last night.
I thought about this as well. Don't they usually keep the person for further evaluation?
Usually for 3 days, but who knows, maybe the Cowboys organization pulled some strings if indeed he was released and went home.

Dimitrious UnderwoodDenny Green said it didn't really matter that he washed out because the first rounder used on him was a "bonus pick".

IMO this is fishy. Think about the TO we know. Would he TELL Police he was committing suicide?? i think its some inside source hearing the wrong things.

However, if it is true....I've never seen anything like this. At all.

Kind of ironic that the thread below this one is the Shark Pool Suicide....

Anyways, there was one report that he was treated and released. There is another report that he is still hospitalized. I would tend to think it is the latter. Especially since apparently it was his publicist that was with him and called 911 (because TO tried to harm himself) and then later she stated it was not big deal, just an allergic reaction.

Depends who you are I guess. My sister-in-law (who now appears to have turned the corner on Depression) was released from the hospital within 24 hours of her 2nd unsuccessful suicide attempt within 7 months.Like everything else, its driven by health insurance. Have a baby, go home the next day. Try to kill yourself, as long as your physical vitals are strong, go check yourself out and SEEK HELP ON YOUR OWN.

There is NO way if this is true that T.O would be out of hospital. There are laws that stipulate that patients who present in this manner must be kept under observation for a period of time, sometimes even against their will.

Thanks TommyKramer for getting this out there. Also, thanks to all the members who started the other threads that were merged here. As long as it's good info, you just keep on posting it and pay no attention to the TOOLS!

He makes sure we know everything else he does in his life. :banned:

You are correct. I don't know Texas law, but if this happened in California he would not be allowed to be walking around on the street at this time. Anyone know Texas law? I hope this isn't all true about the suicide, and if it isn't true, somebody needs to lose their job and get ostracized for making up stories about suicide, not cool.

One thing that seems consistent is that there were "two" Owens. TO, the public guy with all brashness, etc and the misunderstood Terrell Owens that only those close him really knows. Honestly, given the often strange behavior reactions and over-the-top intention he brought to himself, the fact that he has some coping issues is not farfetched. did see not this coming, but I am not in the total shock of the possibility either.

Are we allowed to speculate on why TO would attempt suicide?
The reasons are certainly complex ... but enough about his youth has been brought to light in the past to offer some clues. As a teen, he was flirting with a girl who lived across the street. Her dad came out and warned off young Terrell, saying he could never date her. TO asked the dad "Why not?" -- and the dad said "Because she's your half-sister."

His dad had been living across the street for years, but had never acknowledged T.O.

Police report: Owens hospitalized after suicide attempt

DALLAS -- Flamboyant Dallas Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens attempted suicide by overdosing on pain medication, even putting two more pills into his mouth after fire rescue personnel arrived, The Associated Press reported Wednesday citing a police report.

A Dallas police report released Wednesday morning said Owens told rescue workers "that he was depressed." The report was first released by WFAA-TV.

The rescue worker "noticed that [his] prescription pain medication was empty and observed [Owens] putting two pills in his mouth,'' the police report said.

The worker attempted to pry them out with her fingers, then was told by Owens that before this incident he'd taken only five of the 40 pain pills in the bottle he'd emptied. The worker then asked Owens "if he was attempting to harm himself, at which time [he] stated, 'Yes.'"

Owens was taken to the emergency room Tuesday night. A source close to Owens told ESPN's Ed Werder early Wednesday morning that Owens was suffering an adverse reaction to painkillers taken for treatment of his fractured hand.

"This is not serious," Owens' publicist Kim Etheridge said in Wednesday's online edition of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

A report earlier Tuesday stated that Owens would practice with the team Wednesday and possibly play Sunday at Tennessee, but his availability this week and beyond is now uncertain.

Doctors treating the Dallas Cowboys receiver were trying to induce vomiting when he arrived at Baylor Medical Center, according to a television report.

Owens was brought by a fire rescue crew to the hospital, Dallas-Fort Worth television station KTVT reported, citing sources the television station did not identify. A reporter for the station later said she saw Owens being wheeled down the hall.

Calls from The Associated Press to Owens' agent, his publicist and the Cowboys were not immediately returned Tuesday night. The hospital told the AP that they do not have a patient registered by Owens' name; however, federal privacy laws allow people to block their name from being released.

No teammates or Cowboys officials were seen entering the hospital late Tuesday night.

Owens fractured the fourth metacarpal bone in the Cowboys' victory over the Washington Redskins and underwent surgery on Sept. 18. The next day, a plate was screwed in, protecting the bone so it can heal without further damage.

Cowboys coach Bill Parcells mentioned in a press conference shortly thereafter that pain medication had made Owens ill, apparently making this the second time he has had an adverse reaction. The incident that sent him to the hospital Tuesday night apparently occurred sometime after Owens took medication after catching passes at the Cowboys' facility on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, the Cowboys also practiced without tight end Jason Witten, whose wife was having a baby. Wide receiver Terry Glenn practiced, albeit with several stitches in his thumb.

"He was trying to cut some tape off his uniform," Parcells said. "He had his hand down in his pants and he missed. Fortunately he cut his hand."

With the Cowboys having had a bye last weekend, Owens could return without having missed a game. Before Tuesday's late developments, Owens said he would play Oct. 8, when he gets to face his former team, the Eagles, in Philadelphia.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

According to the ticket radio station, it is up to the hospital to determine whether they feel he stillrepresents a danger to himself. If he is considered a denger I believe 48 hours to 30 days is the limit. BTW, the reports locally conflict each other as to whether or not he is still in the hospital, but more seem to believe that he is still there than not.

So is TO released from the hospital or what? I heard he ingested 35 pills (rumor?). Man I feel awful for him. :(

This is news is so early on right now - I'm lurking here also.

I've heard his agent said it was just a allergic reaction.

Regardless of whether he tried to kill himself or not, this event is definetely going as another strike against TO as far as league managment is concerned. Yet ANOTHER distraction from the standpoint of team. Im sure the Dallas managment is already working on spin.

Personally, my guess is - contrary to popular opinion - that this is a "Brett Favre" pain killer type story. I'm not going to believe TO while wasted on drugs tell me what he was doing. Hard enough to believe him when he is sober.

Professional football players play in pain and Superstars in this league transcend their injuries. Brett Favre became addicted to pain killers while trying to play though injuries. There is a question to me how far TO would push himself to come back quicker than others.

Suicide, from the perspective of someone who is very involved in suicide awarenss campaigns, really doesn't seem likely here to me - unless its from the hatred he receives from the Phili/SF areas in general. As a professional athelete though, I'm sure TO understood the Good Guy/Bad Guy role he was painting in the media. Its simply, as he often puts it, entertainment. He does a good job marketing himself.

The agent is refering people to his publicist??

If, in fact, he did tried to commit suicide, I hope that people close to him, including the Cowboys, would make him take a leave of absence from the game and get his head on straight, no matter how important the Cowboys perceive him as a player on their team.

I hope common sense dictates here, but as we've seen time and time again in professional sports, that is not always the case.

Did they use a ouija board?
Something is fishy. Just because TO says "yes" to the question "are you trying to hut yourself" does not necessarily mean he was. Maybe he was so out of it that that is what indeed came out of his mouth but, call me skeptical for now. You've got the hand surgery, the known reactions to certain pain killers following it, and then suddenly this. Some basic questions I want answered. How did police know to go get TO in the first place? Who called the 911? TO himself? Maybe he got messed up drinking and/or doing whatever else, took some medicine, forgot he took it, took some more and then got sick and called the 911. Makes more sense to me then this out of the blue. Then again, if he's bi-polar, you never know.

The fact we are unsure if he is out of hospital or not leads me to believe he is definately still in there under observation. If he had left, someone would've seen him and this would not be a point of contention.

Wasn't there a post here that stated someone saw TO take all those pills and then immediatley stick his finger down his throat? If he was intent on doing this, that doesn't make sense.

Watch the news video that was linked earlier. A female companion called 911 and told them TO was attempting suicide.

Dallas Morning News article from April detailing much of Owens' home life as a youth:

Owens didn't know his father until he was 11. Attracted to a girl who lived across the street, Owens pursued her until the girl's father pulled him aside one day, he wrote in his 2004 autobiography, Catch This! Going Deep With the NFL's Sharpest Weapon.

"You can't be interested in her," the man said.

"Why not? I like her," Owens replied.

"That doesn't matter," the man said.

"Why?" Owens asked.

"Because that girl is your half-sister."

Owens said it took him a while to understand that the man talking to him was his father.

Does he still play against the Eagles in Week 5?
Well, physically there's no reason he shouldn't be able to, if he had his stomach pumped he should be good to go...XM sports this AM (I think it was Mike & Mike?) reported that he left the hospital early this AM. Physically he should be ok to play, but if all these latest rumors are true, nobody knows where this dude is mentally.

The woman who called 911 said he thought he was taking vitamin suppliments and he took the pain pills he was allergic to. THIS IS A MEDIA EVENT - THEY ARE JUST HYPING IT UP.

Here is what I am gathering:Original Story:T.O. and his publicist were at his house and T.O. had allergic reaction to pain killers. T.O.'s publicist called 911 and reported, "it is no big deal, just an allergic reaction".Additional facts now coming out:From the Police report, police asked T.O. if he tried to hurt himself, T.O. replied 'yes'. Policed asked a follow up question, "Did you try to commit suicide", T.O. replied 'yes'.

sorry I'm playing catch up on all this and at the same time trying to get the owers who have Terry Glenn to trade him to me before they find out about this...(though its probably too late now).

The guy is a talent and hope he gets help, but he turns every team he is on into a Soap Opera. Maybe the Cowboys are use to being in the spotlight and can deal with all this, but how can any team that is serious about competing for a Super Bowl deal with so much non football related drama?

Wow. I'm not trusting anything I hear until we get an official statement. I hope this isnt true, but it does ecplain some of those actions of his in the past where we say "how can a guy with everything continue trying to destroy his career?"

If it was his press agent who was there and called 911, she's going to start spinning at hir first opportunity. Until we hear the DPD press conference, details will be sketchy

Is his press agent a woman? I heard it directly from his publicist, who I guess was with him the day before (said he had spoken to TO the day before). He also said he had spoken to the woman who was with him, but did not specify who it was. He said exactly what I reprinted - that it was a mistake on the pills he took.

Makes sence. So he keeps a bottle of pills he's allergic to lying around.

 It's clear he's carrying unresolved issues from well before he became a professional athlete. Money, success, and fame do nothing to make all that hurt go away.
