Breaking News - Terrell Owens Rushed to local hospital (2 Viewers)

Local Dallas ESPN radio saying Etheridge, T.O.'s publicist, says it wasn't a suicide attempt, and it was just a bad reaction to the combination of his supplements and pain medication. He was groggy from the combination and didn't know what he was answering to the police questioning.

They had a Fort Worth Star Telegram reporter on air who had spoken to Etheridge. She told him it was a misunderstanding and it wasn't a suicide attempt.

The question is, is Etheridge, as T.O.'s publicist, doing her job and just trying to spin it in a positive light?

Darn. You missed out on having your name in lights. I can live with that. Posting that kind of story with no confirmation means your thread gets deleted. Again, I can live with that. I delete a lot of crap threads. Yes, this one had wheels, but it doesn't change the fact that it was an uncorroborated story. Further, there were leads (apparently erroneous ones) that indicated it wasn't true.
Second, Shick your earlier response to texasheat of "quit pissing in our pool" was uncalled for and really made me lose some respect for you.
If having a high standard means that a story was delayed for two minutes (I think it was two minutes) before there was some confirmation I guess I can live without your respect.
How about changing the title to NOT CONFIRMED. No need to delete it.
There were reports of mistaken identity. Possibly erroneous. Time will tell. We're not spreading information for the sake of entertainment like some competing sites.
Weak. You can't just admit you were wrong and apologize? :no:There were at least three Dallas area FBGs on here last night saying that we saw this report on the local news. But for some reason it's not really news unless there's a link. Then some random guy on a different board jokes that it was actually former Dallas police chief Terrell Bolton, and everybody believes him. That's the point where I just went back to bed. It's not worth the hassle.

Suicide, from the perspective of someone who is very involved in suicide awarenss campaigns, really doesn't seem likely here to me - unless its from the hatred he receives from the Phili/SF areas in general. As a professional athelete though, I'm sure TO understood the Good Guy/Bad Guy role he was painting in the media.
 It's clear he's carrying unresolved issues from well before he became a professional athlete. Money, success, and fame do nothing to make all that hurt go away.
:goodposting:

Something is fishy. Just because TO says "yes" to the question "are you trying to hut yourself" does not necessarily mean he was. Maybe he was so out of it that that is what indeed came out of his mouth but, call me skeptical for now. You've got the hand surgery, the known reactions to certain pain killers following it, and then suddenly this. Some basic questions I want answered. How did police know to go get TO in the first place? Who called the 911? TO himself? Maybe he got messed up drinking and/or doing whatever else, took some medicine, forgot he took it, took some more and then got sick and called the 911. Makes more sense to me then this out of the blue. Then again, if he's bi-polar, you never know.
Wasn't there a post here that stated someone saw TO take all those pills and then immediatley stick his finger down his throat? If he was intent on doing this, that doesn't make sense.
The woman who called 911 said he thought he was taking vitamin suppliments and he took the pain pills he was allergic to. THIS IS A MEDIA EVENT - THEY ARE JUST HYPING IT UP.
If it was his press agent who was there and called 911, she's going to start spinning at hir first opportunity. Until we hear the DPD press conference, details will be sketchy
yes, spinning while flushing down the illegal contraband....this is getting more wacky

Bi-Polar has got to be the most overused diagnosis of all-time. Maybe immaturity and need for attention should replace some of these diagnosis. I know for a fact that physicians prescribe anti-depressants medicine too freely, and as a result, they can cause more harm than good. I'm not making a comparison of TO and anti-depressants, but I am comparing those said to be Bi-Polar with anti-depressants. Whatever happened to dealing with one's own problems?

Not surprising. The Dallas Cowboys Organziation has to spin this. I'm a die hard Cowboy fan I think it's the only way to go with it.

We need to wait for the facts to come out... but come on, you guys are ready to call the police liars because his publicist spins a different story?

I'm pretty sure that TO's publicist is not employed by the Dallas Cowboys Organization

The woman who called 911 is saying it was an alergic reaction. Gee - not like the police to get it wrong.....
If the woman calling 911 was his publicist, as has been mentioned in 1 or 2 links, then its not like her to lie thinking she's protecting her client. The police report shouldn't draw any conclusions...just he said this, she said that, EMT did this and reported that, they went to Baylor. I have not yet seen the report. (EDITED to clarify - I may have left the impression that I work for DPD)It's not a stretch to believe that he has serious mental health issues that are behind this. Not a stretch to believe that he was pushing the limits of his prescription in an effort to work through the pain and overdid it. Not a stretch to believe that he mixed alcohol and the pills and had an adverse reaction. My experience, person says they were trying to harm himself, they are usually being pretty straightforward at that point. They are either completely forthcoming (almost at peace), defiant (told you I'd do it!) or scared ####less. If they lie, its a claim that they weren't trying to kill themselves rather than that they did. Some folks on here may have experiences that differ, but that's my experience w/ several suicides & attempts.Time will tell...

You have no idea what the hell you're talking about. Ever known a true bi-polar? I thought not.

Makes sence. So he keeps a bottle of pills he's allergic to lying around.
they just figured out he was allergic to them a few days ago - he did just break his hand 9 days ago.

Until everyone gets their ducks in a row, there's no other way to treat this. Its a media circus regardless, but it'll be a feeding frenzy if this is drug abuse/suicide related.

Who empties a bottle of vitamin supplements in 1 shot with 35 plus pills? And, how can a guy who regularly takes supplements mistake the pills? This is a BS cover up statement from his publicist.

Watch the news video that was linked earlier. A female companion called 911 and told them TO was attempting suicide.
Mike and Mike reported it was his press agent who was with him and called 911.
Is his press agent a woman? I heard it directly from his publicist, who I guess was with him the day before (said he had spoken to TO the day before). He also said he had spoken to the woman who was with him, but did not specify who it was. He said exactly what I reprinted - that it was a mistake on the pills he took.
Yes. And when I read T.O.'s book this is one of the people he completely trusts and respects. I am speculating here based on what I am hearing in the news and what I read in T.O.'s book:

If it is true T.O. tried to commite suicide, I would consider it likely that T.O. contacted his publicist (forget her name) just before (or during) any suicide attempt and his publicist would make a b-line to his house.

DALLAS -- Flamboyant Dallas Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens attempted suicide by overdosing on pain medication, even putting two more pills into his mouth after fire rescue personnel arrived, The Associated Press reported Wednesday citing a police report.

A Dallas police report released Wednesday morning said Owens told rescue workers "that he was depressed." The report was first released by WFAA-TV.

The rescue worker "noticed that [his] prescription pain medication was empty and observed [Owens] putting two pills in his mouth,'' the police report said.

The worker attempted to pry them out with her fingers, then was told by Owens that before this incident he'd taken only five of the 40 pain pills in the bottle he'd emptied. The worker then asked Owens "if he was attempting to harm himself, at which time [he] stated, 'Yes.'"

KTVT-TV in Dallas reported that a woman named "Etheridge", likely his publicist Kim Etheridge, called police at 7:51 p.m. to report a suicide attempt. KTVT-TV reported that Owens ingested 35 pills.

-------------------------------

Although I don't like his behavior or antics, I feel sorry for him. He grew up without a mother or father, and is a lost person. I really hope he gets mental help.

I didn't, but it does seem obvious. Everyone is quick to call someone Bi-Polar, when maybe just growing up is in order. I'm not saying TO isn't Bi-Polar, but just making an observation of the masses.

Not surprising. The Dallas Cowboys Organziation has to spin this. I'm a die hard Cowboy fan I think it's the only way to go with it.
Why would the Cowboys need to spin this?
Made a big play for a troubled superstar with a history of wrecking team chemistry, and if he finally implodes on their watch? That decision has been questioned since it was made and this makes it worse.

When almost every team was either refusing to consider Owens or only offering an incentive-laden one, Jerry Jones came forward with a huge contract offer. Many, many fans were shocked. If this backfires in this way, it would go down in history as the worst move by a team ever. If he only had an accidental reaction, all is well.

actually if you think about his frequent outbursts and mental state this isn't too surprising. I'd be very surprised if he put anything into his body that wasn't exactly what he wanted.

How much attention do people need in life?

Put the dude in a white jacket that buttons in the back and toss him in a padded room and be done with him.

Damage control for what? Let's assume he did attempt suicide. What do the Cowboys gain by covering that up?

Being a mental health professional who does crisis evaluations with an emergency room, it sounds to me that TO did attempt suicide. He most likely will be held psychiatricly once he is medically stable unless the professionals believe his story. Generally is such an instance in MN a person would be held for 72 court hours for observation/stabilization.

I've not had a chance to read all the pages in this thread but who trys to kill themselves with pills with someone else in the room? If she was present, this is not a suicide attempt. This is a cry for help/attention.

Even though the pills were proscribed, does this make TO subject to the league's substance abuse policy?
I'm no expert on the matter, but I'd think not. I'd guess you'd go with "the spirit of the rule" -- it's not like TO was abusing drugs for either recreation or performance enhancement. But, I'm just guessing here....

Taking 35 pain killing pills when you're supposed to take one or two is a pretty serious cry for help.
