Breaking News - Terrell Owens Rushed to local hospital (1 Viewer)

Chances are if this was truly a suicide attempt, TO will have worn out his welcome in Big D as well as the rest of the league until he proves that he has gotten the help he seems to desperately need.
He turns 33 in December, his career is most likely over. And that is the best thing for him - retire and get out of the spotlight and set your house in order.

I've not had a chance to read all the pages in this thread but who trys to kill themselves with pills with someone else in the room? If she was present, this is not a suicide attempt. This is a cry for help/attention.
I have been following this angle with great interest because I think it would be very telling. However, I have found no confirmation Etheridge (sp??) was with T.O. or not. All I have found is she is the one who called the police at 7:42ish PM. She could have made the call from anywhere in the country if T.O. had called her and told her of his intent (Cry for help).
Maybe I heard incorrectly, but I tought the women who called 911 was with TO and it was believe to be his publicist, Kim Etheridge.
I am sure Ehteridge was eventually with T.O., but my question is when. If she was with T.O. prior to the cops arriving, she would be considered a witness of some importance and her name would most definitely be in the police report one way or another (I saw him take 35 pills or I saw him take 2 pills). The way I see it now, her name is not in the police report so I want to suspect she arrived on the scenes after the police did.

For those of you who have not dialed up the ticket (theticket.com) their Cowboys beat reporter is about to report from the training facility
My stream died. What did he say.
bumpstream is slammed. GDB this.
I just got mine to laod...they're talking about how there's no real league precident for how the Cowboys and the league should handle this....speculating on his contract and what comes next...no real developments to what we already know.

All speculation and conjecture aside, I think it’s very important to remember that Terrell Owens is a person. He’s a brash, confident, cocky, and arrogant person, but at the end of the day he’s still a human being and still succumbs to the same issues and problems we all deal with, regardless of celebrity or status. He grew up in what was at the very least a ‘troubled’ home, in a broken family, under trying conditions. I have no doubt that if he honestly attempted suicide that he is going through very real and troubling times in his life and needs help, help that this will hopefully provide. All of my best wishes are with him and his family, as should everyone’s – putting aside how they feel about Owens as an athlete or personality – because no-one deserves to go through this.

People are complete scum when it comes to stuff like this.

Athletes are people too, everyone needs to remember that. No matter how much money you make, how many cars you have, what kind of house you live in, how many touchdown catches you have, there are lots of things that go on off the field that nobody has any remote clue about. So if this report is indeed true, which im not really sure what is true and false about this, but if it is true, i hope TO gets the help he needs. Anyone who has had mental issues or dealt with someone who has them knows its not something to joke around with

My stream just died, I had it alive for 5 or 10 minutes. To summerize:

-- no offical word from the cowboys, they're still trying to collect info

-- Parcells will have a PC today

-- call went in to 911 at 7.51pm, this happened "much earlier" than the story broke

-- conflicting reports on whether or not he's been released from hospital

-- speculation he may have been released from hospital and taken to a different medical center (possibly a place for 'mental evaluation')

I call it like i see it. The league profits from idiots like T.O. all the time, and never looks at the root cause. They just ride them as long as they can.

What happened with T.O.? he gets booted from Philly for acting like a lunatic, and he gets rewarded with a bigger contract from that idiot Jerry Jones. Now T.O. does something only a lunatic would do, and everyone is surprised.

T.O. is mentally sick, so he gets a pass, what is the NFL's excuse for ignoring blaring signs of lunacy. If any of us acted as crazy as T.O. did over the past few years, we would have surely been sent to a doctor for evaluation by our employer (or fired).

I just hope he recovers and if this is truly a suicide attempt he gets the help he needs. Playing football should be the last thing on his or his family's mind.

I know you don't want people pissing in the pool, but why not let people be shown for what they really are?And if it happens to be someone using an alt, go ahead and expose them. We know you're damn good at that.

Holy Crap!!   I have been on kid duty this morning, watching Sesame Street et al, and I turned over to ESPN news and see...

Police: Terrell Owens attempts suicide.

My first move, other than to breathe, was to come here and get the scoop. What's the scoop? How did it happen? Is he OK? Fill me in people, give me the long and short of it. I really don't want to go thru all 650+ posts. :o

I'm still glued to ESPN News, but they've got nothing on it right now.

Jeez, between.....

- Chris Simms' life-threatening on field injury

- T.O. apparently attempting to commit suicide

- Peter King's weekly depressing/scary updates on Sgt McGuire on his MMQB article

.....we're getting a bit too much reality mixed in with our sports entertainment. Sobering reminders of what really matters.

Sorry to get deep but that was my first thought when I read about this story.

Kill this if Honda but from KFFL

Owens Reportedly Attempts Suicide

ESPN.com reports Dallas Cowboys WR Terrell Owens attempted suicide by overdosing on pain medication, even putting two more pills into his mouth after fire rescue personnel arrived, The Associated Press reported Wednesday, Sept. 27, citing a police report. The Dallas police report said Owens told rescue workers "that he was depressed." The report was first released by WFAA-TV. Owens was taken to the emergency room Tuesday night, Sept. 26. A source close to Owens had told ESPN's Ed Werder early Wednesday morning that Owens was suffering an adverse reaction to painkillers taken for treatment of his fractured hand. "This is not serious," Owens' publicist Kim Etheridge said in Wednesday's online edition of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

If the guy is depressed to this point - I feel for him and I think all of us should hope that he receives the help he needs. If it was an accidental overdose and the above isn't true......shame on the press.

ACP post #631 is a good summary

Colin Cowherd on ESPN radio just stated that 70% of the responses he is getting on this from listeners is it is another TO stunt.

Sobering reminders of what really matters.
You mean they're not just puppets out there for our own entertainment who we can mock, ridicule, despise, insult, jeer at and humiliate without remorse or impacting their personal lives? Something to consider, perhaps, for the media and the most vocal haters.

Exactly right. The warning signs have been going off for years, but it was just "TO being TO". Everyone knew he was off his rocker, but he catches footballs and scores touchdowns, and is one of the best at it, so the league and teams decided not to see the problems, just collect on selling his jerseys and attempt to win super bowls with him. For these reasons I feel sorry for TO, he's been asking for help for years in his own way, but everyone chose to ignore it for their own reasons and personal gain. So shame on them.

Some basic questions I want answered.

How did police know to go get TO in the first place? Who called the 911? TO himself? Maybe he got messed up drinking and/or doing whatever else, took some medicine, forgot he took it, took some more and then got sick and called the 911. Makes more sense to me then this out of the blue. Then again, if he's bi-polar, you never know.
There's a link in this thread to the tv news report that discusses some of this.
Bi-Polar has got to be the most overused diagnosis of all-time. Maybe immaturity and need for attention should replace some of these diagnosis. I know for a fact that physicians prescribe anti-depressants medicine too freely, and as a result, they can cause more harm than good. I'm not making a comparison of TO and anti-depressants, but I am comparing those said to be Bi-Polar with anti-depressants. Whatever happened to dealing with one's own problems?
I highly doubt that TO is bipolar, but I really hope youre not equating bipolar disorder with immaturity. Bipolar disorder is very real, and cannot be dealt with on one's own. You are grossly misinformed if thats the case.
Of course I'm not equating Bi-Polar with immaturity, but I am saying that a lot of folks are quick to diagnose someone as Bi-Polar, when in fact maybe they just need to grow up. I'm not diagnosing TO either. Society is quick to label someone as depressed and throw pills at the problem, instead of raising their children to deal with their problems.

Doesn't really shock me.People, when allowed to be anonymous, are pretty inhumane. We've seen a lot of it on here today.Notice how none of the "established" posters are reacting with vicious comments. People will do a lot of idiotic things when they can't be traced.

I am tempted to ring his publicist as I still have her numbers in my book when we were trying to do an interview in July for the book. I am sure she won't answer though and not sure what real information if any I'd get obviously.

Chris

I am going to wait for an official announcement before forming my opinion.

If he tried to kill himself his career is likely over.

Herd also added that the majority of his listerners are usually right.Herd did indicate he doesn't agree in this case with the majority of listeners.(I'm just reporting on what Herd stated)

I remember picking up TO as a "deep sleeper" pick in my fantasy league years ago. He was the #2 WR behind Rice back then. I was so happy to have him. Seems like so long ago now. :(

And Colin likes to shock people. But, that, to me...without proof, is way over the line, even for him.

Wow. I didn't see this coming. I am not sure what to think, honestly. If it is true, he needs to stop playing football and get the help he obviously needs.

cops: i want to make sure the information i give you is correct, and that information is ...... nothing.

:D

Not taking any questions afterwards....

Here are some quotes....

"a little before 8, officers respond, requested by paramedics.... paramedics told police they needed to proceed to hospital....at that time determined not a criminal offense, a medical situation occurring....info released prior to this statement....official statement, no other investigation going on at this time, any more info contact TO's people or Cowboys medical staff....not confirming anything when asked about pill taking...why are police requested? not going on about this....it is not a criminal offense."

Rick Watson of the Dallas Police was just asked if it "was an attempted suicide?", and he replied, "it was not a criminal offense"

Clarence Hill of the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram reports that Terrell Owens' publicist Kim Etheridge claims T.O. was not trying to harm himself.

Speaking on ESPN's Cold Pizza, Hill says that Owens didn't have his stomach pumped and didn't vomit. Etheridge doesn't believe Owens took 35 pills, as alluded to in the Dallas police report. Owens is reportedly out of the hospital already. The Cowboys will hold a news conference later Wednesday.

That doesn't mean anything. It's just the police trying to make sure their point is made clear, and that's all they were going to say.He was asked again about the suicide, and he said, "I'm not confirming anything".
