Breaking News - Terrell Owens Rushed to local hospital (1 Viewer)

I'm shocked.I'm somewhat speechless however I read that he was doing this while his friend was in the room where he was at...if your going to kill yourself I would think there are easier ways.I remember TO doing an interview when he wss still with the 49ers...it was a MNF game where he was talking to Jim Grey. He was very frank about how he didn't even like football all that much. Maybe that was a sign that he feels trapped in football. Even though he's physically gifted and great as a WR...maybe he truly doesn't like playing the sports and he thought this was a way out.We don't have all the facts yet and I want to learn more b4 making a true opinion.
TO is doing this for attention. If he really wanted to kill himself, there are much more efficient ways of doing so.
Sure, there are more efficient ways, but pill taking has to be the easiest to pull off. Could you pull the trigger of a gun on yourself? Could you take that leap off the bridge?

I don't think suicide attempt is a criminal offense. I've known of some people that tried to take their lives and not once did I ever hear about criminal charges being filed.
Nonprosecution is not evidence that its not a crime, but I think I need to edit my post above. I'm a doctor not a lawyer and now that I am thinking about it, the police are usually asking about illegal drugs or whether someone aided the person in the act.

Oh god, he's going to make the talk show circuit again, isn't he???

And we get to hear more from Drew Rosehaus!!! Oh good!!!

Multiple bannings are probably in order as well but probably won't happen. Too bad. I'm as anti-Owens as anyone but death isn't funny, to include attempted suicide, but not surprising that a number of people on here would disagree.
For the first (and probably last) time in my life, BigRed gets a :goodposting:
Amazing the things that bring us together, isnt it?

I dont think we can bash the NFL for this. I'm certain they'd rather have 1400+ players that were all great people, but the bottom line is that many athletes are simply far from that and it wont change. They have to put butts in seats and unless its gross misconduct there isnt much they can do. If we only allowed intelligent, likeable, well-adjusted people in professional sports the NBA wouldnt even exist. They can't hurt teams and the league and fans by denying a man the right to ply his trade without just cause, they cant fight lawsuit after lawsuit because of it either. We want to see the most exciting product they can provide, and most of those players arent straight A students with great families and nurturing backgrounds. Would WE play fantasy football or spend Sunday and monday glued to TV, radio and computer screen if we had to thrill to the exploits of William Chadsworth III who plays football when not caring for cancer patients? I doubt it.To this point T.O. has been a problem child because of his attitude. He's never been violent, never done drugs that we know of, doesnt have an alcohol problem, and gives you 100% when he's out on the field. He's made some poor judgement calls with coaches teammates, media, agents and so forth. I dont think he's ever comprehended that there was even another way. To find that he has other mental problems just makes it more clear.
No, we can't blame the NFL, they're only a multi-billion dollar business that throws away people like we throw away our leftovers. (See Romanowski Interview) Yes the focus is to put us in the seats, to entertain us, but it is all for profit. Don't kid yourself and think anything other than money is the main focus, yes, the players well-being is one of their thoughts, but it's a couple priorities down the list. It never surprises me what a corporate entity (made up of people) will do to make a profit. I will continue to enable the process by watching the NFL games I love.

I'm somewhat speechless however I read that he was doing this while his friend was in the room where he was at...if your going to kill yourself I would think there are easier ways.
Yeah, maybe he wasn't trying to kill himself at all, and this story is just another example of the TO amplification factor in the media. But if it's true, most suicide attempts are cry's for help. If you're serious about suicide, there's no "attempt" about it. Methinks there is more to the story.
I wish Reggie White were still alive, you know he could reach out to TO and maybe give him some support through his ministry. I hate to think that his buddy Michael Irvin is going to be his support through this...Irvin has his own problems and while I do love Irvin on a lot of levels...he's not the guy I really want to help TO out in a situation like this. Irwin is a drug user, there are no 2 ways about it, and I don't think TO uses narcotics much but he doesn't need Irvin in his ear the whole time.Deion Sanders is going to reach out to TO as well. Owens burned the bridges when he left SF and Philly so I doubt anyone there has much sympathy for him...although McNabb is one of the classiest guys in the NFL...it wouldn't surprise me if he maybe tried to help TO a little behind the scenes...I know Philly hates him but it would explain some of the crap he has pulled over the past few seasons. And JohnnyU...you should really not dismiss BiPolar...TO is one of how many athletes we are talking about that could have this. It is not overused, in fact very few NFL athletes are ever diagnosed with it and I think you should maybe be a little more open minded about it. The board hasn't had the pleasure of competing with you in FF...I know where you're coming from but a lot of the board might not JU.

If he tried to kill himself his career is likely over.
Why is that? If I tried to kill myself, would that mean I'd never go back to work?
Agreed. Of course you or TO should be able to go back to work. That being said, think about the reactions from some of the annonymous knuckleheads here in a potential attempted suicide thread. If you think they're off the wall, can you imagine the smack talk to be doled out on the field by some of the finer examples of society out should TO return?

:X

Am I in left field with these questions?

1) Snopes has the police report and there is no mention of Kim Etheridge in the police report. Does this mean Kim Etheridge was not at the scene prior to fire & rescue and police personnel?

2) If Kim Etheridge was not at the scene prior to fire & rescue and police personnel, who called 911 and why?

I am sorry but I cannot feel sorry for TO. The guy makes millions of dollars and if he is dumb enough to throw that all away, then that is his fault. But like I said, he is doing this for attention and it is working. Look at all the attention he is getting now, from us, fans, the media, etc...

Guys if this story of attempted suicide is true, the cowboys have to put him on the PUP list to get treatment for at least a month or two.

Well, if you pull the trigger on a gun or jump off the bridge the person sitting in the room with you won't be able to save you by calling 911 like when you take pills. If you really mean to kill yourself by taking pills you simply do it alone. As for the easiest way to commit suicide that's got to be sitting in a running car in the garage. You will simply fall asleep and never wake up but the bad thing about this form is you might kill everyone in the house, but I digress.

Doesn't really shock me.People, when allowed to be anonymous, are pretty inhumane. We've seen a lot of it on here today.Notice how none of the "established" posters are reacting with vicious comments. People will do a lot of idiotic things when they can't be traced.
Don't kid yourself, some of us don't care about anonymity. We're not cruel people, you just don't understand the true hatred that exists between the Eagles & Cowboys.
Ah, so you're a nice guy, except when it comes to something as meaningless as a football rivalry?Fantastic.
Check the history books, competitive sports is the lifeblood of many cultures, if you disagree, ask anyone who loves Soccer, for that matter, ask any Irish or Scottish immigrant. You think those of us who are Eagles fans hate our rivals, you haven't seen anything until you've been to a game in the UK. Is it right? And if not, who are you to judge?

Just woke up from a very late night and all I can say is :o

I somehow wish it could really just go back to being Terrell Bolton now. :(

All things considered, I wouldnt consider it an unfair trade. Fame, fortune, a chance at immortality for a kid that came from nothing - in exchange for a possibility of being on pain meds and knee replacements for the next 50 years? The NFL isnt making widgets here, what do you expect them to do? What business isnt about money? While those people produce, they are guaranteed millions. Once they arent physically capable of doing so, attrition occurs. What major corporation would think twice of letting YOU go when you were too expensive in comparison to your production? Its as much our fault for craving their product and forgiving these guys who thrill us on the field and make us 300 bucks in a fantasy league.

Mental and/or psychological problems do not go away just because you have lots of money. Congratulations on putting your ignorance on display for everyone to see.

This has got to be the dumbest thing I've heard in a long time. You are really open minded arent you? TO has lots and lots of money, therefore he is unable to have personal issues or even worse DEPRESSION. Give me a break, you don't have a clue. Do everyone a favor and keep your opinions in your pea brain.

Publicist denies T.O. suicide reportBy MAC ENGEL and CLARENCE E. HILL JR.

DALLAS -- Terrell Owens' publicist is vehemently dening a report that the Cowboys receiver tried to commit suicide Tuesday night.

Owens was depressed and may have taken as many as 35 prescription pain pills, according to a police report, which listed the event as an attempted suicide.

Kim Etheridge, Owens' publicist, was described in the report as "a woman companion" who said she observed him putting two pills in his mouth."

She said Wednesday morning that Owens had an allergic reaction to taking pain medication and supplements.

She said he did not intentionally try to harm himself.

Lt. Rick Watson, a Dallas police spokesman, said at a media briefing Wednesday morning that "a medical situation" had occurred and that there is no investigation.

He declined to answer questions or to verify the accuracy of the police report, although he did pass out redacted copies.

"This is a high-profile person," Watson said. "We looked into it and determined that there was not a criminal offense in this incident."

"We would do it the exact same way" no matter who was involved, he said.

Etheridge said Owens "is fine."

"He will be leaving the hospital today," she said.

Owens is being treated at Baylor University Medical Center.

Etheredge disputes the claim in the report because she said Owens was groggy at the time he was being questioned.

According to the police narrative, the woman said the prescription of 40 pills was filled on September 18 and, until Tuesday, Owens had taken only five pills.

The police report said Owens was asked if he had taken the rest of the prescription. Owens said, "Yes."

According to the report, police also asked if he was trying to harm himself. Owens answered, "Yes."

That Owens was groggy and lethargic was the reason Etheredge called 911 in the first place.

Etheridge said Owens was in pain stemming from the fractured right hand, suffered against Washington two weeks ago.

He underwent surgery to have a plate and three pins placed in the hand last Monday.

Cowboys coach Bill Parcells said at the time that Owens was having a bad reaction to the pain medication.

Etheridge said Owens experienced more pain and discomfort on Tuesday.

He took some pain pills and did some "microcurrent" treatment.

She said he also took some supplements and "it kicked in a reaction."

"When I went to grab him, he was out of it," Etheridge said. "That’s why I called 911."

Etheridge said Owens did not have his stomach pumped at the hospital and did not vomit.

A few things stand out to me. 1) TO is still in the hospital. 2) He reportedly didn't throw up/have stomach pumped. 3) He apperantly was lethargic when answering the questions. 4) we have no answer about the number of pills he might have taken. 5) The reporter, Mac Engel, often has a hard bone to pick with the Cowboys. I'm not sure what kind of bias he might bring to the reporting.

I'm sure there's a LOT more to come.

EDIT: I'll also add that the lack of further police action would reduce the likelihood of suicide. If its a drug interaction, no police action necessary. If suicide, it probably would be involved...

seriouslydon't get this lockedpleaseok there is a percentage of the people out there who won't feel sorry for him. Fine, we get it, you won't earn any points by posting it and are likely to piss off/offend someone. I'll guarantee someone on this board has been touched by a person who has committed suicide, try having compassion for them.so if you hate TO and don't want him to live just sit there and be quiet so we can keep this thread going

Unless she didn't make the call....

If this really WAS a suicide attempt, the worse thing Owens could do now is to try and deny it and spin it to make the public believe it wasn't. If it was a suicide attempt, he needs help, and needs to focus on that, instead of worrying about spinning this to the public.
