Breaking News - Terrell Owens Rushed to local hospital (1 Viewer)

Will they release information from the hospital about what they did? For example, if they deny he had his stomache pumped or something like that, then we could be sure he didn't exactly pop 35 pills, right? Also, I think they are probably the only source we can trust, anyway. Who knows what happened at the scene, I'm sure it was hectic, to say the least. You can never really trust the "victim" whether it's TO or not. And, you sure as heck cannot trust the media.I think hospital reports could be the most telling bit of information, if it officially comes out.
No way. HIPAA laws would prevent that.
I'm assuming that is some sort of Privacy Act, and yeah, I relalize that, but he could permit it, right?
Not sure. I doubt that he would.
Uhh... If it proves he didn't take 35 pills, why wouldn't he?

Should I be surprised that Terrell Owens' publicist, Kim Etheredge, doesn't have enough public relations sense to take the gum out of her mouth before addressing the media at a press conference?
She obviously didnt have enough horse sense to realize an empty bottle of pain killers doesnt mean you slammed them all. Especially as a PR rep it might have occurred to her to see if his symptoms more closely meshed with a guy looped up on pain killers or a guy about to go into a coma from a sever overdose. Ok, its one thing to err on the side of caution, but to suggest to the cops (not the doctors mind you) that he was depressed... what kind of PR rep does THAT? Kinda suggests she might not be the sharpest bulb in the shed.
"Sharpest bulb in the shed" --- what does that even mean??????
It's not rocket surgery.

here is a questiondo the cowboys have any right to see the hospital reports?obviously they have some rights in regards to knowing a players physical health, how about his mental?

Some people... You can beat a dead horse, but you can't make it drink.

if it was really a suicide attempt, would a hospital release the guy 12 hours later?

:fishing:
Exactly, if all the initial reports were true how is this guy released, back at work, etc., instead of in a bed with an IV and a Psychiatrist, etc.
Better question: if this guy took 35 pain killers less than 24 hours ago would he be playing football or curled up sobbing in a hospital bed with the worlds worst hangover? If he were lucky...

Does state law even apply to the Cowboys in Texas? I thought they enjoyed some immunity similar to the Knights Templar or the Kennedys.

John Clayton: "He's getting ready for a football game which is surprising considering how much trouble he caused last night......"is ESPN really going to try to blame TO for this???? seriously????bostonfred, i'm sorry i ever doubted you.
Apology accepted.

Do we have any video of the Etheredge presser? I missed that one and I'm curious now what she looks like.
Something we should keep in mind when evaluating the appearance of people in this story (I saw some jokes about Irvin's eyes too) is that most of them were up much or all of the night. TO practicing and catching passes today was pretty much a stunt to show he was fine, but it couldn't have been a pleasant time from last night through today for any them, and I'm sure they are all mentally and physically whipped.

Mixed Chicks Love Leave in Conditioner?

WTH? :P LMAO

That's one of the best advertisements EVER!

What could we come up w/ for fantasy Football??

True, but most women I know would at least brush their hair before sitting in front of a bunch of TV cameras.

Etheredge is half of an idiot, but she knew enough to call the police when TO obviously didn't feel well. She did the right thing.

As for the man himself, TO was self-effacing, courteous, and said exactly the right things. He is also an ASTONISHINGLY good actor if he really tried to kill himself. My favorite answer was when he smiled and explained that he was not, in fact, depressed.

ESPN's credibility is all but gone. Professor Clayton is a tool of mindboggling proportions.

LOL at all the people who still think this was a suicide attempt based on some obviously inexperienced cop's notes and TO's incoherent mumblings - - as we know, all people who drown themselves in Vike and other painkillers are regularly out running routes and catching passes from QBs the next day.

One major value point of this thread: learning who really knows what they're talking about around here, and bolstering my ignore list with some strong members thereof. I thought there were some really solid contributions - - joffer, BankerGuy, and willowdoc stand out. Thanks to those guys and everyone else who showed some sanity on an interesting day.

. . . and (apparently) take the gum out of their mouth, especially when they're held out as someone's "publicist".

His publicist is full of crap...Yeah the Police lied..Yah right..She made a fool out of herself...The police report is public information, would like to see the press get ahold of that..
I don't suppose they mentioned WHAT he took in combination with what supplements, so that someone could say whether that type of reaction is possible. Nah, that would make too much sense. Not saying they're lying for sure, but I certainly am not going to completely dismiss the thought. Sounds like they're giving just enough information to refute one version of the story without giving enough information to present a refutable alternative.
Those "mega-vitamins" with huge amounts of Vitamin C and other anti-oxidents can effect your reaction with other medications. They effect the oxygen levels in the bloodstream which in turn effects how your body absorbs chemicals.
Good point BG, knowing that he took Hydrocodone which in it self will knock out a mule, explains it.

Exactly. esp. if they are a publicist by profession. The way I found her picture is I did a search on her to see if I could figure out her p.r. credentials. You'd think it would be pretty easy to turn up something like that when your in p.r., but the mixed chicks hair comdition er is all i found except various quotes by her speaking about owens.

LMAO if, in order to refute the suicide attempt charge, it comes out that he's using a banned substance.

Based on the info that was out prior to the press conference...how would have you reported this story? Also, if you think TO didn't wasn't out of it last night since he was able to catch passes today then do you think last night was some sort of whacked publicity stunt?

What made it so obvious there was an inexperienced cop and the blame is his vs the info received tfrom the 911 caller?

Any word on what the Cowboy fans reaction to the press conference is? Will there be a breakdown of the press conference and, if so, will there be a Cowboy fan poll associated with it?
You know what.....I have never done this until now. I am pretty patient, but occasionally passionate about some things. Your posts are totally un-called for and not welcomed by me any longer. My posts at least attempted to share credible info and accounts. You are the first and only member of my ignore list. :bye:

I don't believe TO or his publicist. Now, I'm not saying he tried to kill himself. Maybe he just thought it would be fun to take 35 Vicodin and see what it did to him. Whatever.
fwiw, i once took 6 at once and felt like i was dying for about half an hour... i would hate to see what 35 felt like.

What a bunch of bull. I'm so sick and tired of athletes blaming everything on "supplements." TO is just embarrassed that he made such a fool of himself.

""Dallas Cowboys WR Terrell Owens (finger), during a press conference, apologized to the team for becoming a distraction. He said he did not attempt suicide and is not depressed. Owens said he was "kind of out of it" when he was being asked questions about if he was trying to hurt himself. He noted he took a couple of pain pills, was groggy and took some extra pills with his supplements. "The rumor of me taking 35 pills is absurd," Owens said. He said he did not have his stomach pu mped at the hospital like previously believed. Owens is aiming at returning to the field in Week 4. "I feel very capable of going out there and playing on Sunday," he added, while noting he should be able to practice Thursday, Aug. 28.""

This does sure sound like covering things, especially the publicist side, but what if the original story was correct? What if he is telling the Truth now?

I think TO deserves no support from his time in SF and Philly he was a despicable person. Since he has been in Dallas he has been fine and the media has blown everything out of proportion...Lets wait and see here.

I agree this thing was out of control today. However, if you were presented with the information that was out today PRIOR to the press conference how would have you handled it?

1530 AM here in Austin interviewed the reporter who broke the story, i think here name was Rebecca Lopez??

she's definitely sticking by her story, she kept harping on the fact that she's been a police reporter forever and sees hundreds of police reports every year and that they are rarely wrong. she basically called Etheridge a liar.

Responsible journalism. They (the media) kept on running with it even AFTER the police backed away from their statement.

As reported by ESPN in the last week:

- Cadillac Williams has hurniated discs. (Strike 1)

- Matt Leinart to start against Atlanta (Strike 2)

- Terrell Owens suicide attempt (Strike 3?)

Yeah, I mean why wouldn't you believe a retraction from an agency that could be held legally responsible and liable for the improper release of confidential information?

Not many actual "sports journalists" left at that station anymore. Most of em are face men and ex-athletes.

LMAO bradie james said that TO wouldn't do this he loves himself too much. he walks around in just a towel all the time.

but then he went on to say TO shouldn't play this week, of course that wasn't on camera. if true i think he's going to get a talk from BP on not feeding the media.

and now they got his philly friend hugh douglas giving him well wishes. HAHAHAHA

I agree for the most part. But I've got to give Dan Patrick credit. I was listening to his radio show today and he doubted it was a suicide attempt from the beginning. He's, by far, my favorite guy left at ESPN.

He's one of my least favorite. I can't think of anyone more smug than he is. He's the prime example of a reporter who became a "personality" at that network.

BREAKING NEWS-TO farts. ESPN says he crapped his pants.

Publicist says TO got ahold of some bad Chili but offered no further comment.

Fantasy owners contemplate fantasy implications. More later....

 I don't see it... TO is now healthy and ok, and this guy is making light of the over-reaction of media coverage... Bad taste if he was fighting for his life but now just a bad attempt at humor, relax.

On the Channel 8 6:00 news, the reporter had an update about 2 recent "traumatic events" in T.O.'s life:1) He was not allowed to see his son on his 7th birthday, which was Monday2) He and his girlfriend just broke up this weekThis info came from his personal trainer. The police and the reporter are standing by their story. I think T.O. is telling the truth, too, but not revealing the whole story. My guess is that he WAS depressed after these traumatic events, and took some extra pills to show his girlfriend and I guess the mother of his son how much those events affected him. I don't think he was trying to kill himself, but was trying to "harm himself." The police report didn't say they asked if he was trying to kill himself -- only if he was trying to harm himself. The painkillers and supplements may have affected his thinking some, too. His depressed state of mind could have made him take an action to harm himself with the pills, but he probably knew it wasn't going to kill him, especially with his publicist right there to call 911. They probably did some other procedure and didn't need to pump his stomach.I'm sure many who've been through a breakup have had similar short-term depression where they've tried to harm themselves as a call out to the person who left them. I believe T.O. was also telling the truth this afternoon when he said he isn't depressed, as he's probably in a better state of mind now than he was last night, right after the two "traumatic events." I don't think he's at risk of a suicide attempt. I'm sure he did get the attention of his ex- and the mother of his son, which may have been the goal of his action.I think if this is the true scenario, T.O.'s statements could be the truth, though incomplete, and the police report could be true as well. I'm not sure about the accuracy of the publicist's statements. This is pure speculation, but after hearing the report on those 2 events this week, combined with the medication and supplements, it makes sense to me.
