Breaking News Threads no longer ok here either? (1 Viewer)

Are those getting shifted into the Political Forum?

This place (the FFA, not the Political Forum) was a great resource for that kind of thing, and I'd be disappointed if this was the case.

I assume you mean the TX shooting thread was moved.  That's just ridiculous.  At this rate, every forum will be on the political forum except the "Who's Hottest" threads.

Yes, I am disappointed by this. Came on to check for news on it. Saw this thread so went to the PSF. That one is two screenfuls of talk about gun control with one post with details on the shooting.

How about leaving news ok for here but push those who want to talk political ramifications to the subforum?

it was mostly working before, especially after the political forum got started.

I got a ton of relevant updates about news stories here.

Political forums are the ones that should be deleted completely. Bad enough have to hear about that sh@@ all day long in every facet of life. People used to come here for entertainment, no longer.

I didn't move the topic but it's a fair question. Would you guys prefer to news that might be political type news still posted in the FFA?

The Political forum exists mostly to help the FFA. If you guys would prefer those stories here, then let us know.

Breaking news like that thread have historically been no problem here, and pretty well policed of politics by the posters.

Agreed. Someone goes political in a breaking news thread here, I suspect they'll get run the hell out the thread. Like someone above said, I typically follow breaking events here - just easier for me.

breaking news should be in here.

We would prefer that the posters who ruin breaking news threads with political nonsense not to do that wherever that might be on this site.

There's an ongoing thread in there for school shootings. Because of their, uh, frequency. Lots of heated and semi-insulting conversation is going on.

I like it.
right, but I don't think an FFA thread was merged with that one.

Putting breaking news in the subforum virtually guarantees it will become a political football whether the majority want it to or not

The news isn't political.

Yeah. For clarity, I don't know if there was a merged thread or not. Heard about the shooting and came in here for news... Bupkis.

Wasn't sure if we were doing that any more or if there was a previous discussion about it...so I asked here.

Based on everything I can see, I don't think there was an FFA thread. I think the people who were interested just went to the school shooting thread in the political forum and posted updates/discussion there.

And fwiw, there's definitely room for breaking news in both forums. I'd like to think the version here is more news and fact based, with opinions relegated to political. But we're capable of self monitoring imo

I agree that as the news is breaking and we are sticking to the facts of the case (as opposed to pontificate about how to avoid such solutions in the future that veers into political discourse, or whatever we actually have in the politics forum).

Basically, while we are in the "thoughts and prayers" phase (aka not discussing anything that might help us movin forward), stays here. When we get into constructive and destructive dialogue about how to meaningfully address the issue at hand, it's in the PSF

Yup.

A separate forum for each topic would fix that
