Breakout game for BJGE? (1 Viewer)

Everyone is down on him.

He missed most of the preseason

He doesn't have break-away speed

But....

Suggs is out

Bal Def is getting older

He is fresh and ready to go

Has a knack for the endzone and gaining tough inside yards

Doesn't fumble

Is with a new team and fresh start and wants to prove something

And.....

Every year there are breakout players who we miss for whatever reason.

Could this be the guy?

Thoughts?

Depends on now much Cincy wants to commit to the run this year. I'm a pats homer and have seen his entire career. He gets what's there and no more. So IMO hell need 25 carries a game to amount to much of anything from a fantasy perspective.

I'll probably catch some flack for this but IMO, Benson is a superior runner. BGE was lucky to find himself on an offense that set him up with that many GL attempts, which really kept his fantasy value afloat. I remember reading Cincy's offense line ranked in the bottom three of Pro Fantasy Focus' rankings last year. IMO, he went from a better to worse situation. He still has value, I'm just not sure it's 5th round value (his ADP in PPR no less).

Worse situation by being FOCAL POINT of their offense? Yes....Cincy's offense is a big scale down when comparing them to the Pass Heavy and Offensive Juggernaught the Patriots have.....but he also was not the focus of their offense. The Bengals clearly are focused and committed to the run.How well he performs tomorrow...I HAVE NOT IDEA. In fact, I'm torn between benching him vs Baltimore or starting Kendall Wright [home]vs the Patriots (and Lance Moore [home] vs Washington). Baltimore has a nice defense and historically can stop the run. However, its Monday Night Football and like the original poster said......HE HAS MUCH TO PROOVE.

Being the focal point is not always good, and in BGE's case, this is especially true. He faced soft defensive fronts in NE, no one really game planed for him, he was the least of their worries. BGE is not explosive enough to beat 8 man fronts.

This guy plays in the NFL, right?

He can run and catch at a very high level.

He may not have 4.3 speed, but the guy is a starting RB for one of 32 NFL Teams.

He can ball.

Like I said I've probably watched every carry of his career. He's competent but he does not break big runs. I think he maybe has like 2-3 runs longer than 20 yards in s career. If that. Let's put it this way, in limited action this year Ridley probably equaled BJGEs career total of 20+ yards. It's just not his game. And he doesn't catch all that well. He's ok at best on that department.

I think you are 100% correct. He will not have a good year this year. In addition to what you said, Cincy's O-line is in shambles, with only 2 returning tackles. They have lost their FA guard, their center, and they start a rookie at the other guard position. They aren't set up for success at running the ball.

doesn't that describe everybody this week?

I like him and think he is underrated.

The Ravens arent what they used to be.

Outside of AJ Green, they will need to establish a running game due to a relatively weak passing game.

I think 25 carries and 100 yards w/ 1 or 2 TD's is VERY possible.

Not sure what this means. Ravens Defense gave up the 2nd fewest rushing yards last season and just 3.5 ypc (2nd as well). Yards per carry allowed since 2007:2007- 2.8 (1st)2008- 3.6 (5th)2009- 3.4 (1st)2010- 3.9 (8th)2011- 3.5 (2nd)

Tomorrow? I'm a Bengals homer and don't see it, at least unless they get the short passing game going. I'd be happy with something like 17/70 from BJGE. It'll be interesting to see what Leonard can do with a few more chances though.

had a few beers tonight and have re-read the messages.

He will most likely be a guy that is in and out of your lineup all season long.

Maybe just play the matchups and call it a day.

Rosy glasses?

Suggs is out - fact.

Bal Def is getting older - relative. Every defense is a year older.

He is fresh and ready to go - Missed most of the preseason with an injury.

Has a knack for the endzone and gaining tough inside yards - in a spread offense with Tom Brady.

Doesn't fumble - okay.

Is with a new team and fresh start and wants to prove something - with a new team, but that second part is strictly conjecture. For all we know he is fat and happy.

Interesting...Here is my guess for his stats tomorrow:15 - 68yards - 1TD3rec - 28
You do know that over his 4 season career BJGE is averaging less than half a catch a game, right?26 catches in 56 games.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'd be ecstatic if you were to prove us wrong in week one :)You have to remember though that the Bengals have some line issues as well as they lost their starting LG and C in preseason.Who Dey!-QG

I expect Ben Ellis to produce much the same as Cedric Benson did the last couple of seasons.

How often did they use BJGE as a pass catcher out of the backfield in NE? They used Woodhead Welker, or Gronk for the short passes.Def a positive for his pass catching numbers being in cincy.

Trying to decide to roll with him or play Hillis in a time share situation. Think I will rolll with the starter.

Not too excited by the matchup, but one good thing today for him is that Bernard Scott won't be stealing touches. So he should get a greater than normal workload Monday night.

Although BAL doesn't look to be the same defensive unit as years past, I'll be the first to admit I was wrong. He looks like an upgrade over Benson. He's better in between the tackles and at the GL. That was one hard fought TD.

Well, he did better than anyone expected against a tough D.

Do we now have believers out there, especially when they go up against a poor CLE defense this week?

Not so sure about this.Methinks Baltimore reputation >> Baltimore reality

They lost Jarret Johnson, Suggs, and Redding on their D-line and it's not like Lewis and Reed are getting any younger...

I wasn't not a believer...just wasn't a believer against the Ravens :) He'll eat up the Browns :) -QG
