Brent Celek going forward? (1 Viewer)

Topic and description pretty much say it all. Did Vick finally discover his new toy and Celek will be a viable option for TE starved teams in the playoffs? Or was his involvement simply a matter of the Bears taking away the WR/deep routes and Vick needing to check down?

:goodposting: Def interested to hear others on this to!

Me three! Currently have V.D. and Jimmy Graham. Celek was cut weeks ago by a frustrated owner. I can grab him tomorrow.

It's only one game though. Vick has all but ignored him up until last week. Jackson though seems to be regressing and there is a lot of talk here in Philly that he is becoming one dimensional since his concussion. Maybe Celek will benefit going forward?

I think I'm going to take a chance w/ Celek... at least this week against HOU (allowing the most pts to TE's).

I have Hernandez right now and he's frustrating w/ Belichick's mind games.

Not sure what to think on Celek's production the rest of the year w/ Vick... and I own Vick too.

But I really don't have much to lose at this point.

I grabbed Celek last night and dropped Hernandez. I need Celek to become more involved but you may be right about him checking down, however that 30 yard touchdown near the end of the game looked that he was the primary target and Vick threw into heavy coverage to him.

Also just picked up Celek after his frustated owner dropped him. Still going to wait to play him though to see if he can be consistent. I have the luxury of also having Witten and Keller so I'm not desperate. Question is, who will be more negatively affected by this DJax or Maclin? Who's touches does he steal?

I wouldn't get too excited- the TD was nice, but up until 2 1/2 minutes to go in a game that they were down big, he had 1 catch for 9 yards. I suppose there are worse options, but Celek still doesn't appear to be a focal point to me at all.

I drafted Celek and dropped him before the Eagles bye. I have been playing the waiver wire. Currently have Dreesen and am considering switching back to Celek.

Having watched alot of Eagles games this year it seemed there were plays run for Celek near the end zone last week that just weren't being run before. I don't know if this is a function of the Chicago D or the Philly game plan. I would think Celek would be better then he has been for the remainder of the year, but not anywhere near last years production.

He's worth the risk as a backup if you need one. I am considering picking him up, I have Witten as my starter and our FA deadline for the season ends tomorrow.

I was thinking about picking up Dreessen also, but I'm worried Daniels will start to cut in again.Any TE on the WW at this point is a risk in my league. We need another Tamme to hit the WW!

Don't chase the points with Celek. Chicago took away the normal Vick partners in crime and Celek was the only target left for Vick most of the game. Even then he had to thread a very small needle to him for the TD. That catch was a fluke and is incomplete 9 times out of 10.

Other teams may learn from the Bears scheme, but Houston is not capable of pulling it off. Maclin, Jackson, McCoy and Avant will get 95% of all Vicks passing yards Thursday. Wait on Celek. Too risky at this point of the season. There are a lot better options out there.

If anything it's hard to argue that Celek isn't a nice play at least this one week against HOU.

PHI will be passing to everyone all day long. Rudedog, what better options do you have in mind for the rest of the season?

Giants and Bears played Vick the same way - drop safeties back deep and rush 4, pushing him out of the pocket to the right. This leaves the middle open. Avant also had a huge game against the Bears because the middle was open.

"The NFL is a copycat league" so more teams will play the Eagles this way. Other teams won't have the speed at the edge that the Giants and Bears do. The middle will continue to be open.

I drafted him and gave up about 4-5 weeks ago when I picked up Marcedes Lewis. Now, Lewis is being called to block more and I worry about his production versus a stout Titans' front 4. This week's waiver wire focus was Kevin Boss for me, but someone else grabbed him. I'm definitely looking Celek's way for the game tomorrow night.

Anyone think it's a bad idea to start Celek over Lewis?

Hard to say without knowing your league and who is available. But Olsen may be available in a lot of leagues and the Chicago offense is picking up. Granted they have a tough schedule but this week against Detroit may be a better option. Additionally I like the kid from Illinois at St. Louis but it appears he will be out for week 13. Going forward though he may be more valuable than Celek.Celek is just too risky right now in my opinion and there may be individual matchups that are better options on the wire. Vick is looking at Celek last still and that may mean he sees little opportunity this week as the wR's and backs will get the majority of his attention. Celek returns to being an afterthought to Vick this week even with the Houston secondary woes, or because of them.eta. Just checked and it appears the Ram TE will be out for an extended time. Fasano may be a better option then. As lang as Henne remains the QB in Miami.

I have the same problem with Lewis. It would be great to find a sleeper out there right now.Celek has gone 3/50/1 and 4/55/0 the last two weeks. An improvement but still not where he was last year.

No but unless you clearly have a better option than you could do worse. He had 8 targets last week including three in the endzone. One of those he shoulda had.

Let's see:

1) he plays on a top 3 offense - check

2) he's gotten plenty of red zone targets the past few weeks - check

3) he's had past success in this offense - check

I'm confidently starting him over keller this week. I think he's emerging as one of Vick's favorite targets.

Can't seem to shake the feeling that Celek is going to have a big week against the Cowboys... I have Watson coming off a big game but something tells me that if I sit Celek I am going to regret it...

Also read that he is finally getting completely healthy after dealing with several issues throughout the year, add that to the fact that they our indoors, primetime game, expected shootout and alot of Dallas attention paid to the wideouts...

Hmmm....

His shining recently can be directly attributed to Jason Peters getting his head out of #### and not needing Celek to help him out. However, with the potential of King Dunlap starting at RG, you won't see much of Celek. He will be brought over to help against Spencer.

Seriously, start him at your own risk.

What are the odds of him starting?

No soup for Celek this week.

Still can't decide between him and Marcedes for this weekend.

Both were ineffective last week (although Celek did post his season-high total in receiving yards). This is the problem with TE's in the current season; no clear cut decisions beyond Gates, Tamme, and VD.

so Winston Justice IS OUT. This bodes poorly for Celek this week right? He'll have to stay in and block most of the time? im sure he'll get a few looks but enough to start in the playoffs?

Ive been starting him over Z Miller the last couple weeks and just this week i dropped Miller for Dallas D. So now Celek is the only TE on my roster. Dickson is out there on the WW, thinking about grabbing him :goodposting:

Isn't Vick a mobile enough QB for Celek to get open down the field even w/ Justice out and Celek needing to block more?

You ought to look at the leading FF scorers at TE since week 10. The results might surprise you.Aside from Gates and Tamme (and even they issues) I am not sure there is a single TE right now that I would feel really "safe" about right now. I also have Marcedes Lewis and his red zone targets are definitely down (1 RZ target since week 10) and that used to be the meat of his scoring. Right now Celek and Graham are definitely in my wheelhouse, though I don't think the Saints matchups are so good for Graham after this week. The point about Justice for the Eagles is a good one and the Giants game probably means more work at blocking help too. Not a great situation all around.

pretty much guaranteed now that justice is out. DO NOT START CELEK.

So Celek is blocking full time? I've got Watson, too, but isn't the weather in Buffalo supposed to be brutal?

yeah but it's not like watson runs fly patterns. you would think he'd get his share of checkdowns. plus you know how delhomme is...once he finds his favorite guy to lock in on, he'll keep feeding him over and over.(note: i'm starting watson)

Alright, that does it. I'm going with Lewis this weekend.

The whole Philly O-line situation makes Celek seem far too risky. Might as well hope that Lewis gets more looks from Garrard in what is supposed to be rainy conditions.

On the Lewis vs. Celek note, keep in mind too that Jacksonville is focused on running the ball of late and Lewis dislocated his thumb in practice this week. He probably won't have a great game either.

I'm rolling with Celek in my league this week (I have Lewis too).

Here we go. Lewis is starting to seem like a non-option himself.
