Brett Kiesel (1 Viewer)

the last 2 notes from rotoworld

Brett Keisel-DL- Steelers Jul. 31 - 8:43 am et

Steelers DE/LB Brett Keisel has been getting work on offense during goal-line situations at early training camp practices.

Keisel is also often lining with his hand up as a linebacker in the team's base defense. Any offensive opportunities would only increase his IDP value.Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Brett Keisel-DL- Steelers Mar. 18 - 7:06 pm et

Steelers DE Brett Keisel will be tried at linebacker this offseason.

The 6-5/285-pounder will be given a look in an Adalius Thomas-like role, so he plans to lose a few pounds to get lighter on his feet. "I love it," said Keisel, who mostly played special teams before becoming a starter in 2006. "(Offenses) don't know if I'm rushing or if I'm dropping into coverage. They don't know where I'm rushing from. They don't know if I'm containing or coming up the middle. It causes a lot of problems." In addition, right guard Kendall Simmons will be worked out at center.Source: The Johnstown Tribune-Democrat

now i really don't care much about what he may get from offense as it will be minimal at best but the other quote from march is interesting. did the drafting of timmons/woodley shut the door on keisel's new role? if still in play the slightest it would/could have made keisel a very enticing play listed as a DL.

I was watching him last year and if I remember right he was a consistent scorer if not a homerun threat. I waited too long and someone else snapped him up though. One of my students is his nephew or something and always wears his jersey.

Timmons and Woodley won't have an impact on Keisel. The "rover" position was something introduced during OTA's post-draft. Keisel is definitely on the short list of DLs with increased value due to additional LB responsibility, dependent on how often he's used in this fashion.

Does anyone know how he has been used in the preseason?
He's on the field for all downs, playing like Ad Thomas.Only difference is he is listed as a DE instead of a LB. HUGE.***Steelers DRE Brett Keisel’s versatility could prove a major asset to Pittsburgh’s defense. The 6-5, 285-pound Keisel is being used in the Steelers’ “quarters” defense on passing downs, much as the Ravens used OLB Adalius Thomas. In the defense, which generally features four down linemen, one linebacker and six defensive backs, defensive coordinator **** LeBeau will move Keisel around to find good matchups and to create unpredictability in the mind of the offense. On early downs, Keisel is strong enough to hold the point of attack and tie up blockers for the Steelers’ linebackers to roam free, but he is also an above-average pass rusher as 3-4 ends go, as evidenced by his 5½ sacks a season ago. The “quarters” defense is also worth watching for this reason: Rookie OLB Lawrence Timmons, finally back on the field after being bothered by a groin injury throughout the summer, is getting work as an edge rusher in the package.

I noticed that as of today, Brett's week-one forecast on FootballGuys was for one solo tackle and that's it. I know those forecasts must be awfully difficult to do (I'm an economist, so I have some sense of how tough that is!), but he averaged 2.38 solos per game and over one assist last year. Particularly given the change of role discussed in this thread, does the one solo seem overly conservative to anyone else???

Yes. It seems too low to me
