I picked up Hartline a few weeks ago and was forced to use him today.

Whoa.

I have to admit - I haven't watched one Miami game this year. Any insight on Hartline?

[*]Receptions - 3, 9, 1, 11

[*]Yards - 50, 111, 41, 245

[*]TDs - 0, 0, 0, 1

Any Miami fans out there who can give insight here? Can Tannehill sustain Hartline as a solid Fantasy starter? Can the Miami offense in general? Again, I haven't watched a bit of their games - but I'll be sure to later this week to see what the heck's going on there.

Congrats, you just accidentally picked up this years Victor Cruz. Except he doesn't play in New York so people probably won't put it together for another couple weeks. Look at his schedule. He has great chemistry with Tannehill.

I did the same thing. Picked him up based on his targets. I needed a bye week filler. Almost started Burleson over him today. He probably gets me the win this week despite also rolling with Pitta and McFadden.He sure looks like a top 20 WR going forward, especially in PPR. I had been thinking of packaging him to upgrade elsewhere. Not sure after today.

I had Burlson in my lineup until a Sunday morning swith to Hartline also.I first noticed him during the off season, when Philbin kept refering to him as their #1 WR, even when he was missing all of preseason. Stashed him away & was very happy with the targets he was getting. He's got good size & Tannehill seems to throw it up to him even when he is covered. Today was obviously a huge bonus, but I would expect solid WR #2 numbers from him the rest of the season. Philbin's system looks to be very QB/WR friendly so there could be good value on Bess also (at least until they are able to upgrade the WR talent).

My plan will be to sell high if I can get someone to bite on him as a WR2 level player. I'm not sure that the people in my league will buy him at that level though.

If I can only get WR3 quality from a trade, I'd prefer to hang on to him. I doubt I'll start him most weeks (he's behind Marshall, Harvin, Stevie Johnson, and Nicks on my team), but as a guy sitting near the end of my bench, I'll gladly take his PPR upside.

Marshall 907 snaps, Fasano 915 snaps, Hartline a little over 700...he missed about 3-4 full games worth of on and off injuries, 4 games the year before that. He was injured all off season, almost didn't make the team. You don't have to believe me, but if I had him I would be moving him quickly. I do love the routes he runs, he is fun to watch. He is pretty brittle and doesn't usually get a lot of YAC.

I agree with the Mia fans who don't think this will last. I haven't watched many Mia games this year. This weeks was probably the 1st. Hartline played extremely well yesterday and so did Tannehill. What was remarkably obvious though was how much Arz was daring Mia to pass the ball. They were stacking the box all game long and playing aggressive. Mia's Oline really should be getting more credit than anyone right now because they played a hell of a game. I just don't think teams will be playing Mia that aggressivly the rest of the season.

Assuming 100 blind bidding auction dollar budget, how many do you put down on Hartline? Or rather, how many would you expect to see him go for?

But what I'm not getting is that he won't continue to be a valid producer this year - he's clearly got some good chemistry with Tannehill on a team that lacks any playmakers at the WR position. The target numbers through four weeks are pretty eye-opening, to be sure.

Maybe he's been brittle in the past, but injuries could happen to anyone.

Or at the end of the day, is it just the race thing?

Good post. Agree completely. Targets and involvement with the offense is huge. His upcoming schedule looks juicy too

As a Dolphins fan, what do you seem him as for the remainder of this season for fantasy teams? I assume PPR he's more valuable, but I'm curious of his thoughts.I picked him up and he's sitting as the 5th receiver on my roster. I'd love to get good value for him, but I doubt I could get anything better than a WR3 or RB4 level player for him from the people in my league. Personally, I think he's easily in the lower WR3 tier (30-36) in PPR leagues for the remainder of the year, just based on targets alone.

Always good to have a reliable white WR even if he gets injured later. Everyone gets injured.

No risk if you already have him. Doubt anyone gives you anything decent for him in a trade because people only care about "names" plus no one really trades in my league anyway. Too sharp.

He's actually #4 in my PPR league. We give bonus points at 50 yard intervals after reaching 100, so he picked up 4 bonus points yesterday. When looking that stat up, I noticed that I have had the two highest scoring wide receiver performances of the year on my bench. Nicks in week 2 and Hartline yesterday.I have to admit, Hartline's situation so far reminds me of a lot of breakout receivers over the years. They have a solid game or two with stats that will cause a few people to take notice, but very few will consider them as anything more than a flier. Then, they truly breakout with a massive game. I'm not saying he's the next Miles Austin, Brandon Lloyd (he was a little more known than the others when he broke, but it was still a shock), or Victor Cruz, but it does seem like what we've seen in the past.

I'm assuming Revis was playing on Hartline until he was injured late in the 3rd quarter. Wouldn't be the first time that teams simply didn't throw in his direction. After the Revis injury, Hartline did get open for a 41 yard catch & had a 20+ yard pass interference call against Cromartie.

Actually, Hartline had 9 targets last week with only one catch. While that may look bad on the surface, it's actually a really good sign for Hartline. It shows that Tannehill will force-feed him the ball, even when he's completely covered.* I should add that I didn't see the game, so this is just my assumption based on the stat-line. I think it's probably a reasonable assumption though.

This thread is ridiculous. We have 4 weeks as a body of work from this guy. 4 weeks is PLENTY of data to draw some obvious conclusions:

1) Tannehill is pretty good. Good enough to support a stud wr. If vjax/fitz/Marshall etc were on the dolphins woul you not be buying after seeing Tannehill feed them the ball week in and week out for 4 weeks? I'm not saying hartline = any of those guys but my point is Tannehill has priced he can support a stud wr.

2) Tannehill and hartline clearly have a great rapport, and Tannehill targets him enough to make hartline very relevant in a weekly basis.

3) hartlines PRODUCTION thus far shows that he has the talent to get open, decent speed, and soft hands. His production has also vaulted him into the top echelon of fantasy wrs, and it's not just from this week. He has eclipsed 100 yds receiving once before in this young season.

4) someone's gotta catch the ball in Miami? Who is his competition outside of Bess? No one.

Bottom line, based on these first 4 weeks of the 2012 season, I see no reason, barring injury, why you shouldn't feel fine about locking hartline into your WR3 spot in 12 team leagues, or as a 4th wr/flex in 10 teamers as a rock solid option moving forward. Until he proves you wrong for doing so.

Haha. I wonder how high he jumps in the 250+ Forward list this week. I don't know if he can pull off a Denarius Moore upgrade from last season (he was bumped to WR10 after a big game)...but it will be interesting to see.

It's also important to remember that, due to an injury that lasted through camp (calf, I think), Hartline wasn't even starting for the Dolphins Week 1. He took over a starting spot Week 2. So, in the three games he has started, he's had two 100-yard games and buckets of targets. There's a lot to like here.

I added him a couple of weeks ago in both of my leagues, and he was sitting in both.

I added him based on the strength of his target numbers & his lack of competition. He consistently gets looks from Tannehill, and has nearly had TDs in every game so far, IIRC.

I got him for a BYE week sub, but with this week's breakout may have to reconsider giving him a permanent seat in the lineup.

And this is what worries me. Haven't seen him run routes on non-highlight reel plays. Is he being doubled yet? I have to feel like this is coming, where he starts getting "Fitzgerald-ed" when defenses he's about to face start to game plan for the Dolphins passing game. If he's been getting single coverage, I can't see that honeymoon lasting too much longer after the past few weeks if the other options truly are not playmakers with the volume of targets he's seen and what he's doing with them. I see your point comparing to top echelon WR's, but those guys are physical monsters who make themselves get open when keyed upon by defensive secondaries, that's why they are at or near top tier talent. I wonder if we can try to predict him get swarmed in the coming weeks here, and if he has the size/talent to over come it and truly continue the breakout in 2012.
