from ESPN:

Mike Nolan and Jack Del Rio are ready to suit up.

The San Francisco coach and his Jacksonville counterpart have the NFL's permission to wear dress suits designed by Reebok during two games this season.

Nolan is expected to debut his old-school outfit -- a black suit, a white shirt and a red-and-gold-striped tie -- at the 49ers' home game against Seattle on Sunday. Del Rio also will wear a suit-and-tie ensemble in Monday night's home game against the Giants.

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said the 49ers coach has permission to "test-drive" the suit at two games this season.

"Working with Reebok, they were able to come up with something that should work for him," McCarthy said.

Nolan first broached the idea shortly after he was hired by the 49ers in 2005. He believes the ensemble will project an image of authority while also honoring his father, ****, the 49ers' coach from 1968-75, and Hall of Fame coaches such as Tom Landry and Vince Lombardi.

But the NFL couldn't immediately give permission, citing its lucrative outfitting contract with Reebok. Nolan has worn pullovers and polo shirts during his tenure, but has worked with Reebok's designers to come up with the natty ensemble he's expected to show off Sunday.

Dan Reeves is thought to be the last NFL coach to wear a suit on the sideline. Coaches have been required to wear team-issued clothing since 1993.

Del Rio is expected to wear his suit again at the Jaguars' game against Indianapolis on Dec. 10, and Nolan will suit up again at a game still to be determined.

Good move.

The NFL was only prohibiting suits to get sell more team gear and make the coaches advertise gear for free.

Besides, I always wanted to see Bill Parcells wearing Hugo Boss.

My son and I are confused at why Belichick, in his cut off sweatshirt, is not fined by the NFL. Isn,t this a dress code infraction in the NFL?

A player is fined for the tiniest infraction.

I like the suits as well. FWIW, it appears that the only reason that they are allowing the suits is that Reebok designed them, making them official "team gear".

It's okay to wear a cutoff sweatshirt as long as it says "Reebok" on it.Just Belichick making a point about the NFL and its priorities.

 Between the injury report hijinx and his sleeveless sweatshirts and head bands, he cracks me up.

You can see Mike Nolan's suit on the 49ers.com site.

Pretty nice... I especially like the tie.
Says it's made by Colony Sportswear, not Reebok.
...that's because it's a 49ers licenced sportsjacket they are trying to sell... and most likely have been selling since well before this attire ruling. Nowhere on there does it say that it's the suit Nolan will wear on the sidelines.

They could do the whole college basketball thing...wear a REEBOK pin on the lapel.

Parcells should wear something, as a Cowboy fan i'm offended by his bologna teets

I want to see Reebock come out witha line of Tom Landry headwear. It would also be sweet if they could reproduce Lombardi's fur hat and camel hair overcoat.

Or better yet I'd like to see another throwback uniform season and see the Packers emerge from the tunnel @ Lambeau during a December game lead by a head coach dressed like Lombardi with the players all wearing those 60's style poncho's/rain slickers.

I fixed [scooters] post. Belichick is getting away with way more than a player would. They all push the envelope, until they get fined.

elpasotexan. Your right he does project more of a homeless look than an NFL coach and that is exactly what me and my son thought too.

I think the NFL is going to be a bit surprised at the number of team ties that sell. Another niche filled. That might allow the suit back permanently.

Question..if the players are not allowed to put ads-logo's-ect. of any kind on their uniforms (as a player or team) which is a NFL rule..why do head coach's have that rights to wear a suit by Reebok!
