Broncos place Young/Pope on IR (1 Viewer)

Broncos placed RBs Selvin Young (ruptured disc in neck) and P.J. Pope (torn hamstring) on injured reserve, ending their seasons.

They're the sixth and seventh backs to be placed on Denver's I.R. list in 2008. Young couldn't beat out Michael Pittman at the beginning of the year and was injured almost all season. He is under contract for the minimum in 2009, but the Broncos are sure to upgrade their backfield and Young isn't guaranteed a spot on the roster. He's injury prone and not all that talented. :missing: How can you say that??? They keep getting injured. When your down to what the 7th spot on your roster, of course your not going to be able to run. No team would be able to run.

Actually, I think the contrary is true - in spite of the revolving door at the position this season, they are still averaging over 4.5 YPC. Denver's problem this season is not that the running game isn't working, it's that they abandon it too early and too often. In any case, it's not like Shanny has any control over these injuries.

The last time I remember a team getting ravaged by injuries at one position like this (besides the Seattle WRs this year) is the 1991 Eagles QB's (Randall Cunningham, Jim McMahon, Pat Ryan, Brad Goebel, Ken O'Brien and Jeff Kemp all saw time in '91). I'm sure there have been cases since then, but I don't recall them off hand.

Absolutely crazy.

I'm in a total points league that runs through week 17. Is T. Bell the man to have this weekend if one is desperate for a RB? Thoughts?

I think this is clear evidence that we are all stuck in a time warpto answer your question: I don't think that Tatum Bell would be very motivated to perform given the likelihood he'll end up on IR after the game

 The fact that they keep keeping good production out of that position ... and the fact the RB #7 is getting "should I start him" questions, is proof enough that they can stick anybody in that spot and be productive.

Shanahan on phone: "Hi, Maurice Clarett? Yes, Mike Shanahan... not in jail are you? Good, good... uh, what are you doing this Sunday night?"

RotoWire) Boyd was re-signed to the Broncos' active roster on Monday, the Denver Post reports.

Analysis: With the season ending injuries to P.J. Pope and Selvin Young after Sunday's game against Buffalo, Boyd moves into the backup role, likely playing behind Tatum Bell, who has stayed healthy since being added to the roster.
