Browns receiver Braylon Edwards was hospitalized Saturday night after having a gash in his right foot repaired with stitches.

Edwards suffered the cut on his foot when he was running lightly in his socks during a special teams period Saturday afternoon with some other receivers. According to a photographer who was shooting the session, Edwards and fellow receiver Donte Stallworth were vying for the lead when Stallworth's cleat gashed Edwards' right heel.

Edwards' grimaced in pain on the field while Josh Cribbs wrapped his t-shirt around the foot to stop the bleeding. Edwards left the field on a cart.

Edwards was not at practice Sunday morning, but coach Romeo Crennel said he thought he'd be released from the hospital on Sunday. He said Edwards was kept overnight for precautionary reasons. Earlier in the practice, Edwards had his ankle looked at after landing awkardly, but returned to work after talking to the trainer.

Crennel did not give a time-frame for Edwards' return, but one team official said it was not believed to be serious. However, he will probably be held out of action until the stitches are removed, meaning he could miss the second preseason game against the Giants on Aug. 18.

I've had stitches a couple times and they were in a few weeks, not a few days

Why was he out running around without his cleats on, when everybody else had theirs on?

No, most stitches for something like this would only be in for a few days.

The Cleveland Clinic is named in the first paragraph of the article...

Isn't that Cleveland Staph Hospital?

My guess is something along the lines of Bray betting Stallworth he could outrun him in a foot race barefoot... the race was probably close, they were goofing around bumping into each other and Braylon's foot gets hit.

This is perfect!!!!!!

Anybody know how to get a rumor spread online really quickly? Something like this "Braylon Edwards suffers possible season ending laceration to his stronger foot, still in hospital, could miss significant time, might die, etc, etc..

Anything that brings his value down is greatly appreciated. TIA

The injury is probably not serious but until you see him practicing I think there is some cause for concern. I have a draft next Friday where I am I hoping to get him in the 2nd but I now have some reservations.

Oh, God, I didn't even think of that.

I hope my league mates feel the same way. I was hoping he'd fall to the 2/3 turn, but have seen him go a few picks earlier in most mocks.
