The Browns confirm the league is investigating whether a member of the team's personnel department texted the sideline during games.
A "high-ranking" personnel man allegedly texted the sideline complaining about play calls. "Obviously I'm aware of it," coach Mike Pettine said Thursday. "I do know that's an ongoing league investigation." The use of "any electronic communication devices" on the sidelines or in the coaches' booth is strictly prohibited.

What if they were using Texts on those Microsoft Surface pads, the NFL is forcing down team's throat? I'm sure then it would be fine.

If this was the Pats it would already be confirmed that they were sending forbidden information back and forth that gave them that extra advantage that hoody always cheats to get. It was probably some guy getting a grocery list from his wife for after the game.

I'm sure this will be a huge story. :lol: Kind of makes you wonder bout the timing of it coming out?

 
More Patriot fans trying to pass the buck. The reason this is a non-story is that its the Browns + they didn't make the playoffs + they don't have a history of cheating which potentially lead to wins.

Since when did the logic change to Person A breaks the rules so I can do whatever the hell I want as Person B? The Browns should be punished but its a footnote of a story compared to the team with Spy Gate history and the same team who happens to be in the Super Bowl in another week.

So if I am getting the right message we are supposed to not talk about the Patriots at all. Who is their QB again? Bom Trady? Doesn't matter I guess because he shouldn't be mentioned when talking about the best in the league because the Patriot fans on here only want to talk about other teams and what they do.

It's called reality. You don't generally get a speeding ticket for keeping up with the flow of traffic. You don't generally get arrested for jaywalking in cities where no one waits for the crosswalk lights. You don't generally get fired from your job for mailing a few bill with the company stationary.

All those events COULD result in arrests or at least fines. But they generally don't because the the average person is typically involved in that kind of behavior anyway. Most people don't sweat every single letter of the law. Behaving the same way as the rest of the crowd is generally acceptable in the real world. Even judges will throw cases out for it. Take speeding: you can TECHNICALLY be speeding, but if you're keeping up with the flow of traffic that ticket will often be thrown out when contested.

 
I presume this results from the final vestiges of the Culture of Corruption Belicheck brought to the Browns years ago, and which corrupt culture was continued by disciples from that poisonous tree that the Browns employed over the years.

I didnt realize texting and having too low of PSI in the ball was the same thing? Also I didnt realize the NFL was not going to hand down any punishment for the Brown's for texting, thought it was under investigation?

Since we are comparing this to jaywalking can I assume 10-15 other teams every game have balls with drastically lower or higher PSI. People are outraged because players have said all the things they do to break the ball in but from my view of the rule book I dont see any of that being against the rules (show me the excerpt if I am wrong). I see the tampering of the balls after inspection to be cheating otherwise I can care less if the official approved an under inflated ball thats on the league then and Patriots should be off the hook (but sounds like the officials do test PSI prior to games and at that time passed).

My original premise of my response though stands that just because someone gets away with speeding (rule breaking A) does not mean you get to steal from the gas station (rule breaking B). Also last time I checked the Browns were under investigation to be punished but no news outlet worth anything would bring this up as a lead story because it has no bearing on this season or likely future seasons as the Browns are seen as a mediocre franchise.

Considering that several QBs have indicated that they do things to the ball and it doesn't seem like the refs pay much attention to it, it seems plausible.

Speaking of whom, Atlanta is under investigation for pumping in crowd noise. Hmm.

I think their point is that there is a long history of questionable behavior around the league yet people still act holier-than-thou... Serious question. If you were not biased by the teams involved, What is the bigger competitive advantage? Piping in crowd noise or shooting video from an unauthorized location?

 
The league has to come down hard on the Browns before competent teams start trying to employ this strategy.

Characterizing this an "Offseason from Hell," beat writer Tony Grossi expects the Browns to face some "combination of fines, suspensions or draft choices taken away." Johnny Manziel is in rehab, Josh Gordon is already done for 2015, OC Kyle Shanahan essentially quit due to organizational dysfunction, and 2014 No. 8 overall pick Justin Gilbert already looks like a lost cause. And now the Browns may lose 2015 draft choices.

Browns GM Ray Farmer has been suspended four games without pay for illegal gameday texting.
After an investigation, the NFL has deemed that Farmer acted as a lone gunman when he attempted to text playcalls to the sidelines during 2014 games. So they haven't lost a draft pick, but have been fined $250,000 and will have to go at it without Farmrer for the first month of 2015. He won't even be allowed in the team facility, although that may be a good thing
