Bruce Arians Slaps Andrew Adams' Helmet - Thoughts? (1 Viewer)

Arians has a partially torn Achilles. It's not a great look but i don't think a 69 year old coach violently attacked a player by open hand slapping his helmet.  I think he got there as quickly as he could and clumsily tried to get his player's attention in a loud stadium when the player was about to commit a penalty in a playoff game. Still not a cool thing to do and if this were basketball or the player wasn't wearing a helmet it would be a lot different.  But I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt until I hear something from the players.

If I am the GM, I show it to him and say, "let's not do this anymore." And I leave it at that. It's a bad look but no need to make it a big deal either.

Well said...  Voted "Bad, but relax" ...  It was a moment in a game where he needed to get the player focused.  It was not the best choice, but it worked without insult or injury.

Yes, I would say the one small caveat would the player and team reaction. If the player is really uspet about it or the team/key players were bothered by it, then maybe you require some kind of conversation to happen, a man to man apology. I doubt it but you need to account for how the players feel more than for how any media members or twitter posters feel.

Interesting Joe

-First of all I applaud you for getting discussion going on a topic I wasn't even aware of and I wanted to NOT LIKE whatever was on that Twitter

-However the optics do not look good and even though i root for the Bucs, my SP bud @Capella has been railing on BA for a long while now and I might just have on rose colored glasses about the Bucs

Either way, this wasn't the topic of discussion i expected tonight but I'm thankful you keep firing up discussion topics, this one is definitely worth a deeper look.

-MoP initial reaction was let it go, BA just wanting his attention BUT we don't live in that world any more do we Joe? I'll help you because I understand why you dance down the middle, takes one to know one 😉  friend.

I can't really defend Arians, I like him a lot more than many Bucs fans but I think he's a pretty good modern HC who let most things go in the name of winning a Lombardi Trophy. The TB Bucs have been a rental team to win Championships, Gruden was 1 and then done, perhaps Arians follows the same path...HOWEVER

-This is Brady and I will not relinquish the MIC just yet, Arians is flawed but obviously he can get out of his own way(See Dungy for proof) and I hold out hope they can come up with a week to week scheme to 1-up their competition, that's what I think Tom Brady brings to the table, his brain is beyond what we have ever measured most NFL QBs and you can disagree, I'll respect you even if you don't post back at me.

Great thread,

TY JB!

Are you a Bucs fan or a Dolphin fan? I've never noticed you claiming the Bucs until this year. Not saying your haven't, just I've never noticed it.

'92-'00 in Tampa(USF-Fletcher/Fowler, then St Pete) met my wife there before I took off for other spots, originally from the M-I-A, was there when Wyche announced 5 dash 2or 5-2 and then Tampa collapsed and hired Tony Dungy,  fell in love with the man, he was different but also had a similar sideline demeanor to a man I knew well, Don Shula.

I stood tall with Tony when his son decided to end his life and Dungy was on his way to coaching Indy, I have always said if Tony knocks on my door and one day says "MoP, I need you" that I would drop everything and that's how strongly I feel about the man, I can't describe it any clearer.

Sorry if I got all too serious there but it's from the heart, I love the man and believe in him, in way I just don't believe in most. I might doubt his personal beliefs and disciplines but by gawd he sure does't.

I voted "no big deal" because I'm old school and that's what it was to me.

That said, in today's society I can't see how he doesn't face some serious public outcry and repercussions.

Admittedly this was almost 40 years ago but, in high school (practice mind you,) if I missed an assignment at LB my coach would grab my face mask and shake my head around like I was a rag doll....not lightly.....violently, while screaming at me to play smarter. Didn't stop me from making mistakes though.

Our ST coach doubled as our in-house evaluator of injuries during practice. I'd been told I simply had a foot sprain and it would mend itself. Two weeks later my foot had swollen so bad after a Sat. practice that my Mom got worried and took me to the hospital. I'd had a broken foot for two weeks and kept taping it up & practicing on it. When I came back to school on Mon. with a cast on my foot I got nasty comments from teammates and coaches alike that I was some kind of kitty cat.

None of this is germaine to this topic/discussion one bit......just brought back memories I felt like sharing.

20%-25%-25%-28%

50/50 of those who don't have much of a problem with it vs the ones who feel it has no place on the field.

I think a lot of the folks who are put off by it have been influenced mightily by the way the NFL has approached personal foul penalties for roughing and a variety of other things. People are conditioned by the NFL to almost flinch whenever a big hit happens waiting for the flag to drop, that spills over into other discussions or topics similar such as this one.

Cheers!

Voted "not good" but I'm also kinda wondering why the 69 year old coach with the achilles injury is the first and only one to realize this is a penalty. Carlton Davis takes his helmet off? This is a veteran team no?

The Davis incident prior to this probably had something to do with it.  If the coaches were on these guys to be smarter and then Adams was doing something this dumb it's understandable Arians just lost it for a moment.

No big deal one way or the other.

If it were MLB or NBA without helmets it would be different. It is loud out there, and he might have saved a 15 yard penalty for his team.
