Bryant Johnson sleeper WR of 2008? (1 Viewer)

Looks like Bryant Johnson could be the sleeper WR of 2008. He's the #1 WR in Martz's pass happy offense. I know its only week 2, but he's currently on pace for 1008 yards and 8TDs. I could reastically see him put up 1200 yards and 6-8 TDs. He missed all pre-season so he should be able to even improve on his numbers once he gets more comfortable with the system. Not bad for a guy taken in the late, late rounds.

I know Royal and Desean Jackson are the hot guys now, but I see Desean's numbers going down once Reggie Brown and Kevin Curtis return, and Royal's numbers will be be good, but will decline with Marshall returning.

Your thoughts?

Going into the pre-season B.Johnson was on everybody's sleeper list. Between SF's QB conundrum and Johnson missing all of the 1st three pre-season games, I think everybody started to shy away from him. So, Johnson slide much further in the later drafts this year. Man, he was great value.

I took B.Johnson in the 14th round of my draft and then grabbed E.Royal in the 15th. I missed out on De.Jackson. Although he was on my radar, he went higher than I was willing to take him. Looking back, I wished I had taken him instead of T.Ginn....but what can you do. Reggie Brown is not a good WR. So I expect Jackson to continue having a solid season this year. I see him and Curtis complementing each other well down the line.

So, I think all 3 of these guys are in the running and have an excellent chance to continue their success and have a great year.

Johnson = 12 targets

Bruce = 8 targets

Battle = 8 targets

Not a bad start but I'm not quite ready to anoint Johnson as the Sleeper WR Of 2008. Plenty of guys on the WW with just as much potential.

I think the 49ers played a very poor Seattle team ATM and play another poor Detroit Lion team this weekend. San Francisco players look like they can be counted on (besides Vernon Davis) to put up some decent numbers against those kind of teams. They are not a proven offense against average defenses or better, so I'd hesitate to start in those situations.

D. Jax put up 100 plus yards versus Dallas, to me that means a little more than doing it against Seattle who gave up 38 points week 1 as well.

#1 WR in a Martz offense is not necessarily a great thing. In Detroit under Martz, CJII and Roy basically blended in with Furrey and McDonald. This made it tough week to week who was the go to guy. If Calvin or Roy were not featured as the go to receiver, I don't see B. Johnson being a major sleeper or a dependable play each week.

Last year really was the anomaly for the Martz offense. Roy missed 4 games with injury. CJ may have only missed 1 game on paper, but he was playing injured all year and mostly as a decoy. That's why McDonald and Furrey had so much production for the offense last year. Take another look at the 2006 season to see how the system usually works. Both Roy and Furrey stayed healthy all year and put up some nice stats as the primary WRs.R.Williams --- 82 Rec --- 1310 Yds --- 7 TDsM.Furrey --- 98 Rec --- 1086 Yds --- 6 TDsIf JT can be close to an average NFL QB, then B.Johnson has the talent to put up numbers in this range this year.

Bryant Johnson isn't running up the seam with Calvin and Roy flanking him on either side and Gore >>>> K. Jones. Apples and oranges here. Johnson will continue getting his looks.

CJ was hurt all year and Roy is a career underachiever.

Any homers chiming in? Never really followed BJ in Arizona.
Big play kinda guy. A home run hitter with loads of talent.Inconsistent yes but not so much opportunity with Boldin and Fitz in front of him and not so consistent QB play.He also wasn't so precise at route running but appears to be much improved in that area thus far this year.

Different WR situation entirely.

I grabbed Johnson as my 5th WR after TO,Bodlin,Jennings in the first 4 rounds and Walter later.

I offered Johnson for Norwood since I have Turner, the owner laughed at me.

Johnson will put up the numbers that you would look for in a matchup WR3 or a bye week fill in.

Do you think Johnson has more potential that David Patten?

Reggie Brown, Bryant Johnson. Right now and going forward. Can only choose one.

I take Johnson without blinking. He is undervalued, no doubt about it.

I'm not sure I'd label Johnson as the No. 1 WR in San Francisco. I think what happened to Bruce in Week 1 was a fluke and he'll be seeing a healthy number of targets each week as long as he can stay healthy. He knows the offense, he's a proven veteran and you know Martz trusts him. I think you'll see Bruce be the No. 1 WR for the Niners although it could be a case of Bruce being 1A and Johnson being 1B and the two both seeing plenty of targets each week.
