BTTF 2017 : Scoobus wins World Series (2 Viewers)

I really like this pick. I almost took him at the last turn, would have taken him with my next two. Figured he wouldn't make it back.
I had a few arms out there and thought I'd punt until next go around.  The list, which I really had a tough time getting into order, included Odorizzi,  Estrada, Eickhoff and two others.

Realized that any semblance of a "####, I need more than 2 pitchers in this thing!" pitching run would render my chances of getting anything worth a mid rotation slot pretty slim. Might lose out on a guy I was targeting as a bat, but still enough positions to fill and talent spread around on offense that I could hopefully make up that shortfall elsewhere (including picking a player nearly as good a few rounds later at the same position).

Pretty much committing to Carpenter seeing time at 2nd or 3rd here, but I'm buying assets.

Chris Davis, 1B, BAL

Bounceback year.  Had I not gone 1B already with Eddie E, he'd have been in the discussion at this point. We think of 1B as so deep, and yes, it's the "easiest" position to fill, but in terms of getting a really good bat, especially with power, and not killing yourself someplace defensively, the options are not nearly as deep as appears at first glance.

Whereas in historical SIMs I almost always wait and punt 1B, my experience taking one early here has been good so far.

Calculated risk, but both players you drafted are definitely quality guys. No doubt about their ability to hit. If I had to guess, I would say Carpenter gets some time at 2B and 3B also.

Agreed on the lack of depth at 1B.  Seems especially so this year.

That said, we DID take a 1B early for a reason.... so it's not like we didn't put our money where our mouths are.

This is one thing I like about drafting at the turn... can just sorta let the mayhem happen and see who the hell is left in 50 picks.

I've looked at lists and depth charts now! Hopefully didn't completely screw myself winging the first 5 rounds. I think I'm fine

6.09 Adam Wainwright

Have read several articles saying 2016 wasn't a fluke and he's just not as good anymore. Come on bounce-back!

There he is...he was the other guy I was looking at, but whenever I draft him in fantasy (which seems like every year), he ends up sucking.  Maybe he just sucks.
It looks like Gio's 2016 FIP and HR/9 rates were outliers for him. He may not get back to his 2012-14 numbers, but if he can knock 15 points off his OAV and get his HR allowed rates back down closer to his career rate, he'll be OK as a 4th WIS starter.
