Alright let's rip the band-aid off and see how bad it looks.
Offense:
C: Woooooooooof. Went with 2 starters because you can never be too careful. That's ok they both got hurt anyways. And they both suck! Between
Robinson Chirinos (.192/.274/.471),
James McCann (.204/.254/.345), and
Chris Giminez (.202/.238/.273) I already have about 450 PA's, so at least I don't
have to trade for a catcher, but my goodness do they suck. The one small bright side is 18 hrs in 450 PA's isn't too shabby from the C spot.
1B: Prince Fielder (.212/.292/.334) is a fat tub of monkey ####. Again it was between him and Ortiz when I selected him, at least I don't have to follow him anymore the rest of the season.
Joe Mauer (.268/.370/.390) is my big bopper there now, the power hitting threat every team desires at first base.
Tyler White (.204/.288/.365) after an incredible first 2 weeks of the season has pretty much died. Hopefully I can trade for any sort of a bat to help out here.
2B: After a horrendous start to the season,
Howie Kendrick (.269/.333/.385) has rebounded enough to be decently playable. He's also been playing a lot of OF and 3B, so hopefully he plays 2B enough to get a rating.
Johnny Giavotella (.272/.297/.394) provides potential trade bait or backup PA's.
SS: Jose Iglesias (.257/.308/.344) has been fairly terrible, but with no backup SS going into this at least he's managed to stay healthy. I guess I'll mention
Jorge Polanco (.275/.348/.550) here as well. Less than 50 PA's so far, Twins will probably give him an extended look the rest of the season, although seems like he'll play all over the diamond, not exclusively SS.
3B: Before injury,
Matt Carpenter (.298/.420/.568) definitely pulling his weight as a 3rd round pick, hopefully he comes back soon and keeps hitting.
Adonis Garcia (.269/.307/.397) provides some depth.
OF: Maybe there is something to that Coors Field after all, eh
Corey Dickerson (.235/.282/.458)? Debated between
Gregory Polanco (.287/.361/.506) and
Stephen Piscotty (.285/.356/.475) when I settled on Polanco, was able to get Piscotty a whole round later so that worked out well. Other slugs include
Delino DeShields (.225/.303/.326),
Mike Aviles (.212/.259/.269), and
Chris Coghlan (.156/.253/.276)
Overall, a pretty mediocre/bad line-up. I don't have to trade for any position which I guess is good, and I might have extra IF PA's to trade away, but the lack of HR power is pretty gross and I'm going to have so many partial seasons to juggle.
Pitching:
In order of how I drafted them...
Jose Fernandez (1.05 WHIP/ 2.08 DICE/ 125.2 IP) has returned to form fairly well,
really wish he wasn't on an innings limit or whatever, but I knew that when I drafted him.
Carlos Carrasco (1.025/3.88/91.2 IP) has been pretty good, although it still makes me laugh that he missed more than a month injuring himself covering first base. HR/9 of 1.28 is a high, get used to that theme on this staff.
Carlos Rodon (1.54/4.38/98.1 IP) I was more wrong about him than maybe anyone else I've ever drafted in these things. I watch him pitch and I just don't get it. 4th round pick, yuck. HR/9 of 1.56
Drew Smyly (1.32/4.27/ 117.1) Another swing and a miss, at least he's healthy I guess. HR/9 of 1.69
Hyun-Jin Ryu (

) Good job, good effort. I'll include it anyways even though he made only 1 start, HR/9 of 1.93
Chase Anderson (1.44/4.98/100 IP) Look at all those innings! HR/9 of 1.62
Colby Lewis (1.02/4.12/98 IP) Currently hurt but a very pleasant surprise, hopefully when he comes back he doesn't ruin his numbers. HR/9 of 1.19
Aaron Blair (1.75/5.86/50 IP) Can't complain because he got the opportunity early, he just blew it. HR/9 of 1.42
Brandon McCarthy (0.84/2.51/26.1 IP) Man would that really help if he could pitch the entire second half at anywhere close to this level, not holding my breath.
So yeah, not looking great. Can I re-pick my stadium for somewhere that's like -4 in every direction for homers?
Bullpen:
Looking decent, I don't really like to project too much since one bad appearance can ruin an entire season, but potentially a place of strength where I could make some trades. Best so far are
Kelvin Herrera (0.86/1.65),
Dan Otero (1.04/2.18) and
Kevin Siegrist (0.99/4.14)
Overall it's about as mediocre as I had been expecting; didn't realized my starters were giving up that many homers so that was a fun surprise. I don't appear to be short on PA's or IP anywhere so maybe trades can help save me a little, but I'm not sure the people I can afford to trade will send me back anything super helpful. Still a lot of season left, we'll see what happens.
